  • Patent number: 7336937
Abstract: A method of compensating a direct-current offset coupled into a receiving path of a receiver, the receiving path having at least one gain factor adjustable by a gain control, which method first determines an amount of a direct-current offset present at a selected end point in the receiving path. A compensation quantity is set accordingly. In case of a forthcoming adjustment of the at least one gain factor by the gain control, the compensation quantity is then scaled with a scaling factor to prevent a direct-current step at the selected end point due to this forthcoming adjustment. The final compensation quantity is fed at a selected summing node into the receiving path. The invention is also directed to a corresponding receiver, an electronic device comprising such a receiver, a hardware component for such a receiver and to a corresponding software program product.

  • Patent number: 7330732
Abstract: Techniques for scheduling measurements for cells in multiple (e.g., GSM and W-CDMA) wireless communication systems are described. GSM neighbor cells are categorized based on a number of states. The states are prioritized in a manner to achieve good performance. The GSM neighbor cells are thus assigned different priorities depending on their states. W-CDMA neighbor cells are prioritized relative to the states for GSM cells. All W-CDMA neighbor cells can be assigned the same state, given the same priority, and considered as “one” W-CDMA cell in the scheduling. A cell in the GSM or W-CDMA system is selected based on the priorities of the neighbor cells, and the selected cell is scheduled for measurement in the next available frame. The highest-ranking GSM or W-CDMA cell for each idle frame is thus granted use of that idle frame for measurement.

  • Patent number: 7328262
Abstract: In a mobile network a packet interface (103) is monitored by a tap (160-163) in a non-intrusive manner. Captured transaction data is uploaded to a probe (155-158) linked to one or more taps. The probe acts as a slave to a server (159), activating and terminating data capture. A coordinator (601) of the probe (155) manages data capture and buffering according to the server. The server (150) filters the data according to a subscriber registry (203) and loads data until there are complete protocol descriptions. These provide real time subscriber-centered QoS metrics.

  • Patent number: 7324789
Abstract: A frequency synthesizer for use in a transceiver generates a relatively high reference frequency with fine frequency resolution and low in-band phase noise by using a digital processor to generate a digital reference signal at a finely-tuned reference frequency. A Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) converts the digital reference signal to an analog reference signal, and a low pass filter filters the analog reference signal to produce a filtered analog reference signal. The frequency synthesizer further includes a phase locked loop for up-converting the filtered analog reference signal from an IF signal to an RF signal.

  • Patent number: 7321754
Abstract: The radio-frequency signal frequency conversion device generates intermediate complex signals (IF) for a correlation stage of a low power RF receiver. In order to do this, the device includes a first selective pass-band filter for filtering radio-frequency signals picked up by an antenna. A frequency synthesizer generates first and second high frequency signals, wherein the frequency of the first signals is higher than the frequency of the second signals. This synthesizer receives reference signals from an oscillator unit. A first mixer unit mixes the radio-frequency signals with the first signals in order to generate frequency-converted signals. A second pass-band filter filters the signals from the first mixer unit, and provides signals to a second mixer unit to mix them with the second high frequency signals. Finally, shaping means for the signals provided by the second mixer unit generate the intermediate signals.

  • Patent number: 7315745
Abstract: The invention provides a method of estimating the time offsets between signals transmitted by plural transmitters of a communications network and received by a receiver attached to a terminal. In the method a section of a representation of the signals from the plural transmitters received by the receiver at the terminal (a “terminal section”) is created as are a first section of a representation of the signal transmitted by a first of said transmitters and a second section of a representation of the signal transmitted by a second of said transmitters. Each of the first and second sections overlaps in time with the terminal section. Using the first section, the second section and a set of signal parameters, including initial estimates of the time offsets between the first section and the terminal section and between the second section and the terminal section, a model of a section of a representation of the composite signal received by the receiver from the first and second transmitters is created.

  • Patent number: 7313375
Abstract: Methods and systems for seamlessly broadcasting data to a user moving among a plurality of broadcast coverage areas. A first signal containing desired data may be received by a receiving device at a user location, wherein the first signal is broadcast from a first transmitting station associated with a first broadcast coverage. Thereafter, the receiving device (e.g., a radio or in-vehicle television) can be automatically instructed to search for and tune to a second transmitting station associated with a second broadcast coverage area broadcasting a second signal containing the desired data if the first signal fades at the user location, thereby permitting the user to seamlessly receive data as the user moves among a plurality of broadcast coverage areas.

  • Patent number: 7308238
Abstract: An apparatus and method for performing automatic frequency control of a mobile communication terminal detects a current peak position value from a downlink pilot signal and then calculates a difference value (dev) between the current peak position and a previous peak position value. A zero-run value is then calculated by counting the number of successive 0s in the difference value (dev), and an AFC voltage from controlling an oscillator is obtained based on the difference value. This difference value is then used to control a frequency of a transmitter in the terminal. Accordingly, an accurate oscillation frequency can be generated without being affected by noise existing in the communication environment and thus communication performance can be enhanced.
