Abstract: A magnetic head slider with at least one thin-film magnetic head element on a suspension is mounted. This mounting includes electrically connecting the magnetic head slider with the suspension with ball bonding connections. Electrical property of the thin-film magnetic head element is inspected, and then the ball bonding connections are separated when it is judged that the thin-film magnetic head element has defective electrical property. Then, the magnetic head slider is detached from the suspension, and thereafter a new magnetic head slider with at least one thin-film magnetic head element is mounted on the suspension from which the magnetic head slider was detached.

  • Patent number: 6823585
Abstract: A method and structure to form surface plating metallization on a substrate. Two layers of tape are applied to the surface of the substrate. A first path is cut through both layers of tape exposing the substrate surface. The first path connects at least one conductive via on the top surface of the substrate. A second path is cut through the second layer of tape exposing the first layer of tape. The second path is routed from the first path to an edge of the substrate A seed layer is deposited over the surface of the second layer of tape thereby creating a seeded plating path in the first path and a sacrificial seeded conduction path in the second path. Connecting the sacrificial seeded conduction path to a plating potential at the edge of the substrate creates a plated path on the surface of the substrate. The sacrificial path is removed when the tape is removed.

  • Patent number: 6820313
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ultrasound transducer (60), which includes forming a plate into a hollow spherical cap by deformation, wherein the plate is initially in the form of a disc of a composite piezoelectric material. The step of forming is preceded by at least one slit (70) into the plate, wherein the at least one slit has a radial orientation and extends from the peripheral edge (72) of the disc (20) towards its center (C). After the step of forming, two facing, oppositely situated free edges (74, 76) which bound the slit (70) are substantially in contact with one another so as to minimize internal stresses in the cap caused by the deformation. A transducer obtained by such a method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6792678
Abstract: An improved manufacturing method for a gas sensor is provided which is capable of establishing a required hermetic seal in a body of the gas sensor. The method includes preparing a sensor assembly including a housing, an air cover, an insulation porcelain, and a sensor element, pressing the air cover against the housing to fit an end of the air cover on an end of the housing to form an overlap thereof, and welding the air cover to the housing over the overlap. The welding is accomplished while pressing the air cover against the housing, thereby compressing an elastic member in the air cover to establish a hermetic seal between the sensor element and the housing. The air cover may be tack welded to the housing before welding the overlap for securing a positional relation between the air cover and the housing.

  • Patent number: 6792673
Abstract: Hollow cylindrical dynamo-electric machine stator cores may be made by superimposing at least two strips of core material to produce a composite strip. One or more of the strips may be run through a pressure roller structure prior to super-positioning of the strips. The composite strip is coiled helically to produce the hollow cylindrical stator core. By pressure rolling at least one strip, the internal diameter of the stator core can be adjusted to reduce irregularities. By superimposing strips prior to coiling, thinner strips can be used without requiring the stator forming machine to operate longer or faster to produce stator cores of a given size. The pressure rolling aspects of the invention are also applicable to coiling apparatus that uses only a single strip. Stator cores may also be made by coaxially assembling and joining two coils with a hollow annular lamination disposed between the two axially spaced coils.

  • Patent number: 6779251
Abstract: An assembly method for a vehicle anti-theft key having an embedded resistor pellet is provided. The resistor pellet includes a flange at one end which abuts one side of the key blade when the opposed end of the pellet is inserted into a through opening formed in the shank portion of the key blade. With the resistor pellet loosely positioned within the through opening, a second flange is attached to the end of the pellet that was inserted through the through opening, thereby capturing the pellet within the through opening by the two opposed flanges. In one embodiment, the second flange is formed in place by employing a polymeric molding process, such as a thermoforming injection molding process. • Patent number: 6772517
Abstract: In order to provide a light heat insulating member having both an extremely low thermal conductivity and a high heat resistance in an atmosphere, in which pressure is reduced, a core member consisting of accumulated heat resisting inorganic fiber is put between a high temperature side skin member and a low temperature side skin member made of heat resisting fiber textile and these three members are tied all together in one body by sewing, using heat resisting inorganic fiber thread. It is possible to reduce the thermal conductivity to an extremely small value by adding a material having a high emissivity (SiC powder, SiC whisker) to the core member and to prevent scattering of material constructing the core member by covering side wall parts of the core member by the high temperature skin member.

  • Patent number: 6772518
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for forming at least one flat-tube insertion slot in a header tube. A sawcut is introduced into the header tube during a sawing step, and the slot is configured, during a subsequent punching step, by means of a slot punch, which punches into the region of the sawcut. A rimmed opening can be configured during the punching step by using a slot punch with a larger width and/or length relative to the sawcut. The sawcut is preferably introduced to a depth less that the wall thickness of the header tube. The respective web region(s) between chamber of a multi-chamber header tube can be compressed during the punching operation to a level lower than that of a header-tube wall region functioning as a flat-tube insertion stop, in order to form a chamber-connecting duct.
