  • Patent number: 9814823
Abstract: A recovery device assembly comprises an actuator element and a mechanically radially expandable and contractible recovery device operably connected to the actuator element is provided. The recovery device has proximal and distal toroidal balloon blocking elements and a central portion between the blocking elements. The recovery device is at least partially placeable in a first, radially collapsed configuration and in a second, radially expanded configuration by manipulation of the actuator element. When in the second, radially expanded configuration, the proximal and distal blocking elements have radial dimensions greater than the radial dimension of the central portion thereby at least partially defining a collection chamber at the central portion. Also provided are methods of isolating an organ and recovering blood from an organ that use the recovery device assembly provided.

  • Patent number: 9789292
Abstract: Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder marked by progressive memory and cognitive impairments that eventually result in death. Currently, there are no effective therapies or cures that slow or halt the relentless progression of Alzheimer's disease. The invention teaches that the underlying mechanism responsible for the initiation of Alzheimer's disease is due to the insufficient flow of cerebrospinal fluid through apertures in the cribriform plate. The cribriform plate is a flat bony structure at the top of the nasal cavity directly below the olfactory bulbs. Naturally occurring apertures in the cribriform plate provide conduits for cranial nerve 1 fibers passing from the olfactory epithelium below, into the olfactory bulb above. Cerebrospinal fluid in the extracellular compartment above seeps through these apertures and into the nasal submucosa below, where it is removed by lymphatic vessels.

Abstract: Implants and methods for treating ocular disorders are provided. One method involves introducing an implant into an anterior chamber of an eye. The implant is implanted into eye tissue adjacent the anterior chamber such that a proximal end of the implant resides in the anterior chamber following implantation. A therapeutic agent is eluted from the implant into the eye. Desirably, the release of the therapeutic agent from the implant is controlled. The controlled release of the therapeutic agent can be at a chosen rate and/or for a selected duration which can be episodic or periodic. The therapeutic agent can be an antiproliferative agent, an anti-inflammatory drug, or a compound for treating glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

  • Patent number: 9789284
Abstract: A urinary catheter is configured to avoid sliding contact between the outer surface of a catheter tube and the urethra wall. A flexible tubular membrane extends through the catheter tube and has a proximal end secured to an anchor outside the urethra as the catheter tube moves into the urethra, pulling the membrane through the proximal end of the tube so it inverts and covers the outer surface of the tube. Alternatively, a catheter tube of flexible material has a proximal end secured to the anchor, and the catheter tube turns inside out as it is inserted, forming a double wall reflected tube with a proximal reflection point. The sterile interior surface of the membrane or tube becomes the external surface facing the urethral wall as the catheter is deployed, and this external surface maintains static contact with the urethral wall as the catheter is advanced or retracted.

  • Patent number: 9744316
Abstract: A medical spraying device and method, for irrigating a wound, having a liquid reservoir for a medical irrigation liquid or a connection for such a liquid reservoir and an arrangement for applying pressure to the medical irrigation liquid, such that the irrigation liquid is pushable through a nozzle by the pressure acting on the irrigation liquid in order to produce a spray cone. The nozzle has a plurality of openings, which are arranged at an angle to one another in such a way that the irrigation liquid jets exiting from the openings, at a such flow rate and angle, meet in an atomization space and/or a discharge opening of the nozzle; thus, a spray cone is produced from the atomized irrigation liquid.
