  • Patent number: 8874787
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for routing a service request to an appropriate web service. A first service request is routed from a first web service to a second web service. Routing factors associated with the second web service are monitored. A determination is made as to whether the routing factors indicate that the second web service is no longer appropriate for handling service requests. If the routing factors indicate that the first web service is no longer appropriate for handling service requests, then a second service request is routed from the first web service to a third web service. The first web service, the second web service, and the third web service are included in a composite service.

  • Patent number: 8675070
Abstract: In a driving support device and method, images of a vicinity of a vehicle are captured and recorded. Movement information relating to movement of the vehicle is acquired and a movement status of the vehicle based on the acquired movement information is determined. Based on (i) the determined movement status and (ii) a parameter associated with the determined movement status, the recorded image data is composited to create a composite image of an area including a position of the vehicle. The composite image is displayed on a display unit. The parameter is calibrated based on (a) a position of a reference marker included in the composite image created according to the movement status and (b) a predicted position of the reference marker superimposed and displayed on the composite image according to the movement status.

  • Patent number: 8659658
Abstract: In a motion capture system having a depth camera, a physical interaction zone of a user is defined based on a size of the user and other factors. The zone is a volume in which the user performs hand gestures to provide inputs to an application. The shape and location of the zone can be customized for the user. The zone is anchored to the user so that the gestures can be performed from any location in the field of view. Also, the zone is kept between the user and the depth camera even as the user rotates his or her body so that the user is not facing the camera. A display provides feedback based on a mapping from a coordinate system of the zone to a coordinate system of the display. The user can move a cursor on the display or control an avatar.

  • Patent number: 8595326
Abstract: Methods and systems for scrolling through content of media. An example method performed on a cell phone receives an index of segments from a server over a cellular network and a public data network. The received segment is presented based on the received index of segments. A request for a media file associated with the presented segment is generated and sent, if a user selection signal is received. The index of segments includes information that associates a preselected segment of a full media file with the full media file. A request for a segment associated with the received index of segments to the server is generated and sent and the requested segment is received from the server based on the request before presenting. The requested media file is received and presented after the server processes the request for the media file.

  • Patent number: 8566456
Abstract: System and methods for a connection proxy server are described. According to an example method described herein, a connection proxy server stores subscription, product tables as well as other downloads that are provided to a client terminal during initialization stage as well as later during a trading session. Upon detecting that a connection between the client terminal and a gateway is lost, the connection proxy maintains a communication session created for the client terminal at the gateway and receives data intended for the client terminal. If the connection is re-established between the client terminal and the gateway during a predetermined period of time, the connection proxy provides the stored data to the client terminal thus avoiding a surge in processing resources at the gateway due to the necessary downloads.

  • Patent number: 8560721
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for receiving playable media stored in a server by user equipment having a motion sensor and playing the media according to the motion of the user equipment. The method includes the steps of (a) designating a part of the media as a first receiving area by the server and transmitting it to the user equipment; (b) changing a playback area, in which the media are played, according to the motion of the user equipment and playing a part of the media; and (c) requesting by the user equipment that the server provide a second receiving area, which is a part of the media including the playback area, when the playback area is outside the first receiving area of the media, receiving the second receiving area, and playing the media. When media stored in the server are to be played initially, it is unnecessary to download the entire media, so that the user equipment can play the media more efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8489733
Abstract: A method and system for automatic ESB deployment at the level of individual services is described. One method deploys a first instance of an enterprise service bus (ESB) including multiple services. An ESB load balancer tracks the performance of the first ESB instance and determines a first service falls below a threshold. The ESB load balancer deploys a second ESB instance including a first duplicate service for the first service and a second duplicate service for a second service of the first ESB instance. The ESB load balancer determines that the first service falls below the threshold a second time and deploys a third ESB instance including a third duplicate service for the first service and a fourth duplicate service for a third service of the first ESB instance without user intervention.

  • Patent number: 8484351
Abstract: A method of accessing data includes storing a table that includes a plurality of tablets corresponding to distinct non-overlapping table portions. Respective pluralities of tablet access objects and application objects are stored in a plurality of servers. A distinct application object and distinct tablet are associated with each tablet access object. Each application object corresponds to a distinct instantiation of an application associated with the table. The tablet access objects and associated application objects are redistributed among the servers in accordance with a first load-balancing criterion. A first request directed to a respective tablet is received from a client. In response, the tablet access object associated with the respective tablet is used to perform a data access operation on the respective tablet, and the application object associated with the respective tablet is used to perform an additional computational operation to produce a result to be returned to the client.

  • Patent number: 8433746
Abstract: A method and system for executing an additional action by an ESB server in response to detecting a predefined state of the ESB is described. One method identifies an object (e.g., message or event) at an ESB server of the computing system targeted for a first service deployed at the ESB server. The method further detects a predefined state of the ESB server, and when detected, the method executes an additional action by the ESB server without modifying a set of actions of the first service. Another method detects the predefined state by matching the object against a pointcut of an AOP aspect defined in the ESB server. The method executes the additional action by executing an advice of the aspect to perform the additional action when the object matches the pointcut.

  • Patent number: 8433786
Abstract: Systems and methods provide a selective instrumentation strategy for monitoring the progress of transactions in a distributed computing system. The monitoring of the transactive processing of jobs is considered through a collection of computer operating stages in a distributed system, using limited information. The monitoring is performed by observing log records (or footprints) produced during each stage of processing in the system. The footprints lack unique transaction identifiers resulting in uncertainties in monitoring transaction instances. The processing stages are selective instrumented to reduce monitoring uncertainty under the given constraints such as limited budget for instrumentation cost.

  • Patent number: 8429302
Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to an architecture that can actively regulate associated gateways in connection with lossless application-level compression. In particular, the architecture can monitor a flow of messages that enter and/or traverse a gateway in order to determine a bandwidth utilization of an associated network due to the messages. The architecture can also monitor the aggregate messages load for the associated network due to all gateways. In particular, the architecture can regulate lossless application-level compression at that gateway or all of the gateways in the set as a function of the bandwidth utilization and/or the aggregate message load. Accordingly, compression features can be activated or deactivated based upon a utilization threshold parameter, and gateways can be regulated uniformly or independently from one another.

  • Patent number: 8341262
Abstract: A method for determining the offload type for the processing of the protocol of a network connection is disclosed. An offload policy manager in a server node determines the offload type on the basis of a number of factors, including the application type of the network connection, the traffic priority of the network connection, and the port of the network connection. After the offload policy manager selects the offload type of the network connection, the offload policy manager identifies the offload type to the offload engine, which processes the protocol of the network connection according to the offload type selected by the offload policy manager. The offload policy manager is able to access a number of application-specific tables. The offload policy manager selects an offload type by cross-referencing on an application-specific table the traffic priority of the network connection against the port of the network connection.
