A novel method for producing water-repellent articles is provided, which comprises dissolving a chlorosilyl group-containing compound and a fluoroalkyl group-containing silane compound in a solvent containing an alcohol and/or water content to obtain a solution having the chloro group in said chlorosilyl group-containing compound substituted by an alkoxyl group or hydroxyl group, applying said solution to the surface of a substrate, and then drying the coated material to form a water-repellent film.
