  • Patent number: 5237749
Abstract: A hand tool for peeling elongated vegetables such as, for example, asparagus, carrots, cucumbers, black salsify, etc. including two hand levers pivotable against a spring force about a pivot axis, with the hand levers carrying, on free ends thereof, two mutually opposed paring knives constructed as low-waste peelers. The paring knives are oriented such that longitudinal center axes thereof are disposed parallel to the pivot axis of the hand levers and remain constantly aligned in parallel with each other independently of the pivoting position of the hand levers. The hand levers may be integrally formed in one piece from, for example, spring steel and the pivot axis and the longitudinal axis of the paring knives may be arranged inclined with respect to a longitudinal extension of the hand tool.

  • Patent number: 5237750
Abstract: A hair clipper includes, in addition to a cutter head, a hair entrapping member and a hair pressing member which are both movable relative to a cutting edge of the cutter head. The cutter head comprises a toothed stationary blade and a toothed movable blade. The movable blade is driven to reciprocate in shearing engagement with the stationary blade for shearing hairs therebetween. The hair entrapping member is movable between an open position and a closed position. In the open position the hair entrapping member is spaced away from the cutting edge of the cutter head, thus permitting hairs to enter between the hair entrapping member and the cutting edge. In the closed position, the hair entrapping member is held close to the cutting edge to thereby seize the hairs therebetween for shearing the hairs.

  • Patent number: 5233750
Abstract: The invention is directed to a motor-driven chain saw having a housing and a guide bar extending forward of the housing. The guide bar is clamped between the housing and a sprocket wheel cover. A brake device having a trigger configured as a hand guard is mounted in the sprocket wheel cover. The sprocket wheel is brought to standstill by the brake device when the trigger is actuated. With the sprocket wheel cover assembled, the hand guard is disposed transversely in front of the upper handle of the chain saw. In order to obtain a reliable triggering of the brake device, for example, during kickback and for a manual triggering at all areas of the hand guard, the hand guard is supported in a second bearing on the housing of the chain saw when mounting the sprocket wheel cover. In this way, torques acting in a direction opposite to the actuation of the hand guard are substantially avoided which could otherwise occur because of bearing play.

  • Patent number: 5224267
Abstract: Safety razors comprise frames in which blade members are mounted in such a manner as to permit their angular displacement to change their shaving angle in use. The blade members are pivotally or hingedly mounted and are spring biassed to a normal position in which their shaving angles are at a maximum value. When, in use, the razor experiences high drag forces, the blade members are caused to move so as to reduce their shaving angles. The blade members may respond directly to drag forces applied to them or indirectly in response to deflection of guard members under high drag forces.

  • Patent number: 5214854
Abstract: A spring-biased nipper has a pair of handles connected for pivoting movement toward and away from each other. A helical spring has first and second cylindrical ends and a relatively wide central portion which tapers toward each end. One end of the spring is threadably received in a bore formed on an inner side of one of the handles. An unthreaded bore on the opposite handle receives the other end of the spring. The spring biases the nipper handles away from one another when a user's grasp on the handles relaxes. In a second embodiment, one end of the spring is glued into an unthreaded bore formed in one of the handles.
