  • Patent number: 5297341
Abstract: A locking knife and sheath combination having a knife of unitary construction. A flexible engagement tab is provided on the handle of the knife for engaging with a tab receiving opening provided in a front portion of the sheath. Upon engagement of the tab with such opening, the knife is securely retained in the sheath. Removal of the knife from the sheath is accomplished by depression of the tab through the tab opening of the sheath. Sheath clamping means are also provided on the opposite side of the sheath and include a clamping arm which pivots with respect to the rearward surface of the sheath through means of rotation of a thumb wheel adjustment member. Rotation of the adjustment member allows for the clamping arm to selectively clamp the sheath to an article.

  • Patent number: 5293690
Abstract: In a folding knife or hand tool having a handle and a blade pivotally connected to the handle, a spring loaded crossbolt 1 is fitted to the blade tang. One end of crossbolt 1 protrudes through an arcuate slot in the handle, crossbolt slot 32. A locking collar 19 on crossbolt 1 engages locking counterbores A 34 and B 36 located on the blade side of the opposite ends of crossbolt slot 32. When finger pressure is applied to the end of crossbolt 1, locking collar 19 is forced to disengage locking counterbore A 34 and retreat to a relieved area on the blade, collar relief 52. This permits the blade to be extended by forward finger pressure on crossbolt 1. When the blade is fully extended, spring pressure forces locking collar 19 into the opposite locking counterbore B 36, thus locking the blade. Reversing the sequence will close and lock the blade.

  • Patent number: 5289638
Abstract: A can opener for opening cans of the type having a lid joined to the main body by a rim formed of inner and outer lid surfaces folded onto the upper edge of a can wall. A toothed drive wheel rotatably mounted on a housing engages the inner surface of the rim and forces the outer rim surface against a cutter wheel when a drive shaft is rotated by a turning handle. The turning handle is threaded onto the drive shaft so that rotating the handle both rotates the drive wheel and pulls it tightly against the housing which holds a rotatably mounted cutting wheel. This cuts through the outer lid surface to free the lid from the can. The cutting wheel has an outwardly flaring upper cutting edge and the drive wheel has a curved surface for contacting the inner margin of the rim. The two surfaces coact to force the upper cut surface outwardly and the lower cut surface inwardly. Consequently, as the lid is cut free, it is flared outwardly from the can wall for ease of manual removal and replacement.

  • Patent number: 5287625
Abstract: An improved sandpaper cutting guide is disclosed having a series of recesses to receive different sized pieces of sandpaper. The longer side of a standard sized sheet of sandpaper is placed in one of the slots for cutting the sheet in half or the end of the standard sized sheet may be placed in another slot for cutting a one-third sheet piece. A cutting tool is inserted through a slit in the guide and drawn across the guide to cut a selected one of several smaller, also standard, piece sizes from the sheet. The same slit guides the cutting tool for all sizes with size being determined by the recess into which the sheet is placed. Access openings are provided to aid in removal of the cut piece from the guide. Preferably, recesses are provided for cutting the standard sized sheet into halves, thirds, quarters or sixths.

  • Patent number: 5283954
Abstract: The blade includes a frame body designed as latticework which forms together with two handle shells which can be snapped onto its side the blade handle, and includes a blade which can be clamped by a clamping screw which can be screwed into the frame body into a thread thereof located at the foreward end section of the knife handle, which blade is pressed against a supporting body covered by hard metal and located in the frame body. By the pressing of the blade against the hard metal by means of a clamping screw of which the diameter is larger than the width of the blade any kind of blades can be clamped in the knife handle without using the form locked arresting between blade and knife handle for instance in form of recesses at the edge of the blade such as common at the blades of various designs being generally available on the market. The knife can, therefore, be used with all blades available on the market.

  • Patent number: 5276969
Abstract: A string trimmer provides a cutting head having a passage therethrough receiving a cutting element of fixed length. The cutting element includes a monofilament line and a resilient sleeve surrounds one end of the monofilament line. A rigid eyelet in one end of the resilient sleeve provides an external upset or abutment which cooperates with a shoulder or restriction in the passage to retain the cutting element in the passage during cutting. • Patent number: 5272811
Abstract: A hydraulically controlled self-contained multi-functional hand tool including a hydraulic ram portion with a rod that activates two blades or arms. The blades articulate about a common pin and are mounted on a fork joint which is securely fixed to the body of the ram. Opening and closing of the blades is achieved by means of a system of links controlled directly by the rod associated with the hydraulic ram. The movement of the blades is obtained by means of an assembly which is integrated into the body of the tool. Said assembly includes an electric motor powered by a battery; drive means for compressing a fluid contained within a leaktight chamber, and a flexible membrane arranged in the chamber to compensate for fluid volume differences and to prevent formation of a vacuum in the chamber when fluid is moved to activate the tool.
