  • Patent number: 4226145
Abstract: A wire stripping tool with two facing jaw surfaces that slide over one another about a fixed pivot axis in a shearing motion. Arcuate grooves are formed in the facing surfaces at equal radii from the axis. The grooves lead inwardly from substantially radial leading edges. Wire fed between the leading edges is initially engaged by the leading edges and the insulative wire cover is cut through. Simultaneously, the wire is shifted in orientation from a position substantially perpendicular to the axis. One jaw member then operates against the body of the wire insulation while the opposite member slides the cut insulation axially off the wire core.

  • Patent number: 4221050
Abstract: A shear is disclosed in a preferred form which is particularly suited for cutting and trimming hair and which includes means for varying the length of stroke of the cutting blade or blades which reciprocate generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle, so that the unit can be manipulated in a manner similar to a comb or brush. The blade drive includes a transmission comprising a pair of eccentrics which are selectively phaseable to provide full range of stroke by addition and subtraction of their eccentric throws. The eccentrics are retained in their selected phase relationship by spring and frictional means which provide an overload release permitting the eccentrics to rephase to zero stroke when the imposed load overcomes the phase-retaining means. Control of the unit is effected by a rotatable and depressable button which controls the drive motor, adjusts the blade stroke by phasing of the eccentrics, and lowers the cutting blade or blades from a retracted position into a cutting position.

  • Patent number: 4221249
Abstract: An elongated sleeve or tubular member is provided concentrically fixed about the shank of a screwdriver with the sleeve having an axially flexible section between its opposed ends to facilitate axial shortening of the sleeve when the screwdriver is used to rotate a fastener the head of which is captured within the open end of the sleeve proximal to the blade of the screwdriver. Such axial shortening of the sleeve automatically seats the screwdriver blade within the slot in the head of the fastener when the frictional force between the screw's threads and those of the tapped hole into which it is being driven overcomes the interference fit between the free end of the sleeve and the screw head.

  • Patent number: 4216630
Abstract: A hand-held grinder including a motor, a motor output shaft and a grinding tool mounted on the motor output shaft. Water is supplied from a source through a port into a sealed annular chamber surrounding the output shaft. A bore extends concentrically through the shaft between a point adjacent the annular chamber and the end of the shaft remote from the motor. Communicating bores extend radially through the shaft and through a collar keyed to the shaft from the concentric bore to the annular chamber. Additional bores, adjacent the end of the shaft remote from the motor, provide communications between the concentric bore and the outside of the shaft. Preferably, the sum of the cross-sectional areas of these last-mentioned bores is relatively less than the cross-sectional area of the concentric bore. Water dispensed through these communicating bores is atomized by rotation of the motor output shaft and grinding tool.
