  • Patent number: 10341708
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling a home alarm and supporting various control functions including STB recording functions are described. In some embodiments, e.g., where the STB is a DOCSIS capable device, communications between the control panel and STB is through a gateway and/or server which allow the IP based control panel to interact with the STB via a communications network and other devices located external to the customer premise where the control panel is located. In embodiments where the STB supports IP capability, communication between the control panel and STB is via a home network. In some embodiments upon selecting an alarm activation option a user is provided an opportunity to select at least one of: recordings, which are scheduled for deletion, to be preserved, or suggestions for programs for recording. Upon alarm deactivation, a list of new recordings made in user's absence and a missed call log is presented.

  • Patent number: 10334222
Abstract: Certain embodiments involve switching to a particular video loop based on a user's focus while displaying video content to a user. For example, a video playback system identifies a current frame of the video content in a current region of interest being presented to a user on a presentation device. The video playback system also identifies an updated region of interest in the video content. The video playback system determines that a start frame and an end frame of a video portion within the region of interest have a threshold similarity. The video playback system selects, based on the threshold similarity, the video portion as a loop to be displayed to the user in the updated region of interest. The video playback system causes the presentation device to display the video portion as the loop.

  • Patent number: 10326931
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for viewing panoramic images and videos through the selection of a particular viewing angle and window (zoom) within that panorama while allowing the viewer to simultaneously implement temporal transport control, allowing the video to be in a state of pause, play, fast forward, fast rewind, slow forward, slow rewind, or frame-by-frame. This capability may be used on video that is residing in memory on the viewer's viewing system, in a hard disk local to the viewer or in a shared location, or on a live buffered feed of video. A second capability of this apparatus and method relates to the use of a plurality of panoramic video or images from multiple synchronized cameras. In those cases, all panoramic video feeds are synchronized so that as a viewer pauses, rewinds, forwards a video in one panorama, all panoramas are time synchronized and go through the same states as the panorama being viewed.

  • Patent number: 10306197
Abstract: In a reproduction method, a first video stream has a first dynamic range where a maximum value of a luminance dynamic range is more than 100 nits, and a display apparatus displays video in a second dynamic range narrower than the first dynamic range. The method determines whether the first video stream is quantized based on a hybrid OETF. When it is determined that the first video stream is quantized based on the hybrid OETF, the first video stream is reproduced. When it is determined that the first video stream is not quantized based on the hybrid OETF, a luminance dynamic range of the first video stream is converted from the first dynamic range to the second dynamic range to obtain a second video stream, and the second video stream is reproduced.

  • Patent number: 10299008
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a computer-implemented method for generating closed captions via optimal positioning and character specific output styles. The method includes receiving a video input. The method generates closed caption data from the video input based at least in part on extracting text data from an audio portion of the video input. For each given frame of the video input that has closed caption data associated with the given frame, one or more characters who are speaking in the given frame are identified via facial recognition and audio tone matching. A respective text style for each given character that uniquely identifies the given character from the one or more identified characters is obtained. Captioning in the respective text style of each of the one or more identified characters is generated. The generated captioning is then inserted into the given frame.
