Abstract: A system includes a user interface for allowing a user to select a data stream to be played, a receiver for receiving the data stream to be played and a transmitter for transmitting the received data stream to a device that is capable of playing the stream. The system includes a first and a second device, which are separate from one another. The first device, called a receiving device, integrates the receiver and the transmitter. The second device, called a control device, integrates the user interface and, following the selection, by a user, of a stream to be played and preview on the control device, transmits to the first device a command for playing the selected stream, the command containing data for locating the selected stream. The user interface allowing selection of the stream from content stored on a storage device, the user interface being accessible from the storage device.

Abstract: A playback application is configured to dynamically generate topology for an interactive media title. The playback application obtains an initial topology and also collects various data associated with a user interacting with the feature. The playback application then modifies the initial topology, based on the collected data, to generate a dynamic topology tailored to the user. The dynamic topology describes the set of choices available to the user during playback as well as which options can be selected by the user when making a given choice. In addition, the playback application also selectively buffers different portions of the interactive media title, based on the collected data, in anticipation of the user selecting particular options for available choices.

Abstract: A method for facilitating the order of commercial products in connection with the display of media content, whereby a player comprises a media production component and an interactive e-commerce component embedded therein. The player with the e-commerce component can be virally copied and propagated from one web page to any number of other web pages. A method for presenting advertisements for commercial products in video productions, whereby the commercial product is placed in the video production as an element of the video production. A viewer is enabled to interact with the video production to select the product. Information is then displayed about the selected product; and the viewer is enabled to purchase the selected product.

Abstract: Methods and systems for delivering content are described. A content distribution network may utilize multiple content sources and datacenters when delivering content to a requesting device. One or more service metrics associated with the content as it is being prepared for delivery at each of the datacenters may be monitored by a quality agent. The quality agent may use the one or more service metrics to select a distribution datacenter to deliver the content to the requesting device. The quality agent may instruct the remaining datacenters to disable delivery of the content to the requesting device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for highlighting objects with a primary content that are likely to be of interest to a user viewing the primary content. More particularly, when the system receives a segment of primary content to be displayed on a user equipment device for consumption, the system analyzes the received segment to identify an object within the received segment. The system then checks a database storing supplemental content to determine whether supplemental content associated with the identified object is available. When supplemental content associated with the identified object is available within the database, the system modifies the received segment of the primary content to highlight the identified object and displays the modified segment of the primary content on the user equipment device for consumption.

Abstract: A system and method in which a TV signal reception device (e.g., set top box) receives a broadcast signal, sends the broadcast signal to a TV, and sends an event signal to a rating statistics information server or associated user terminal when a predetermined condition occurs, to ultimately cause an associated user terminal to generate fingerprint data of audio from the TV and to provide the fingerprint data to the server so as to facilitate channel identification and generation of ratings statistics.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer-readable storage-medium embodiments for implementing passive data collection from third-party channel applications. An embodiment includes running a channel application of a first layer of an operating system, and receiving an application programming interface (API) call, from the channel application, for a module of a second layer of the operating system. The module may be a non-video playback module that includes graphic rendering logic, for example. Some embodiments may further include intercepting metadata sent to the module, determining identifying information of a content instance based on the intercepted metadata, and storing the determined identifying information of the content instance.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, a system, a video camera, and a server all for dynamically batching a video stream from a video camera. The method comprising the steps of: capturing, by the video camera, a video stream; identifying two or more intended subscribers of the video stream, said subscribers connected to the video camera via the packet-switched network; determining a sensitivity to latency for each subscriber; batching the video stream into a plurality of batches, wherein the size of each batch of the plurality of batches is based on the subscriber determined to be most sensitive to latency; and transmitting the plurality of batches of the video stream to each subscriber.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically preparing personalized video presentations using a dynamic scene replacement engine which uses data points relating to a specific viewer to optimize the content of a video presentation for that specific viewer in order to increase the overall emotional effectiveness of the video presentation. The system and method for automatically preparing personalized video presentations operates to identify stock personalizing video content clips which can replace generic scenes in a raw video presentation to add personalizing material designed to appeal to the particular viewer to the presentation. Through this action, a unique personalized video presentation may be automatically prepared on demand for every particular viewer.

