Patent number: 6345849Abstract: A safety door stopper for use in trip, including a wedge stopper block and a coupler member. The coupler member is used to fix the wedge stopper block under a lower edge of the door board. A bottom face of the wedge stopper block is disposed with an unsmooth face. When the wedge stopper block is fixed under the lower edge of the door board, the unsmooth face is able to enlarge the frictional coefficient between the door board and the ground and enlarge the frictional force. Therefore, the resistance against the door board is increased to make it difficult to push open the door board and ensure safety in trip.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1999Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Inventor: Si-Kang Yen

Patent number: 6336249Abstract: An improved plastic elongated hinge having an open spine and being adapted to replace a conventional piano hinge at a significantly reduced cost. The plastic elongated hinge includes at least two spaced apart pivotally pinned connections. The open spine permits the elongated hinge to be produced using substantially less plastic material. The hinge is preferably injection molded, and the pivotal connections are short in order to reduce the throw of the mold pins and thus maximize the production cycle time. An entirely integral snappedly engaging pivot connection is provided when more than two pivot connections are required. The entirely integral snap engagement connections require no moveable mold pins. This further reduces the costs of the hinge. Preferably, the elongated hinge is solvent bonded to plastic hinged members.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1999Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Inventor: Roger Plumley

Patent number: 6334616Abstract: A hard disk drive spindle motor has a hub, a drive shaft, and a bearing therebetween. The spindle motor also has a ferrofluid seal to prevent any incidental oil emissions from the bearing from entering the drive. A ferrofluid cap is mounted on the axial end of the spindle motor for sealing the ferrofluid seal. The cap is a flat ring and has an elastomeric pad around its outer edge. The pad seats in a recess in the bore of the hub. The cap does not touch the shaft as it rotates with the hub about the shaft. Any excess ferrofluid from the ferrofluid seal is forced radially outward away from the shaft by centrifugal force. The cap contains the excess ferrofluid within the spindle motor and prevents it from entering other areas of the disk drive.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1999Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: M. Patent number: 6328357Abstract: An hand adjustable trim actuator for use with an exit device is provided. The trim actuator uses an actuator shaft with attached actuator gear to engage one of two sets of gear teeth on a linearly moveable retractor. Actuation of the door lever rotates a spindle which has two tabs, one of which pushes the retractor. The engagement of the retractor gear teeth with the actuator gear causes the actuator gear and actuator shaft to rotate which in turn operates the exit device. The actuator shaft and actuator gear are moveably linearly which permits the actuator gear to be disengaged from the retractor gear teeth. Once disengaged, the actuator gear can be rotated and moved into engagement with the other of the two sets of gear teeth, thereby changing the handing of the trim actuator.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Monarch Hardware and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: James Wiley Overbey, Kun Hong Kim

Patent number: 6260238Abstract: The primary structural parts of the handle are two extruded telescopic tubes. A longitudinal rib on the smaller, inner tube slides in a groove in the rib on the larger, outer tube, preventing relative motion between the tubes. A box footplate is pivotally attached on a shaft to the free end of the outer tube with the axis of the shaft intersecting the long axis of the tubes and perpendicular to it. Rotation of the footplate is transferred by bevel gearing to a rod at the centers of the tubes which extends through a collet mechanism installed inside the smaller tube near its overlapped end. A lever and related linkage are attached to a fitting installed at the free end of the inner tube. The linkage connects the lever to the collect mechanism. Operation of the lever causes the collet to clamp onto the rod, thus locking the box footplate angular motion and the length of the handle. An auxiliary mechanism may be provided for locking the handle at any of a series of lengths.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventor: Donald Mark MacMillan
