  • Patent number: 9655525
Abstract: Described herein are user-wearable devices that include an optical sensor, and methods for use therewith. In certain embodiments, an optical sensor of a user-wearable device (e.g., a wrist-worn device) is used to detect blue light that is incident on the optical sensor and to produce a blue light detection signal indicative thereof, and thus, indicative of the response of the user's intrinsically photosensitive Retinal Ganglion Cells (ipRGCs). In dependence on the blue light detection signal, there is a determination of a metric indicative of an amount of blue light detected by the optical sensor. The metric is compared to a corresponding threshold, and a user notification is triggered in dependence on results of the comparing, wherein the user notification informs a person wearing the user-wearable device to adjust their exposure to light.

  • Patent number: 9652747
Abstract: An embodiment allows for context based alerts/alarms. For example, an embodiment may automatically determine that a user is in a meeting with another person based on a meeting entry in the user's calendar. In such a situation the embodiment may divert an incoming phone call, which would ordinarily result in a ring tone, to go directly to voice mail based on the calendar entry. In an embodiment the alert may be delayed until the meeting concludes. Unlike conventional systems, various embodiments do not require a user to change notification rules, manually flip a hardware switch, or create a “Do Not Disturb” setting that allows just a single “silent” time during the day. An embodiment allows data in a calendar to automatically drive the behavior of how a notification panel operates. Other embodiments are described herein.

  • Patent number: 9646480
Abstract: Various embodiments of hazard detectors are presented. A hazard sensor may be present that detects the presence of a hazardous condition. A light sensor may be present that detects an ambient brightness level. A motion sensor may be present that detects motion of a user. A light may be present that is capable of outputting light. A processing system may receive an indication of the ambient brightness level in the ambient environment of the hazard detector from the light sensor. The processing system may determine that the ambient brightness level is less than a threshold brightness. The processing system may receive information indicative of the user moving in the ambient environment of the hazard detector. The processing system may cause the light to illuminate based on the ambient brightness level being below the threshold brightness and the user moving in the ambient environment of the hazard detector.
