  • Patent number: 6978985
Abstract: A non-sectional locking buffer device. The device utilizes a screw ascending and descending principle as a buffering function, wherein ball bearings or outer screw grooves are configured on a central shaft of the buffer device to operate in coordination with inner screw grooves or ball bearings configured on an inner wall of a buffer chamber. The inner and outer screw mechanisms rely on slippage of the ball bearings in the screw grooves, to reduce a jolting force from repositioning or returning of an upright support, thereby reducing buffer malfunction.

  • Patent number: 6976563
Abstract: A brake caliper with an integral parking brake. The brake caliper includes a housing having a bore with tapered walls, a piston having a rod mounted within the bore, a wedge element positioned between the rod and the tapered walls and displaceable to a locking position and a release position, a resilient element positioned to displace the wedge element to the release position, and a locking element for selectively displacing the wedge element to the locking position. When the locking element is momentarily actuated while a hydraulic pressure is present, the wedge element is urged to the locking position, thereby holding the brake caliper in a braking position when the hydraulic pressure is removed and then the locking element is de-actuated. A hydraulic pressure sufficient to cause the resilient element to urge the wedge element to the release position is effective to release the caliper.

  • Patent number: 6971485
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a disc brake that retains a clamping force that holds first and second friction members into engagement with a rotor to sustain a brake application. The locking mechanism is characterized by a first threaded member integrally attached to a piston located in a bore. The piston is moved within the bore to establish a clamping force and is prevented from rotating with respect to the bore by means of anti rotation members associated with the piston. A second threaded member rotates on the first threaded member with movement of the piston. A third member is moved into contact with the second threaded member to prevent rotation of the second threaded member and retaining clamping force on the friction members to affect a parking brake application.

  • Patent number: 6971278
Abstract: A tension applying device including a housing in which are mounted a primary shaft, a main shaft, a pinion shaft, and a load-member sheave shaft. A ratchet handle is associated with the primary shaft for imparting rotation thereto when pumped by a user. Rotation of the primary shaft causes rotation of the main shaft which, in turn, is imparted to the pinion shaft and to a load-member sheave mounted on the load-chain sheave shaft. Rotation of the load-member sheave then applies tension to the load member which, in turn, is connected to a desired application. The tension applying device further includes a plurality of drive mechanisms for achieving different mechanical advantages between the ratchet handle and the load-member sheave, thereby allowing a desired input force to attain a desired output force. Further, the load on the tension member may be used for automatically switching between the plurality of drive mechanisms and for a load limit lock-up.

  • Patent number: 6968928
Abstract: An air disk brake caliper housing is disclosed. The caliper housing includes a open rear end portion that opens into a passageway for receiving an actuator/adjuster mechanism. To minimize the outer contour of the caliper housing to alleviate packaging concerns with respect to a vehicle axle, the passageway is offset above an operating position for the actuator/adjuster mechanism. As the actuator/adjuster mechanism is inserted into the offset passageway, it passes a retaining step formed in the interior of the passageway to provide sufficient running clearance for gears of the actuator/adjuster mechanism. Once passing the retaining step, the actuator/adjuster mechanism may be dropped down to the appropriate operating height and installed in the operating position within the caliper.

  • Patent number: 6964323
Abstract: A quick mount disk brake rotor is configured for use with a splined hub of a bicycle or the like. The rotor includes a splined rotor carrier that slides over the splined hub and a rub area positioned outwardly from the rotor carrier. The rotor carrier also includes slots which are alignable with a receptacle such as a groove on the hub. A retainer clip is biased through the slots in the rotor carrier and into the groove in the hub to axially lock the rotor to the hub. The clip includes a pair of outwardly extending ends that can be squeezed together to drive the clip out of the groove on the hub against the inherent bias of the clip to enable the rotor to be removed from the hub in a quick and simple manner. The result is a biased retaining member is disengageable from the brake rotor carrier so as to move brake rotor carrier from frictional contact with the retained brake hub by tool-free compression of the biased retaining member.

  • Patent number: 6959795
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a compact and lightweight hybrid pneumatic-magnetic isolator-actuator capable of large force, substantial stroke and bandwidth actuation with near frictionless operation and vibration isolation with very low break frequency. Pneumatic and magnetic forces are applied to a single carriage comprised primarily of a coaxially arranged air piston and coil. The carriage is driven relative to a frame or housing including an internally mounted cylindrical piston sleeve and magnetic actuator body. A combination of air bearings and air bearing piston construction provide for frictionless motion of the carriage relative to the frame. The pneumatic piston provides the actuation force for both static loads and low frequency dynamic loads. An integrally mounted sensor and control unit determine the pressure error resulting at the pneumatic piston.

  • Patent number: 6957874
Abstract: Each of target braking forces for front and rear wheels of a vehicle is calculated based on an amount of braking performed by a driver and a predetermined braking force distribution ratio between the front wheels and the rear wheels. Each of the target regenerative braking forces for the front and rear wheels, respectively, is calculated based on a corresponding one of the target braking forces such that a maximum regeneration efficiency is obtained. If the driver has performed an abrupt braking operation, if the driver has performed a braking operation when the vehicle runs at a high deceleration, or if the vehicle runs at a high lateral speed, it is quite likely that anti-skid control will be started afterwards. Therefore, the target regenerative braking forces are gradually reduced, and target frictional braking forces are gradually increased. If anti-skid control is started, the target regenerative braking forces are set as 0.

  • Patent number: 6955406
Abstract: The invented apparatus is designed for use with a tow vehicle and trailer combination. The apparatus comprises a controller, a vacuum supply sensor, and a sensor unit used to measure the barometric pressure and/or elevation of the current location of the tow vehicle/trailer combination. Using information from the sensor unit, the controller determines a vacuum pump activation level and/or deactivation level appropriate for the ambient pressure in which the apparatus is operating. By monitoring the signal supplied by the vacuum supply sensor and by operating a vacuum pump switch signal, the controller maintains a supply of vacuum between the activation and deactivation levels. In this manner, the controller can compensate for changes in local conditions so as to operate the vacuum pump in an efficient manner while maintaining an adequate supply of vacuum for operation of the trailer brake system.

Abstract: Disclosed are a combination type damper and a washing machine having the same. The combination type damper comprises: a cylinder provided with a receiving space having a certain depth at one side thereof; a rod relative-movably inserted into the receiving space of the cylinder; and a composite damping means for generating a damping force by an electromagnetic force when a displacement of a relative movement of the cylinder and the rod is less than a preset length, and for generating a frictional damping force when the displacement of the relative movement is more than the preset length. Transient state vibration and steady state vibration generated from a tub assembly during the entire processes for washing laundry are prevented from being transmitted to a cabinet, thereby minimizing vibration noise towards outside while using the washing machine.
