Abstract: A process and system are provided for introducing a blend of chopped and dispersed fibers on an automated production line amenable for inclusion in molding compositions as a blended fiber mat for structural applications. The blend of fibers are simultaneously supplied to an automated cutting machine illustratively including a rotary blade chopper disposed above a vortex supporting chamber. The blend of chopped fibers and binder form a chopped mat. The chopped mat has a veil mat placed on either side, and is consolidated with the veil mat using heated rollers maintained at the softening temperature of thermoplastic binder, with consolidated mats being amenable to being stored in rolls or as flat sheets. A charge pattern is made using the consolidated mat, and the charge pattern can be compression molded in a mold maintained at a temperature lower than the melting point of the thermoplastic fibers.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for joining pipes includes a plate for melting mating surfaces of the pipes to be joined. Additionally, the apparatus utilizes a vacuum in order to push the first and second pipes together in lieu of hand or mechanical pressure which may be inconsistent. Additionally, the vacuum allows the pipes to be joined to settle on each other in order to create a pressure about a periphery of the end of the pipe being joined to the other pipe. The consistent pressure creates a very strong joint between the first and second pipes.

Abstract: A method for taping a wafer is disclosed. A wafer taping device comprising a wafer stage is provided. A wafer is mounted and secured on the wafer stage. A tape is delivered along a first direction over the wafer. The tape is forced into adhesion with a surface of the wafer in a non-contact manner. The tape is cut along a perimeter of the wafer.
Abstract: A method for molding a composite pressure vessel liner to secure a boss to the liner is described. The method comprises providing a moldable liner having an end section with a neck and a port. A boss is positioned around the neck of the liner and the liner is heated and pressure is applied to mold the liner to form to the shape of the boss. The angle of the molded liner secures the boss in place around the liner and it is able to withstand high pressures. A tool for molding the liner and a method for using the tool is also described. The tool comprises a tool body and a pipe having external threads. The tool body abuts the liner and the boss. Winding the pipe exerts pressure on the liner, which when heated, forces the liner to mold to the shape of the boss.

Abstract: A soft-substrate carpet made from recycled yarns includes a carpet fiber layer and a recycled fiber layer in a top-to-bottom order, wherein the carpet fiber layer comprises carpet fibers and a first non-woven scrim, the carpet fibers being tufted on the first non-woven scrim, and the recycled fiber layer comprises recycled fibers and a second non-woven scrim, the recycled fibers being tufted on the second non-woven scrim; the carpet fiber layer and the recycled fiber layer are permanently bonded.
Abstract: A sheet holding unit of a resin sheet fixing apparatus includes: a Peltier element that has an upper surface parallel to a sheet holding surface of a sheet holding table and near the sheet holding surface and a lower surface far from the sheet holding surface; a direct current (DC) power source that supplies the Peltier element with a DC; and a switch that switches a direction of the DC supplied to the Peltier element. By causing a current to flow in the Peltier element in a first direction, a resin sheet is softened and welded to a wafer, and by switching the switch to cause a current to flow in the Peltier element in a second direction, the resin sheet held on the sheet holding surface is cured and fixed to a surface on one side of the wafer.
Abstract: A laminate sheet is formed from a lamination system that includes a sheet supply, a material supply, and a laminator. The laminator causes a sheet from the sheet supply to be laminated to a sheet from the material supply to establish the laminate sheet. The laminate sheet includes film strips and a web coupled to the film strips.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatuses for relofting nonwoven substrates. During the relofting process, a substrate is directed to advance in a first direction such that a length of the substrate is in a facing relationship with a radiation source. The advancing substrate is relofted by irradiating the length of the substrate with infrared radiation from the infrared radiation source. The substrate comprises a first caliper upstream of the radiation source and the substrate comprises a second caliper downstream of the radiation source greater than the first caliper. The substrate may also be redirected around an axis to advance the substrate in a second direction, wherein the second direction is different than the first direction. The axis may be selectively movable between a first position and a second position to selectively subject the substrate to infrared radiation and remove the substrate from the infrared radiation.
