Abstract: A method for preparing thiophenolic compounds is described comprising reacting a phenol and hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a vanadia catalyst. It is preferred to carry out the process of this invention at low pressures, i.e. at pressures lower than 100 psi, atmospheric pressure being very suitable, although the process is operable at subatmospheric pressures. Preferred phenols, catalysts and reaction conditions are also described.
Abstract: Fungicidal 2,6-dinitrodiphenylthioethers having the formula: ##STR1## WHERE X is halogen, R is halogen or methyl substituted at the 2', 4' or 5' positions, n is 0-3.The compounds are particularly useful against bean rust and bean mildew.
Abstract: 1-Alkenyl thioethers of glycols are described. The alkenyl thioethers possess central nervous system activity and are useful as tranquilizers.
Abstract: Thioglycols are prepared by reacting alkylene carbonates with hydrogen sulfide at 50.degree. - 250.degree. C in an inert solvent in the presence of a carbonate or bicarbonate of alkali or alkaline earth metal as catalyst for the reaction.

Abstract: Novel thiobis-2,6-disubstituted phenols are described which are useful as monomers in the synthesis of polycarbonates, polyesters, epoxy resins, among many others chemicals synthesized from polyhydric phenols. In addition, the thiobisphenols are also useful as antioxidants.
Abstract: Omega-carbomethoxyperfluoroalkylene ether iodides are reacted with metallic zinc to yield alpha-omega perfluoroalkyleneether diesters. The diesters are reacted with ammonia to form diamides, the diamides are reacted with phosphorus pentoxide to form dinitriles, and the dinitriles are esterified with methanol to form diimidate esters. The diimidate esters are particularly useful as monomers in synthesizing perfluoroalkylene ether bibenzoxazole polymers possessing thermooxidative stability and outstanding low temperature viscoelastic properties.

Abstract: Ditertiary organic disulfides are produced by contacting at least one ditertiary organic sulfide with at least one suitable hydrocarbyl sulfoxide and a catalyzing amount of a protonic acid.
Abstract: Multi-block coupled polyoxyalkylene copolymer surfactants are prepared from individual blocks of polymers and copolymers of alkylene oxides by reacting these with bifunctional compounds to form polycarbonate esters and polyformals.
Abstract: A process is described for preparing organic disulfides, useful as accelerators in vulcanization and as anti-oxidants for synthetic rubber latexes, which comprises reacting an organic sulfonyl halide with a mercaptan in a ratio of at least about 5 moles of mercaptan per mole of sulfonyl halide, wherein by-product sulfinic acid is not formed in the final product.
Abstract: Acyl peroxycarbonic esters of the formula ##STR1## in which R is methyl or ethyl, R' is alkyl, and R and R' together have 17 or more carbon atoms. The compounds have unusual thermal stability, together with improved polymerization initiating efficiency. Particularly outstanding efficiency is found in connection with the polymerization of methyl methacrylate.
