    Abstract: A mounting unit for a thin-film EL panel includes a substrate provided with cross-grid electrodes on the back surface thereof having aligned terminals located along the marginal sides thereof and a printed circuit board provided with a plurality of conductive paths on the front surface thereof having aligned end portions located along the side portions thereof. The printed circuit board is provided with plated-through connecting holes and routing holes. Some of the conductive paths on the front surface of the printed circuit board are connected to some of the connecting holes and others of the conductive paths are connected to the routing holes. The back surface of the printed circuit board is provided with conductive paths connecting the routing holes to others of the connecting holes. Plug connectors for electrical circuit means are positioned on the back of the printed circuit board with their leads respectively connected to the connecting holes.

A guiding means, disposed within the particle beam, has an electric charge induced upon it by the charged particle beam. Because the sign of the electric charge on the guiding means and the sign of the particle beam are opposite, the particles are attracted toward and cluster around the guiding means to thereby stabilize the particle beam as it travels.

The gap between electrode films opposite to each other across the bore at the bored insulating sheet can be controlled whereby a chip type discharge element discharging at low voltages is obtainable.

The bowl-shaped member is provided with a plurality of ventilating slits for discharging heat radiated from the ballast, and also with air-ducts for communicating the space inside the globe with the outside air. The sleeve may be a continuous deposit of a heavy metal having an atomic number from about 73 to about 83, deposited on the inner surface of the cathode tube, or the sleeve may be a foil liner of tungsten or tantalum. The screen is woven of metal wire on which is deposited a heavy metal.

The radial components in the magnetic field produced in the magnetic gap, which act on the side beams in a direction perpendicular to an in-line direction, are reverse in polarity on the cathode side and screen side so that radial components emerge so as to converge the beams in a tube axis direction.
