  • Patent number: 4161124
Abstract: Apparatus for the control by a cable of a speed change device comprising an articulated parallelogram including a fixed upper support, a laterally movable lower support and two parallel levers pivotably connected to the supports. A chain guide is secured to the lower support and is laterally movable therewith for derailing a chain on pinions of a free wheel cluster. The parallelogram is subject to an elastic member which deforms the parallelogram in one direction, the cable acting on the parallelogram to deform it in the other direction against the action of the elastic member. The sheath of the cable is secured to the upper support of the parallelogram and the cable itself is secured to the lower support of the parallelogram such that application of external force to the cable produces deformation of the parallelogram.

  • Patent number: 4158967
Abstract: A power branching spur gear system has two main wheels which come into contact with one another through more than three intermediate wheels. Each intermediate wheel meshes with both main wheels, and every two intermediate wheels are disposed at a bearing element which is linked to a linking point which is non-coincident with the bearings of the intermediate wheels. The linking points of the bearing elements are directly or indirectly connected to one another by coupling members. The linking point of at least one bearing element is positioned in a scissor-shaped area, which is formed by the two resultant bearing forces of the two intermediate wheels which are disposed on the bearing element and in which the resultant of both bearing forces lies. The intermediate wheels exercise equidirectional torques on each main wheel.

  • Patent number: 4152944
Abstract: A piston type energy conversion machine such as an internal combustion engine in which the thrust of piston reciprocation is converted to nutational movement of a tube-like member journalled in a support which is driven in rotation about a primary engine axis. Also supported for rotation on the primary engine axis is a biconical element to which torque is transmitted by friction from the nutating member. The pistons operate in a plane which undergoes a swashing movement on a point at the intersection of the primary axis with the axis of nutation. Also the connection of the pistons to the nutating member is by way of linkage including swivel links which function to absorb the thrust of each piston power stroke.

  • Patent number: 4152945
Abstract: A power transmitting mechanism for converting the thrust of reciprocating pistons to a rotary output shaft at speeds independent of the frequency of piston reciprocation. Power developed by expanding gases in accordance with well-known thermal cycles, such as the Stirling cycle, is transmitted by pistons to a bed plate capable of swashing motion about a point on the axis of the output shaft. The shaft is provided with a pair of oppositely convergent or biconical friction surfaces engageable by annular tracks carried with the bed plate in orbit which may be characterized as nutational. Axial adjustment of the annular tracks toward and away from the point on the output shaft varies the output shaft speed independently of input speed or piston frequency.

  • Patent number: 4152946
Abstract: A transmission device includes a first element having rolling surfaces of revolution on a first axis, a second element having surfaces of revolution on a second axis intersecting the first axis at an acute angle equal to or slightly larger than an apex half-angle of each of a pair of generally conical surfaces on one of the elements. The rolling surfaces of both elements are symmetrically disposed axially on each side of the point of intersection. The second element is mounted such that its axis may perform conical movement about the axis of the other element. The second element may be allowed a degree of freedom to pivot about the point of intersection of the axes and in the plane containing the axes, so that during operation of the device, a gyroscopic couple of the body causes it to pivot so that the cone surfaces and their respective rolling surfaces come into rolling engagement at points one each side of the point of intersection of the axes.

  • Patent number: 4150589
Abstract: In a transport roller rack for automatic film developing machines, power gears supply the main flow of power to the rack, and cluster drive gears are coaxially rotated by the power gears to tap off fractions of the main power and supply these fractions to clusters of gears which in turn drive transport rollers.Coaxial gear units are used at the power tap off point. Each unit has a plurality of axially displaced portions, one constituting the power gear, another the cluster drive gear. The unit is supported by a shaft for axial rotation, but the construction of the unit is such that the shaft need not be relied upon to transmit the coaxial rotation from power gear to cluster drive gear.Such a coaxial gear unit greatly simplifies the construction and also leads to smoother operation with less risk of damage to the film.

  • Patent number: RE30018
Abstract: An improved sprocket configuration for use in a track-type vehicle drive. The tooth configuration and tooth pocket configuration accommodate packing of the pocket and permit limited displacement of the chain without excessive wear of the chain bushings. The pocket configuration is relatively deep so as to permit a preselected amount of packing in the pocket root to minimize the chain bushing displacement. The improved tooth configuration provides a rounded topping surface avoiding bushing wear as may occur with sharp corner tooth configurations of the prior art.

  • Patent number: RE30120
Abstract: A gear mounting arrangement for lobe type air pumps. Angular adjustment between a gear (a form of hub) and its (lobe carrying) shaft permits a desired angular phase adjustment between the intermeshing lobes. The gear moves axially on its shaft and is held in place by positive screw or nut on one face and retained on the other face by a belleville spring. Rotation of the nut causes axial displacement of the gear and consequent phase adjustment.
