  • Patent number: 5328074
Abstract: A film registration gate assembly has a gate with focal positioning location for focal positioning of an image frame of a strip film with edge perforations. Undersized first and second pins enter a pair of transversely aligned perforations to register the image frame with the positioning location. An undersized third pin enters a third perforation spaced along the film from the second pin and then pulls the film obliquely to a reference line extending between the first and second pins to nest against the first and second pins the perforations thereat and register the image frame precisely at the aperture. A plate with a window registering with the image frame and aperture clamps the film against the gate. The window, positioning location and image frame are of corresponding size and shape. The pins register the image frame precisely with the positioning location, and the plate maintains the image frame in precise focal position thereat.

  • Patent number: 5328072
Abstract: A device for continuously determining the position of the edge of a moving web uses a light signal from a light relay emitted in the direction of the edge of a web. The light signal is received and converted by the light relay into an input/output signal which is used as an indicator and as a control value for the position of the edge of the web. The signal outlet is moved together with the signal input preferably along a circular path which intersects the edge of the web twice so that the position of the edge of the web can be determined from the corresponding input/output signals obtained during each revolution.

  • Patent number: 5328073
Abstract: A film registration and ironing gate assembly has a gate with a positioning location or aperture for focal positioning of an image frame of a strip film with edge perforations. Undersized first and second pins enter a pair of transversely aligned perforations of the film to register the image frame with the aperture. An undersized third pin enters a third perforation spaced along the film from the second pin and then pulls the film obliquely to a reference line extending between the first and second pins to nest against the first and second pins the perforations thereat and register the image frame precisely at the positioning location or aperture. A pair of flexible bands extending along the film edges adjacent the positioning location move progressively into incrementally increasing contact with the film to iron it and clamp its perforations against the gate. The pins register the image frame precisely with the positioning location, and the bands maintain the image frame in precise focal position thereat.

  • Patent number: 5318245
Abstract: A fishing reel has a brake apparatus disposed between a reel body and a spool shaft. The brake apparatus includes a rotary element mounted on the spool shaft to be rotatable relative thereto and to the reel body, a first brake mechanism for transmitting a braking force from the reel body to the rotary element, and a second brake mechanism for transmitting the braking force from the rotary element to the spool shaft. When the spool reaches a maximum rotating speed, rotating speed of the rotary element does not increase greatly since the first brake mechanism slips due to inertia of the rotary element. Subsequently, the rotating speed of the rotary element increases with lapse of time. As a result, the first brake mechanism effectively applies a braking force to the spool after the spool reaches the maximum speed.

  • Patent number: 5244137
Abstract: A film transport device for a film with two uniformly distributed rows of holes. Transport is accomplished with a film transport sprocket with a series of teeth disposed in spaced array along a cylindrical tooth circle, which teeth engage the holes in the film and whose tooth circle is driven by a drive motor. A pressure skid brings the holes in the film into engagement with the teeth of the film transport sprocket. Each sprocket tooth has a root portion that merges with the cylindrical tooth circle structure. A base portion adjacent the root portion directly abuts the root portion and has a film support surface at a height relative to the surface of that tooth circle structure that corresponds to the thickness of the film.

  • Patent number: 5213246
Abstract: A trough structure is provided for bending a web of paper widthwise to provide beam strength and controllability to the web of paper, for aiding in guiding the web of paper in a straight path. The trough structure causes the paper to curl widthwise to conform with the shape of the trough structure. The trough structure comprises a concave or convex lower wall upon which the paper flows, open ends through which the paper flows, and shoulders which attach to both sides of the lower wall and extend substantially horizontally from the sides of the lower wall to symmetrical positions above the lower wall. The shoulders act to contain the paper in the trough structure and guide the paper through the trough structure. A drive roll is provided for driving the paper through the trough structure. No buckling of the paper is caused when any slight misalignment occurs between the paper and the drive roll, and this slight misalignment is self-correcting due to the edge guiding function of the trough structure.

  • Patent number: 5203486
Abstract: A crank drive for the material feeder of a machine tool is constructed so that the position of the crank pin along a line of action thereof, viewed in a position/time curve of the crank pin, is a modified sine curve, which curve is modified in that the peaks of the sine curve are flattened. To achieve this, the crank pin is adjustable relative to a crank disc on the one hand by a basic eccentricity setting device and on the other hand by an eccentricity correcting device. The eccentricity correcting device comprises cams mounted stationarily on the bearing arrangement of the crank disc and a cam follower engaging the cams. The cam follower acts on a main slide movably guided on the crank disc. The basic eccentricity setting device is effective between the main slide and a secondary slide carrying the crank pin. The secondary slide is guided on the main slide.

  • Patent number: 5197644
Abstract: A film cabinet for storing and moving a continuous loop of film. The cabinet includes parallel rows of free-spinning rollers connected to the floor and ceiling of the cabinet, and a row of drive sprockets adjacent to the ceiling having teeth for engaging the perforated edges of the film. The film is moved throughout the cabinet around the free-spinning rollers by rotation of the single row of drive sprockets. The film also may be wound around at least one tension roller having a mercury activated switch adapted to disconnect power to the drive sprockets upon film breakage inside the cabinet. Transfer of the film between the cabinet and projector is accomplished by a directionally adjustable film transfer mechanism that ensures proper bending and twisting of the film during this transfer. Other aspects include a quick connect-disconnect roller attachment mechanism, and film guides located in the cabinet to prevent sagging of the film as it traverses, for example, the floor and ceiling of the cabinet.

  • Patent number: 5193727
Abstract: A system for incorporating, in the production of a continuous stream of images, by an image transfer device upon a moving web, post-production operations upon the web at various locations. Locations of a web, having a plurality of images placed thereon, output from an image transfer device are tracked. Specific operations at various locations upon the web are performed by a post-production device as the web passes through it. The web is directed from the image transfer device to the post-production device. In response to the tracking of locations upon the web, the point when a location has entered the post-production device is determined. In response to this determination, the post-production device is commanded to perform its specific operation at a connect location.
