  • Patent number: 5828163
Abstract: A field emitter device includes a column conductor, an insulator, and a resistor structure for advantageously limiting current in a field emitter array. A wide column conductor is deposited on an insulating substrate. An insulator is laid over the column conductor. A high resistance layer is placed on the insulator and is physically isolated from the column conductor. The high resistance material may be chromium oxide or 10%-50% wt % Cr+SiO. A group of microtip electron emitters is placed over the high resistance layer. A low resistance strap interconnects the column conductor with the high resistance layer to connect in an electrical series circuit the column conductor, the high resistance layer, and the group of electron emitters. One or more layers of insulator and a gate electrode, all with cavities for the electron emitters, are laid over the high resistance material. One layer of insulator is selected from a group of materials including SiC, SiO, and Si.sub.3 N.sub.4.

  • Patent number: 5818154
Abstract: The lamp according to the invention has a metal holder part 2 with a rece in which the pinch seal 10 of the lamp bulb 1 is clampingly fixed with the aid of a plurality of support tabs 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b, 23a, 23b. In order to reduce the danger of damage to the pinch seal 10 when the lamp is being mounted on its base, the pinch seal 10 is tapered is graduated fashion toward the base, and all the support tabs 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b, 23a, 23b that act upon the pinch seal 10 are oriented toward the broad sides of the pinch seal 10, which is substantially rectangular in cross section, while the narrow sides of the pinch seal 10 are located in the holder part 2 without touching it. The narrow sides of the pinch seal (10) are retained in the holder (2) spaced from the holder. Guide ribs (50a, 50b) are formed on the pinch seal (10) positioned off-center, and laterally relatively staggered.

  • Patent number: 5813753
Abstract: A light emitting device for use in lighting and/or display applications includes a UV/blue LED located in a depression having reflecting sidewalls, a light transmitting material surrounding the LED and filling the depression, and a phosphor in the form of particles either dispersed in the light transmitting material or adhered to the surface of the LED. The sidewalls reflect UV as well as visible light, thus enhancing the efficiency of the device. Optical filters located on the top of the LED and/or the bottom of a UV absorbing glass plate covering the depression further enhance efficiency and/or spectral characteristics of the emitted light.
