Abstract: A data processing system accesses a group of events to identify a group of types of events and aggregates at least some of the events into a group of items. Each of the events is aggregated by binding another event to an event identified as a particular type of event based on a correspondence between the event and the particular type of event and binding additional information to the event identified as the particular type of event based on a relationship between the additional information and the particular type of event. The data processing system also rendezvous one of the items with an event.

Abstract: A distributed file system and method distributes file system objects across multiple self-contained volumes, where each volume is owned by a unique file system node. Logical links are used to reference a file system object between volumes. Each file system node includes a relocation directory in which is maintained hard links to locally-stored file system objects that are referenced from another file system node using logical links. Various file system operations that involve multiple volumes are performed without having to place a write lock on more than one volume at a time. Various caching schemes allow the various file system nodes to cache file system object data and metadata.

Abstract: A computer-implemented data processing system and method for storing a data set at a plurality of data centers. The data centers and hosts within the data centers may, for example, be organized according to a multi-tiered ring arrangement. A hashing arrangement may be used to implement the ring arrangement to select the data centers and hosts where the writing and reading of the data sets occurs, version histories may also be written and read at the hosts and may be used to evaluate causal relationships between the data sets after the reading occurs.

Abstract: A system and method for hosting entity-specific photo-sharing websites for entity-specific image capture devices provides software for the entity-specific image capture devices that causes the image capture devices to transmit entity ID information when the image capture devices transmit images over the Internet. The system and method further provide an online photosharing service capable of hosting the entity-specific photo-sharing websites for each of the entities, such that when the image capture devices connect to photo-sharing service, the photo-sharing service uses the entity ID received from the image capture devices to automatically associate the image with the photo-sharing websites of the identified entity.

Abstract: A Global Information Bus (GIB) architecture is an infrastructure for deploying and managing individual services on a global scale. The GIB is a series of services that may change from one execution to another, finding and collaborating with other services dynamically. This series of collaborating services may start to resemble an ecosystem, and GIB architecture may maintain the interconnectedness and stability of this ecosystem as it continually changes. To that end, the GIB includes an enterprise repository service for storing related information related to services running in the enterprise where the enterprise consists of a group of network domains.

Abstract: A method for clustering data or objects in an array, each element of the array corresponding to a similarity between the objects implemented within a computer linked with a database containing the data or objects The method includes determining a number of classes of objects based on values of the relationships computed between an object and a previously established class, for each class found, determining the value of each of the relationships between a class and the other classes, and merging certain classes, and taking each object of each class one by one, determining the value of the relationship of each object with each of the classes other than the class into which the object was initially classed, if the value of the relationship is greater then transferring the object to the new class, this is continued until all the values of the relationships are negative.

Abstract: An apparatus for generating a collection profile of a collection of different media data items has a feature extractor for extracting at least two different features describing a content of a media data item for a plurality of media data items of the collection, and a profile creator for creating the collection profile by combining the extracted features or weighted extracted features so that the collection profile represents a quantitative fingerprint of a content of the media data collection. This collection profile or music DNA can be used for transmitting information, which is based on this collection profile, to the entity itself or to a remote entity.

Abstract: A method for lifecycle management for file systems has several steps. At least one storage container adapted to support a file system is allocated. The at least one storage container and the file system are associated with a service class. The file system is created in the storage container. The service class is used during lifecycle actions performed on the file system. Lifecycle actions may comprise, e.g., creating, extending, replicating, moving, or migrating a file system. The service class for the file system may also be maintained for a lifecycle of the file system.

Abstract: Improvements are provided in a service registry in SOA and in service propagation, query, and service selection and routing methods during service invocation. The service registry is connected with a local service domain and a remote service registry and comprises: a local service information manager for registering local services in the local service domain; and a local service information repository connected with the local service information manager for storing service metadata of the local services. The service registry further comprises: a remote service information manager connected with the local service information manager and the remote service registry for receiving a remote service index from the remote service registry; and a remote service information repository connected to the remote service information manager for storing the remote service index received from the remote service registry.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for searching for a media content related to a selected media service. A selected media service, as selected by a user operable indicator, has related metadata that is used as the basis of a search query. Once the search query is formulated, the query is submitted to a search engine that returns search results of media content related to the selected media service. Media content then may be selected from the returned search results for rendering in a rendering environment.

Abstract: A relational database having a plurality of records is organized by using a processing arrangement to perform a clustering operation on the records so as to create a number of clusters. At least one of the clusters is characterized by a selected metadata parameter. The clustering operation is performed to optimize a calculated value of a selected precision factor for the selected metadata parameter. The selected metadata parameter is selected to optimize execution of a database query and the value of the selected precision factor is related to efficiency of execution of the database query.

Abstract: A system protects database operations performed on a shared resource. The system may chunk memory to form a set of memory chunks which have memory blocks, at least some of the memory blocks including database objects. The system may configure at least one binary search tree using the memory chunks as nodes and buffer a set of pointers corresponding to the memory blocks. The system may further validate the buffered pointers and dereference validated buffered pointers.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture that may be used to create and share annotations for query components, such as query conditions, in an effort to share domain knowledge, are provided. The annotations may be created by users with particular domain knowledge and may contain information useful to other users when building queries including the annotated query components. A annotation may indicate a particular format or syntax for an associated query component. In some cases, a replacement to the associated query component is suggested.

Abstract: User actions responsive to a plurality of web pages are tracked and included in records in a data store. A conversion score is calculated for each traffic source of a plurality of traffic sources, the conversion score based at least in part on the tracked user actions. A traffic source quality score is calculated for each of the plurality of traffic sources, and the plurality of traffic sources are ranked based at least in part on the traffic source quality scores. The traffic sources are allocated to sets based at least in part on the ranking.

Abstract: A system includes a data structure having a Direct Table (DT), Patricia-Trees, Pointers and high speed storage systems such as Contents Address Memory (CAM). The DT has a plurality of entries with each one coupled to a Patricia Tree having multiple nodes coupled to leaves. The number of Nodes, termed a threshold, that can be traversed to obtain information in the leaves is limited to a predetermined value. Once the threshold is reached a pointer indicates the address of the CAM and the address of the leaves is stored in the CAM. By using the structure and method the latency associated with tree search is significantly reduced.

Abstract: The present invention provides selective migration in a storage network in accordance with a policy. The policy can include rules that establish which objects are migrated from a source file server to a destination file server based on file attributes (e.g., file type, file size, last access time, frequency of access). For example, large multimedia files that consume I/O bandwidth on expensive or critical file servers, without adding much value to enterprise productivity, can be migrated to a commodity or less critical file server.

Abstract: In a content management system having a plurality of resource managers storing objects, a replica resource manager stores a replica of an object stored in one of the plurality of resource managers. A library server contains a resource manager table that defines the plurality of resource managers and includes availability information for each of those resource managers. When a client requests an object, the library server identifies a primary resource manager storing the object. The library server also determines a replica resource manager storing a replica of the object and returns information identifying that replica resource manager if the resource manager table indicates that the primary resource manager is unavailable and indicates that the replica resource manager is online and available. The client then retrieves the replica object without incurring a timeout delay waiting for the primary resource manager to respond to an access request.
