  • Patent number: 5411381
Abstract: A pump submersible in a well casing having fluid therein and comprising a reciprocating cylinder located within a pump housing and having a rod and piston which alternately draws the fluid into a sealed region of the pump housing through a one-way valve and then discharges this fluid from this sealed region through a one-way valve connected to discharge tubing. The sealed region of the pump housing can be defined by the end of the reciprocating piston or it can consist of a flexible bellows.

  • Patent number: 5411376
Abstract: A gear rotor fuel pump having a gear rotor pump assembly received on a cantilever bearing in an end cap of the pump and an armature journalled for rotation at one end in the bearing while being rotatably unsupported at its other end for preventing bearing misalignment and reducing pump noise. The end cap preferably carries a bellows modulator for reducing pump noise by reducing the amplitude of fuel pressure pulses transmitted to the bellows from the pump assembly through a port in the end cap. To further reduce noise, the end cap preferably has at least one cavity for receiving compressible gas therein to further absorb the pressure pulses as well as noise generated by turbulent fuel flow at a pump inlet.

  • Patent number: 5409357
Abstract: A fuel pump has a motor with a shaft extending therefrom and an impeller fitted thereon for pumping fuel from a fuel tank to an internal combustion engine. A pumping chamber, which encases the impeller, is comprised of a cover channel and a bottom channel formed in a pump cover and a pump bottom, respectively. The impeller has a plurality of radially extending vanes on an outer circumference separated by partitions of shorter radial length. The partitions are comprised of quarter-circle shaped arcuate portions extending from the outer circumference of the impeller to a straight portion having parallel sides, which preferably extend approximately 0.1 millimeters to 0.5 millimeters, to a flat top with rounded corners. Fluid active vane grooves thus formed circumferentially between the vanes and axially between the partitions which reduce fuel vortices angular acceleration within the pumping chamber thus increasing pump efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5407328
Abstract: A swash plate of a variable displacement type compressor is swingably provided within a housing. Pistons reciprocate according to the swinging motion of the swash plate. The gas is compressed and discharged in response to the reciprocal motion of the pistons. As a stroke of the piston is varied according to the inclination angle of the swash plate, displacement of the compressor is varied. A displacement detector of the compressor includes a detected piece made of magnet. The detected piece is attached to one of the piston and a member which reciprocates in association with the piston. Detecting wires are arranged along the reciprocating locus of detected piece, and include a plurality of cyclic units which cross the center line extending in the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 5405248
Abstract: A flow regulating valve for rotation piston pumps to regulate a useful flow, especially for auxiliary power steering in motor vehicles, contains in a valve core (2) an axially-movable, spring-loaded flow regulating piston (3). On one front surface (4) of the flow regulating piston (3), there is a control edge (14) by means of which a flowoff cross section in a flowoff duct (15) can be altered. To reduce the flow noises, control edge (14) has a rounded portion (17) at the transition to the generated surface (16) of the flow regulating piston (3). In addition, control edge (14) reveals a negative bezel (18). A positive bezel (21) is arranged between this negative bezel (18) and the rounded portion (17) that adjoins generated surface (16).

  • Patent number: 5405249
Abstract: A gas supply apparatus (1) particularly for supplying oxygen comprises a gas separator (2) for separating oxygen from the other constituents of the air. The oxygen passes to a piston cavity (6) of a compressor unit (7) where it is compressed and passed to a storage means (12) from where it can be dispensed via a pressure regulator (13) to a number of emergency oxygen masks (14). The compressor unit (7) includes a number of moving parts lubricated by oil within a first cavity (8). Cavity (8) is separated from the piston cavity (6) by a purge cavity (9). In the event of an oil leak from the first cavity (8), the oil will gather in the purge cavity (9) where it is purged therefrom by the waste gas from the separator unit (2) after the oxygen has been removed. If any of the waste gas leaks from the purge cavity (9) into the piston cavity (6) it will mix with the oxygen compressed therein and form a safe mixture.

  • Patent number: 5399073
Abstract: A compressor unit that has a compressor component and a condensate filter that is used to precipitate water and oil condensed from a compressed gas stream. For the environmentally friendly disposal of the condensate, a filter device containing a filter material is arranged so that a warm air stream entering the filter device after passing through the condensate filter condenses the water in the filtrate stream. The condensate is soaked up in the filter device by the filter material and, with the help of the air stream, which can be the warmed outgoing air of a cooling device of the compressor component, the water contained in the condensate is evaporated, while the oil-containing components of the condensate are adsorbed in the filter material for subsequent disposal. The filter material is preferably placed in the filter device in the form of filter elements arranged preferably in several rows behind one another at predetermined distances in the direction in which air flows through.

  • Patent number: 5391061
Abstract: A hermetic terminal cover is arranged to be mounted onto a hermetic terminal of, such as, a closed-type compressor. The hermetic terminal cover has terminal caps for covering respective terminal strips of the hermetic terminal. Each terminal strip includes a terminal pin fixedly passing through a metallic base with an insulator interposed therebetween. The terminal caps are mutually connected by flexible ribs each having a curved shape, and preferably an arc shape. Accordingly, each terminal cap has a high degree of positional or displacement freedom to facilitate mounting of the terminal cap onto the corresponding terminal strip. Further, each terminal cap has an increased thickness at a portion corresponding to an exposed surface of the insulator holding the terminal pin. Accordingly, adverse affection of metallic powders, such as, generation of short circuits and sparks between the terminal pins and the metallic base is effectively prevented.
