The operating system can display a system user interface (UI) element in a mixed reality environment. The system UI element can be displayed at a location in a mixed reality environment. The location is specified by the mixed reality application according to the shared coordinate system. A size and orientation for displaying the system UI element may also be specified. Also, the location, size and orientation may be specified through application program interfaces (API) of the operating system. API calls may be made per frame to adjust the location, size or orientation per frame of the displayed mixed reality environment.

The wearable device may also include one or more microphones that are configured to detect taps and so forth by one or more fingers of the hand. In some embodiments, the microphones are positioned such that they detect the taping my monitoring acoustic waves propagating through the tissue of the hand. The controller uses information captured by the receivers and/or the microphones and a model (e.g., machine learning model) to recognize a hand gesture.

    Abstract: A capacitive MEMS force sensor for touch recognition and force measurement in touch screens is provided. The sensor includes two planar conductive electrodes separated by a predetermined distance using an elastic spacer to define an initial capacitance value of the sensor. An applied external force deforms the elastic spacer and minimizes the gap between sensor electrodes to alter the nominal capacitance value. This change in capacitance is monitored to measure the magnitude of the touch force. The sensor includes two types of the elastic spacers with different values of stiffness to overcome the trade-off between sensitivity and dynamic range of force measurement. These elastic spacers are interposed between sensor electrodes and are offset with a height difference to provide two ranges of force measurement.

A display pixel may include a drive transistor, a gate setting transistor for driving a reference voltage onto the gate terminal of the drive transistor, a data loading and current sensing transistor for connecting the drive transistor to a data/current-sensing line, a light-emitting diode, an emission control transistor coupled between the drive transistor and the diode, and an anode resetting transistor for selectively resetting the anode terminal of the diode. During pixel conditioning and current sensing operations, the anode resetting transistor may be constantly turned on to ensure that there is no voltage perturbation at the source terminal of the drive transistor, which can help prevent hysteresis-induced current sensing error.

Multiple 3-axis load sensors may be embedded in the sensor structure, and may take measurements of a force created by a human user touching the object. The direction of the force may fluctuate slightly, due to tiny shaking movements of the user's hand or finger while the hand or finger touches the object. These tiny shaking movements may occur even in a normal, healthy person. Based on these measurements of fluctuating force that are taken by the load sensors, a computer may calculate three-dimensional spatial coordinates of a point at which the user is touching the object.
