  • Patent number: 9262426
Abstract: It is an objective of the present invention to provide a solution to automatically remove the redundancy among the user's files, and to efficiently use the memory area of the server without placing an unreasonable cost on a service provider and on a user. In order to attain the above objective, a file storage apparatus, which replaces a bit sequence, which matches a bit sequence correlated with a code and managed, with said code, thereby performing compression and storage of a file correlated with the user identification information and inputted, comprising a distribution unit for management cost, which performs distribution of management cost with respect to each user identification information, is provided. Here, the management cost for code and/or bit sequence corresponds to cost necessary for storage or maintenance of the code and/or bit sequence. Examples of the cost include cost for size of required storage area, and cost for required operation of CPU.

  • Patent number: 9262553
Abstract: Recommendation systems are widely used in Internet applications. In current recommendation systems, users only play a passive role and have limited control over the recommendation generation process. As a result, there is often considerable mismatch between the recommendations made by these systems and the actual user interests, which are fine-grained and constantly evolving. With a user-powered distributed recommendation architecture, individual users can flexibly define fine-grained communities of interest in a declarative fashion and obtain recommendations accurately tailored to their interests by aggregating opinions of users in such communities. By combining a progressive sampling technique with data perturbation methods, the recommendation system is both scalable and privacy-preserving.

  • Patent number: 9244928
Abstract: A system and method creates a directory snapshot. The method includes retrieving a group of filenames from a directory, splitting the group of filenames into a first plurality of filenames and a second plurality of filenames, and storing the first plurality of filenames into a first temporary snapshot file and storing the second plurality of filenames into a second temporary snapshot file. The filenames in the first and second temporary snapshot files are sorted based on the same heuristic and a sorted linked list that includes a filename listed first in the first temporary snapshot file and a filename listed first in the second temporary snapshot file is created. A first filename from the sorted linked list is saved to a result directory snapshot file.

  • Patent number: 9223795
Abstract: A user-level file system interfacing with at least one user application for a transparent view with a file system module implemented in a kernel subsystem and a user storage client module implemented in a user-level file system to access and synchronize at least a resource stored within a storage media device, and translating a request, from the user application, to access the resource to the user-level file system for the transparent view. The user-level storage client module receives the request to access the resource from the user application for the transparent view. A storage prediction service retrieves the request to access the resource from the user-level storage client module for the transparent view. The network storage service receives the request to access the resource from the user-level storage client module. The user application is provided with access to the transparent view of requested resource stored within the storage media device.

  • Patent number: 9218366
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for generating a query image model. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a set of images determined to be responsive to a query and ranked according to a first order; determining a positive image signature from a first subset of images selected from images ranked highest in the first order, determining a negative image signature from a second subset of images selected from images ranked lowest in the first order, determining a query image signature for the query based on a difference of the positive image signature and the negative image signature; and applying the query image signature to each image in the set of images to rank the images according to a second order that is different from the first order.

  • Patent number: 9213979
Abstract: An array attribute configurator configures a set of received values based upon a predetermined set of unique value fields of an array. Array attribute configurator determines if duplicates exist within the set of received values. Array attribute configurator determines if a unique value field lacks a corresponding value within the set of received values. • Patent number: 9213718
Abstract: Techniques to manage files and other stored objects are disclosed. An identification is received of a plurality of files associated with a synchronization set. An identification of a plurality of endpoints associated with the synchronization set is received. Synchronization is maintained across the endpoints with respect to at least a subset of the files included in the plurality of files. In some embodiments, maintaining synchronization across the endpoints includes materializing each file, and updates thereto, at each endpoint at which the file is stored in a manner required by that endpoint while maintaining an awareness of which files or other objects as stored at each endpoint at which files are stored correspond to which files or other objects as stored at other endpoints at which files are stored.

  • Patent number: 9195778
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are herein disclosed for prefetching node data of a linked data structure into a processor's cache so as to decrease linked data structure traversal latency. In particular, as the linked data structure is created or modified, forward and reverse prefetch nodes are identified and links identifying locations of these nodes are written to nodes that will be traversed N nodes prior to the prefetch nodes. Once the linked data structure has been created, traversals of the structure use the prefetch links to prefetch node data into the processor cache, so that when traversal reaches a node, that node's data is read from processor cache rather than from memory.

  • Patent number: 9177050
Abstract: The present invention makes legal research more efficient by selecting clusters in response to the behavior of a user (e.g., a legal professional such as a paralegal, lawyer, or judge). The clusters, which are formed prior to the user accessing a legal document (and thus, providing user behavior to a system), are identified to the based upon a set of metadata associated with the legal document. At least two clusters are identified and a signal associated therewith is transmitted to the user. Each cluster is associated with a unique legal topic. Further, each cluster may comprise primary and/or secondary authority.

  • Patent number: 9177110
Abstract: Provided herein are various systems and methods for improved report interaction and generation. A computing system receives selection of an exam for display on a display device, either from a user or as automatically determined by a computing device. The computing system may then determine an exam characteristic associated with the exam, such as an exam type. A data structure storing associations between exam characteristics and respective report packages, each of the report packages comprising a parent report and one or more child reports, may be accessed in order to select a report package associated with the determined exam characteristic. The child reports of the selected report package, which are configured to receive input from a user of the computing system that is usable in automatically generating content of the parent report of the selected report package, may be selectively displayed on the one or more displays.

  • Patent number: 9171068
Abstract: A personalized content recommendation system includes a client interface device configured to monitor a user's information data stream. A collaborative filter remote from the client interface device generates automated predictions about the interests of the user. A database server stores personal behavioral profiles and user's preferences based on a plurality of monitored past behaviors and an output of the collaborative user personal interest inference engine. A programmed personal content recommendation server filters items in an incoming information stream with the personal behavioral profile and identifies only those items of the incoming information stream that substantially matches the personal behavioral profile. The identified personally relevant content is then recommended to the user following some priority that may consider the similarity between the personal interest matches, the context of the user information consumption behaviors that may be shown by the user's content consumption mode.

  • Patent number: 9164995
Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein provide a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for managing usage policies for data recorded with a digital life recorder. A usage profile sensor determines whether a broadcast of a usage profile is detected. A usage profile sensor receives the broadcast of the usage profile in response to a first determination that the broadcast of the usage profile is detected, wherein the usage profile comprises a usage policy. A usage profile processor determines whether the usage profile is currently being tracked. A usage profile processor records a start date, a start time, and usage profile information into a tracking table in response to a second determination that the usage profile is not currently being tracked.

  • Patent number: 9165124
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for identifying unique devices and/or unique users of a web-based system within constraints of an external application. In some embodiments the process comprises receiving request information from a client device at an application server, using such information to form a device fingerprint, and attempting to match the newly-formed fingerprint with exactly one fingerprint stored in a database of previously-formed fingerprints. Some embodiments utilize a two-stage Locality-Sensitive Hash query technique. The client device fingerprint may be converted into a series of LSH values which may be used to find a matching fingerprint. A first stage may query input LSH values against LSH values in a data store, and a second stage may query LSH values temporarily held in volatile memory, thereby minimizing network traffic and reducing a total process time.
