    Abstract: A hose roller device used to roll up collapsed hose, such as fire hose. The hose roller device includes a two pronged fork on which the collapsed hose is placed and rolled up into a uniform roll that can be easily removed from the two prongs for storage or transportation in the rolled condition. The two pronged fork is attached to one end of an axle that is rotatably held in a transverse bearing hole through an upright member. A crank handle is connected to the other end of the axle to roll up the hose. The member is held upright by a support system that fixes the vertical position. The support system allows the member to rotate about this longitudinal vertical centerline. The member extends above the two pronged fork and includes a fitting to which a tiller is connected. The tiller may be placed into either of two positions to accommodate a right or left handed person. The tiller is used steer hose roller device.

In another alternative embodiment, each insert is provided with a force-fit cylinder freely slidable relative to the insert and adapted to form a force-fit with the hollow cylindrical core, enabling the web supply to be rotated relative to the inserts, while an operator holds the inserts during a dispensing and wrapping operation.

    Abstract: In a double supporting roller winding machine for winding material webs, especially paper or board webs, onto core tubes, a core tube insertion device is provided for inserting individual ones of the core tubes in a roller bed. The core tube insertion device is mounted on pivot levers, and has an insertion trough with an angular cross-section for the core tubes. The insertion trough is mounted pivotally on the levers and can be moved into a position in which one of the trough sides extends at least approximately horizontally. Thus, this one side can be used advantageously as a step from which to work and to enable the roller bed to be reached more easily.

    Abstract: When the winding operation is started, the leading edge portion of the sheet is sucked and held by one of a pair of horizontally disposed rollers and the extension of the leading edge portion of the sheet beyond the one roller is controlled by rotation of said one roller. An adhesive with a suitable viscosity is sprayed against a core from the position below the core. The core and said one roller are rotated so that the sheet is clamped between the one roller and the portion of the core which is applied with the adhesive and consequently is bonded to the core. Thereafter the pair of rollers are rotated at a low speed so that the slack of the sheet is eliminated. Next the sheet is wound around the core at a high speed. After the winding operation, an adhesive with a suitable viscosity is sprayed against a roll of paper from below so that the sheet is bonded by the weight of the roll of paper itself. Thereafter the sheet is cut off and the roll of paper is pushed out.

A pair of spaced rolls (40) of leader material and a roll (42) of connecting material are supported on the base on one side of the working surface and have adjacent edges overlapping to be drawn over the tape and replace a segment that is previously removed. The mechanism cuts the wide tape into narrow strips and alternate strips are directed across specially designed guide rollers (100) toward respective mandrels of the mandrel assembly. The cutter mechanism includes a grooved roller (60) and a cutter blade support bar (68) that is designed for quick change of cutter blades.

A roll of web tape many times wider than the width of an individual cassette tape is progressively formed into a plurality of narrow width composite web tapes consisting of a series of longitudinally spaced-apart tapes, of predetermined length, that have adjacent end portions attached to one another by means of an adhesive web tape connecting splice-tape. The leader material of a preleadered cassette is attached to each end of one of the tapes in a composite tape in the following manner. The cassette tape leader is severed into two separate smaller leader lengths with an end of each such smaller length remaining attached to one of two intenal cassette spools.

    Abstract: A coiler comprises a rotatably mounted coiler shaft, adapted to be driven, and a hollow reel, non-rotatably connected to the coiler shaft and containing a mechanism for expanding the coil. The expanding mechanism is adapted to be actuated by an actuator and comprises radially adjustable pressure-applying members, adapted to protrude through apertures in the reel at its periphery. To ensure that the coiler will be operable even under high loads, the pressure-applying members are spaced along the reel and mounted on two diamatically expanding opposite members, operatively connected to the actuating mechanism. The expanding members are pivoted on diametrically opposite axes which extend parallel to the axis of the coiler shaft.

