  • Patent number: 7341436
Abstract: An open face cooling system for a motorized, impeller-type, submersible pump operated in a host fluid ladened with solids, comprising an inlet in the pump housing close to the impeller and away from the axis of the pump into which fluid is forced by pump pressure, the inlet arranged so the impeller vanes sweep its face with a shearing motion that reduces the size of any solids present there until they are small enough to enter the inlet with the fluid flow, the materials ladened fluid flowing hence through a coolant conduit, out of a tangentially configured nozzle into a rotational flow around the inside of an open face toroidal section, and hence inward through an adjoined, inward extending distribution section configured co-axially around and above the motor, to be discharged upon the motor.

  • Patent number: 7331767
Abstract: For stepless capacity control of a reciprocating piston compressor, an unloader (2) arranged on a suction valve (1) keeps open said suction valve (1) over a thereby controllable portion of the working cycle of the compressor by means of an unloading piston (4) biased by gas pressure via a control valve (3). The gas pressure biasing the unloading piston (4) is always above the gas pressure required to overcome the maximum possible reverse flow force, whereby a controllable partial discharge of the unloading cylinder (6) is performed in each phase of the working cycle up to the closing of the suction valve (1) by means of the control valve (3), which is designed to switch rapidly. The theoretical discharge time of the entire discharging volume for the partial discharge is preferably maximal nearly equal or even less than twice the duration of the working cycle.

  • Patent number: 7316542
Abstract: A control system governs fluid level in a well system including a pump positioned downhole for pumping fluid upward through a tubular, a rod positioned within the tubular for driving the pump, a prime mover, and a pumpjack to transmit power from the prime mover to the rod to reciprocate the rod. A sensor senses a position of the rod or a member of the pumpjack and outputting signals in response thereto. A controller receives the signals and computes a plurality of time intervals, each time interval being between signals and occurring during at least a portion of an upstroke of the rod. The controller selectively decreases power output from the prime mover in response to an increase in the computed time interval.

  • Patent number: 7314349
Abstract: A control system controls a progressive cavity pump driven by a rod. The rod is powered by a prime mover, such as a variable speed drive. A proximity sensor outputs signals responsive to rotational positioning of the rod. A controller receives the signals and computes a time interval between selected signals corresponding to a selected number of rod rotations. The controller references a data set, compares the computed time interval with the data set, and selectively increases, decreases, or cycles power to the prime mover in response thereto, thereby controlling the fluid level within the well.

  • Patent number: 7300258
Abstract: An electromagnetic pump has a supply section and a magnetic force pumping section wherein flow of a electrically conductive material through the supply section is opposite to the flow of the material in the magnetic force pumping section in some examples. Multiple coils surround the supply and magnetic force pumping sections. Current flowing through the multiple coils creates magnetic fields that magnetically couple with a magnetic material disposed between the supply and magnetic force pumping sections so that the fields penetrate the electrically conductive material in the magnetic force pumping section substantially perpendicular to the desired flow direction which maximizes the magnitudes of magnetic forces applied to the electrically conductive material.

  • Patent number: 7290385
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for increasing lifetimes of components in a gas turbine engine. Ordinarily, components are replaced after they experience a certain number of thermal cycles, or a certain operating temperature limit is exceeded. Under one form of the invention, the components are not replaced at that time, but are subjected to increased cooling, which decreases the highest temperature reached in subsequent thermal cycles. Also, many components are replaced when acceleration of an engine falls below a target. In one form of the invention, the components are not replaced, but (1) fuel schedule is increased and (2) compressor stall margin also increased, in order to attain the target acceleration.
