Abstract: A method and system for providing educational content for use in a computing device to facilitate the training of users in new features across applications is disclosed. A package is delivered to a first application that includes a deep link to a specific feature available in a second application. When a triggering event occurs, the user may be invited to explore or use the feature and/or be automatically directed to the feature in the second application.

Abstract: Functionality is described for creating objects that represent respective items provided in a store. The objects can be embedded in various hosts, such as network-accessible pages (e.g., web pages), network-accessible journals (e.g., blogs), messages (e.g., Emails), and so on. Consumers can activate the objects in the hosts to retrieve information associated with the corresponding items. According to one illustrative feature, the functionality provides a general interface for creating objects for different types of items stored in the store, including file items of various kinds (e.g., text files, image files, audio files, spreadsheet files, video files, etc.), list items, folder items, and so on. According to another illustrative feature, the functionality provides an interface for allowing users to customize various aspects of objects.

Abstract: A method and system of interactive tutoring is provided. A question is sent to a user device. Upon determining that the response does not correspond to a known correct answer, a concept map is identified and a cost function between the correct answer and the response is determined. Upon determining that the cost function between the correct answer and the response is above a predetermined threshold, the question is identified to be the origin. Otherwise, the response is identified to be the origin. A present academic proficiency of the student is determined. A difficulty boundary based on the academic proficiency of the student is determined. A next question is provided between the origin and the correct answer, based on the determined difficulty boundary of the student.

Abstract: A method and system for representing usage of an electronic learning system. The method and system involve receiving an input indicative of a selection of a property of the electronic learning system to be represented, the property including a course content provided by the electronic learning system and an activity available for that course content; receiving representation parameters that define a scope of the usage to be represented; determining an event count for the property during the period of interest; and generating a usage indicator for the property based at least on the event count. The usage indicator is generally reflective of at least a usage amount of the property during the period of interest.

Abstract: Some embodiments of an integrated student-growth platform for discovering, designating, and organizing heterogeneous instructional electronic resources based on observational assessments of students are disclosed. The student-growth platform is configured to establish and generate the best possible set of skills and resources for an educator to teach a group of students on a particular day and for a student to quickly progress to meet preferred educational standards. In one embodiment, the student-growth system includes a communication unit for sending and receiving data among users (e.g., teachers and students), an assessment platform, a planning platform, a learning-progression platform, an assignment platform, a mastery-maker platform, a Multi-Dimensional Response Item (MIRT) platform, and a reporting platform.

A reduced set of style rules is determined based upon contents of the web document and style sheet. Reducing the size of the style sheet is desirable, e.g., to increase communication and processing efficiency when the style sheet is sent with the document in an e-mail message. The reduced set of style rules can include rules that are referenced by user interface components present in the document, and can exclude rules that are not referenced by the document, or are incompatible with or not applicable to e-mail. The reduced set of style rules can be embedded in an e-mail message or other communication in place of the original style sheet.

Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and apparatus for low-latency math expression manipulation, communication, and collaboration across multiple peer devices. A controlling peer device can detect a drag node event, pass a network ID of a selected node to at least a second peer device, where the second peer device can locally process the network ID and update a local instantiation of an expression tree and UI rendered from the local expression tree. The controlling device can generate drop regions based on the selected node and the existing tree structure and pass an indication of the drop region to the second peer device. The controlling peer device can detect release of the dragged node within a drop region and pass a network ID of the drop region to the second peer device, which then locally updates its expression tree and UI based on the network ID of the drop region.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring body mounted/implanted sensors in combination with environmental sensors and sensors attached to person's medical/sports equipment. Data indicating a plurality of measured quantities associated with movement of a person at a time point is received. Each measured quantity within the plurality of measured quantities having been determined by a respective sensor attached to a respective location on the person or the person's environment or the person's medical/sports equipment. At least one characteristic of the person associated with the time point is determined based on analyzing the plurality of measured quantities. The at least one characteristic is stored. Recommendations for the person are determined based upon the characteristics, and a report comprising the recommendations is provided.

Abstract: Various techniques are provided to permit location agnostic playback of local video files on mobile devices used in the field. For example, such local video files may include recordings of real world human interactions with the mobile device demonstrating a plurality of tasks using the mobile device. The local video files may be used, for example, for in field training of the users without requiring access to communication resources while in the field. In some cases, the local video files may be implemented in a language agnostic manner to permit users to be trained effectively in the field without requiring language translation.

Abstract: The invention provides for the communicating and editing of media files in wireless portable devices. The invention enables a user to manipulate displayed media content and other types of information stored in a personal media device. A master device may be coupled to a display device such as a television display and bonded to a slave device. A user may through use of either the slave device or the master device manipulate media content. The modified media content may be displayed substantially simultaneously on the television display, the master device, and the at least one slave device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus produces documentation from customized extensible mark-up language (XML) by generating a schema-specific Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) specialization. The DITA specialization is generated from XML schemas which define the XML documents. During the process of generating the DITA specialization, a XSL transform is also generated. The XSL transform is applied to the XML file to produce a DITA file that follows the rules of the DITA specialization. Prior art transforms can then be used to convert the DITA file and the DITA specialization to standard documentation. Generating schema-specific DITA specializations may be an automatic process or a dynamic process under the direction of a user.

In one embodiment, the method includes storing information for a plurality of third party content elements that were selected by a user for display with a page of content, in response to a user request corresponding to a page associated with one of the plurality of third party content elements specified by the stored information, rendering for display on the page a third party content module associated with the third party content element, and, in response to a user modification of the third party content module, storing information corresponding to the user modification. The modified content module is rendered for display on a page of content according to the stored information. The user has the ability to customize and control the parameters of content modules selected by the user to be rendered on the accessed page.