    Abstract: A web feed mechanism for stepwise or continuously feeding a web, such as a printing medium of a printer, or the like, from a roll of web. In the web feed mechanism, slackness, if any, can be absorbed by applying a drag force to the outermost winding of the web roll through a radially inwardly biased sliding member that slides tangentially of the web roll either in the forward direction, in which the web is to be let off from the web roll, or in the backward direction, in which the web is to be taken up onto the web roll. The sliding member is spring biased to slide backward. Upon the web being let off the web roll, the drag slides the sliding member forward, charges its spring and thereby keeps the web under tension. Upon discontinuance of web unwinding, slackness in the web is absorbed by the spring biasing the sliding member to drag the web roll to roll backward.

    Abstract: A cable tension control device for an electrically powered mine vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle is of the type having an electric trailing cable wound on a cable reel mounted on the vehicle. The cable reel has a motor for rotating the reel in the direction for taking up the cable as the vehicle moves toward a power source and for preventing freespooling of the reel as said cable is unwound as the vehicle moves away from the power source. The device includes a sensor for measuring the amount of electric cable on the reel and utilizes this sensed amount of cable for controlling the drive torque of the motor in direct proportion to the amount of cable sensed on the reel. The same sensed amount of cable is used to control the braking torque developed by the motor when the motor is being driven by the reel as when cable is being pulled off during movement of the vehicle away from the power source.

    Abstract: A band storing machine for temporarily storing band-like material in a continuously operating process line, for example by the feeding of sheet metal in band-like form to tube welding machines. The machine has two concentrically arranged roller baskets or cages for winding up the band; withdrawal of the band is effected via a lateral displacement guide which is disposed in the inner basket. The problem of buckling and otherwise adversely affecting the path of the band is to be avoided, and the band is to be treated as gently as possible. This can be done, and the band can therefore be transported in the storing machine merely by pulling, by rotatably disposing the outer roller basket about the inner roller basket, and by initially guiding the band from the uncoiling location to the processing machine in a so-called by-pass between and through the rollers transverse to the circular disk formed by the roller baskets and about the lateral displacement guide.

    Abstract: A package of tape is formed with flanged portions built up at the ends and a central helical traverse portion. The flanged portions are effectively formed by a plurality of separate spiral windings each of which is interlocked with each other and the central traverse portion. The central portion is formed from a plurality of helical traverses with reversal positions slightly inside the inner edge of the flanged portions. Either the central traverse portion or the flanged portions is built up first to form a step following which the other is built up to meet the step. The step cannot be so high that the tape cannot traverse the step. The extreme ends of the package is thus formed by the stable spiral windings while edge drop-off from the ends of the traverse portion is limited to height of the last helical traverse.

    Abstract: A winding apparatus for forming laps has two winding rollers and on each side thereof a carrier arm for receiving a lap bobbin. Each carrier arm is pivotably connected on one end with a sliding guide and on the other end with a pivoting mechanism. A hinge joint and a pivot pin provide these pivotal connections. The pivot mechanism is pivotally supported in side walls of the apparatus by shafts. The pivotal movement is accomplished by a pressure air cyclinder. During pivoting of the pivoting mechanism about the shafts the carrier arms are shifted in a predetermined direction. In FIG. 1, the lowermost position of the therein depicted carrier arm is shown in which the lap bobbin rests on the winding rollers. Through rotation of the winding rollers the lap bobbin rotated and takes up a web delivered from calender rollers for the formation of a lap. The build-up of the lap causes lifting of the carrier arms in such predetermined direction.

    Abstract: Apparatus for continuously supplying a web of sheet material wound on rolls includes a conveyor which carries a roll from a loading station to a splicing station and then to an active or running station. While a running web is being drawn off a roll at the active station, a standby roll is loaded on the conveyor at the loading station and then it is advanced to the splicing station. A stationary core brake located at the active station is responsive to the tension of the running web and applies a drag to the core on which the web of the active roll is wound to maintain the tension at a selected level. When the web on the active roll is nearly exhausted, an endless belt in frictional engagement with the standby roll is driven by a motor and accelerates the roll until the peripheral speed of the latter is equal to about 99 percent of the linear speed of the running web and then the belt is driven from the running web so that the two speeds match.
