Abstract: A device for allocating a channel by using wireless access in a vehicular environment in which an onboard unit is provided in a vehicle and at least one roadside unit is provided, receives a service announcement message from at least one roadside unit, uses the service announcement message to generate an available service table, determines whether the available service table has roadside unit entries for transmitting the service announcement message, and if so, compares average RSSI provided by the roadside units to select a roadside unit to access, selects a channel that corresponds to the service provider ID with the highest priority from among the service provided by the selected roadside unit, and assigns the selected channel as a service channel to exchange information with the roadside unit.

  • Patent number: 8483762
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention facilitate providing wireless links with longer link ranges and/or better suppression of interference than can be provided by the integrated antennas of a typical wireless network node. While, in some cases, it is possible to install intermediate wireless network nodes to hop through long expanses between distant wireless network nodes, it is desirable for distantly spaced wireless network nodes to reach one another through a single transit link (i.e. one hop). This approach is preferable because a single transit link is capable of higher data rates and better interference suppression than multi-hop transit links. The present invention provides methods and apparatus for enhancing the link range achievable by typical wireless network nodes so that distantly spaced wireless network nodes are able to communicate with one another using only a single-transit link.

  • Patent number: 8477695
Abstract: In a wireless communication system including a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a Node-B, an uplink (UL) scheduling request is transmitted by the WTRU to the Node-B when the WTRU has buffered (user) data to transmit to the Node-B, but needs to have a scheduling grant for UL data transmission. The WTRU determines whether to transmit to the Node-B a short-version UL scheduling request or a full-version UL scheduling request, whereby the short-version UL scheduling request uses less channel resources than the full-version UL scheduling request by omitting information pertaining to WTRU status parameters. The short-version UL scheduling request is a one-bit indicator or a multi-bit indicator that indicates an amount of scheduling grants or resources requested. The full-version UL scheduling request includes at least one of a WTRU buffer status and a WTRU link budget.

  • Patent number: 8472974
Abstract: A location continuity service having a location continuity application server (“LCAS”) that utilizes location data generated by multiple networks to determine the location of a mobile device is disclosed. The LCAS specifies a suitable reconciliation process that identifies two or more location estimation techniques that are implemented by different access networks and indicates how to utilize the location data produced by the identified estimation techniques. The LCAS interacts with various access networks identified by the reconciliation process in order to receive location data (e.g., positioning measurements and/or estimated locations) generated by the access networks and analyzes the received data to determine the location of a mobile device and provide the determined location to a location-based service. In some examples, an LCAS also provides location continuity when a mobile device moves between a home communications system and a visited communications system.