Abstract: Intelligently downloading content to user devices is described herein. According to an embodiment, a user request for content is received. In response to the request, a low quality version of the content is downloaded and played to the user. Then, a higher quality version of the content is downloaded (this may occur during or after the download or playback of the low quality version of the content). Playback of the low quality version is discontinued. Then, playback of the higher quality version begins at the point where playback of the low quality version was discontinued. In some embodiments, the low quality version and the higher quality version of the requested content (among all the versions of the requested content) are identified via crowdsourcing.

Abstract: A system for respiration monitoring includes a garment, which is configured to be fitted snugly around a body of a human subject, and which includes, on at least a portion of the garment that fits around a thorax of the subject, a pattern of light and dark pigments having a high contrast at a near infrared wavelength. A camera head is configured to be mounted in proximity to a bed in which the subject is to be placed, and includes an image sensor and an infrared illumination source, which is configured to illuminate the bed with radiation at the near infrared wavelength, and is configured to transmit a video stream of images of the subject in the bed captured by the image sensor to a processor, which analyzes movement of the pattern in the images in order to detect a respiratory motion of the thorax.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for indicating whether a scene in a media asset corresponds to a scene for which a scene change was previously requested. A media player client monitors scene sequences in a media asset to anticipate whether the user will initiate a scene change request based on historical scene change data. In response to detecting a scene sequence for which the user is expected to request a scene change, the media player client determines whether a scene change is necessary and outputs an indication of whether a scene change is recommended.

Abstract: A method for identifying a product which appears in a video stream. The method includes playing the video stream on a video playback device, identifying key scenes in the video stream containing product images, selecting product images identified by predetermined categories of trained neural-network object identifiers stored in training datasets. Object identifiers of identified product images are stored in a database. Edge detection and masking is then performed based on at least one of shape, color and perspective of the object identifiers. A polygon annotation of the object identifiers is created using the edge detection and masking. The polygon annotation is annotated to provide correct object identifier content, accuracy of polygon shape, title, description and URL of the object identifier for each identified product image corresponding to the stored object identifiers. Also disclosed is a method for an end user to select and interact with an identified product.

Abstract: The exemplary embodiments relate to implementing a mechanism that is configured to select and insert a video advertisement into a video stream that is to be provided to a user device by a streaming service. This may include receiving a request for a video stream from a user device. In response to the request, transmitting a first portion of the video stream to the user device and determining that second a portion of the video stream is to include multiple video advertisements. One or more video advertisements may be selected from a database that includes a set of video advertisements that were previously removed from a further video stream. The one or more video advertisements may then be inserted into the video stream. The second portion of the video stream is then transmitted to the user device.

Abstract: System, methods, and machine-readable media to facilitate adaptive content composite interaction with respect to digitally distributed content are disclosed. Discovery may be performed, and events specified for digital distribution may be detected. A particular endpoint identifier mapped to media devices may be detected. Events may be determined as a function of access specifications. Content objects corresponding to the events may be received from a remote system via a network. Content composites corresponding to mapping specifications may be created for each content object with selecting and configuring an adaptable content object with the content object to form a content composite to facilitate presentation of the content composite.

Abstract: Mechanisms provide intermediate key frame animation during a media seek. A streaming server receives a seek request from a client device while the streaming server provides the client device with a media stream. The seek request is made when the media stream is playing at an initial location and the seek request includes a request to play the media stream from a seek location. In some embodiments, intermediate key frames before the seek location are identified. In other instances, intermediate key frames between the initial location and the seek location are identified. These intermediate key frames are provided to the client device for display before the media stream begins playing at the seek location.
