  • Patent number: 8131129
Abstract: A decoding apparatus and method for producing a browsable slide show and a data storage medium therefor. The decoding apparatus having a mainstream decoder, which decodes mainstream packet data including image data to be reproduced in a browsable slide show; a sub-audio decoder, which decodes sub-audio packet data including audio data attached to the image data; a mainstream system time clock (STC) counter, which provides an STC sequence for controlling the decoding time of the mainstream packet data to the mainstream decoder; and a sub-audio STC counter, which provides an STC sequence for controlling the decoding time of the sub-audio packet data to the sub-audio decoder. Accordingly, it is possible to seamlessly reproduce sub-audio data even when a user selects a forward or reverse play in the middle of reproducing still image data with the sub-audio data attached thereto in a browsable slide show.

  • Patent number: 8103146
Abstract: In an optical disk reproducing apparatus, when an extension of a still image file whose reproduction is instructed is JPG, the optical disk reproducing apparatus analyzes a header and determines whether or not the still image file is a still image file of a format capable of reproduction. In the case of determining that the still image file is a still image file of a format incapable of reproduction herein, a video signal indicating its fact is outputted. As a result of this, a user can speedily be notified that the still image file whose reproduction is instructed is a file incapable of reproduction, and operability of the user can be improved.

  • Patent number: 8086086
Abstract: The present invention is intended to provide an apparatus and a method for realizing the presentation of a content list and the reproduction of content in accordance with proper user preference on the basis of date and time at which content is viewed. Content preference values that change with time are computed. On the basis of the computed content preference values, a content list is generated for presentation to the user. For example, preference values are computed on the basis of daily time zone, holiday, weekday, and day-of-the-week and a content list in accordance with the computed preference values is generated for presentation to the user. The novel configuration allows the presentation of an optimum content list on the basis of date and time at which content is viewed, thereby realizing the selection and viewing of content that properly reflects user preference.

  • Patent number: 8014648
Abstract: An information recording apparatus includes recording means for recording a file and filesystem information on a recording medium; filesystem-information generating means for generating the filesystem information for every application software program using the file; and operation control means for controlling the operation of the recording means so as to allocate the filesystem information, generated for every application software program using the file by the filesystem-information generating means, to virtual addresses as one file. When the file is to be recorded by the recording means, the operation control means controls the recording means so as to update the filesystem information corresponding to the application software program using the file to be recorded and to record the updated filesystem information on the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7899302
Abstract: A storage device 500 includes an input 405 for receiving a digital video stream complying with a predetermined video encoding standard via a digital video communication system. The stream includes a sequence of digital video frames, a sequence of program clock reference stamps (PCR) and a sequence of video presentation time stamps (PTS). A time-base modifier 510 replaces the PTS's by respective modified video presentation time stamps (M-PTS) based on a constant predetermined frame time between successive presentation time stamps and replaces the PCR's by respective modified program clock reference stamps (M-PCR) by scaling the PCR's using a scaling factor that depends on a ratio of an expected time between a video presentation time stamp j and a preceding video presentation time stamp j?n and an actual time between the video presentation time stamp j and the preceding video presentation time stamp j?n, where j?n>0. The expected time is n times the predetermined frame time.

  • Patent number: 7873259
Abstract: A recording system receives a broadcast signal from at least one service provider. An offset controller of the recording system samples a portion of the current broadcast signal on a particular channel over a particular interval of time. The offset controller then compares the sampled portion with a selection of features anticipated to be broadcast during the particular interval of time. Next, if the offset controller detects that a particular feature from among the selection of features matches within the portion of the current broadcast signal, then the offset controller calculates an offset time from a difference between an expected time for broadcast of the particular feature and an actual time of broadcast. The recording time for a program to be recorded is initially set to the start time and end time from a predetermined broadcast schedule.
