Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs document scanning. The system includes a scanner and a computing device. To enable detection of the computing device in proximity to the scanner, the computing device may be configured to advertise a scan-receiving capability using a discovery protocol. Next, the scanner may use the discovery protocol to identify a set of computing devices in proximity to the scanner, including the computing device. The scanner may then provide the set of computing devices to a user of the scanner and obtain, from the user of the scanner, a selection of the computing device as a recipient of the scanned document. Finally, the scanner may send the scanned document to the computing device over a network connection with the computing device.

The printer forms an image on a sheet on the basis of the drawing data.
Abstract: A communication system includes a printing device, a terminal device, and another device. The printing device includes a communication interface that enables communication through at least two modes; an operating portion that accepts a mode-switch instruction; a printing portion that prints an image based on print data, and a processor. In a direct communication mode, the printing device communicates directly with the terminal device. In an indirect communication mode, the printing device communicates indirectly with the other device. The processor switches the communication mode from the indirect communication mode to the direct communication mode when the operating portion accepts the mode-switch instruction, and switches the communication mode from the direct communication mode to the indirect communication mode when the processor determines that the printing device has finished receiving print data.
Abstract: An image processing device that communicates with a first server and a second server includes a main controller and a power controller. The main controller establishes a connection that enables communication with the first and second servers, establishes a periodic communication with the first and second servers to maintain the connection, manages a first time interval between the periodic communication with the first server, manages a second time interval between the periodic communication with the second server, and changes one or both of the first time interval and the second time interval. The power controller stops and starts power supply to the main controller.

Abstract: A method for printing a print job including a plurality of document pages includes receiving a target cost for printing the print job. The printing system is used to print a portion of the print job including one or more document pages using an initial set of printing parameters. An estimated total cost for printing the print job is determined including an actual cost determined for printing the portion of the print job and an estimated cost for printing a remainder of the print job. A data processing system is used to automatically determine adjusted printing parameters to be used for printing a subsequent portion of the print job if the estimated total cost exceeds the target cost. The printing system is then used to print the subsequent portion of the print job using the adjusted printing parameters.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus reads an original image of an original placed on an original tray by a scanner unit. The original is conveyed to a reading position used by the scanner unit from the original tray through a conveyance path. A registration roller pair configured to mechanically correct skew of the original at a time of conveyance of the original is provided on the conveyance path. The image reading apparatus calculates a skew amount at the time of the conveyance of the original based on the original image, and conducts image processing on the original image based on the skew amount, to thereby correct a tilt of the original image. The image reading apparatus stops the conveyance of the original when the absolute value of the skew amount is larger than a first threshold value.
