Abstract: Method of making a golf ball comprising the steps of: providing a subassembly; forming about the subassembly at least one layer comprised of a thermoset polyurethane which is prepared by mixing as the essential ingredients: (i) at least one long chain soft segment polyol and/or polyamine; (ii) at least one short chain-extending-type species; (iii) at least one isocyanate; and (iv) at least one additional chain-extending-type species; wherein essential ingredients (i) and (ii) are combined (reacted/mixed) to form a first sub-mixture; followed by combining/mixing the first sub-mixture and essential ingredient (iii) to form a prepolymer second sub-mixture; followed by combining (reacting/mixing) the prepolymer second sub-mixture with essential ingredient (iv) to form the thermoset polyurethane.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for producing polyurethanes including mixing (a) polyisocyanate, (b) polymeric compounds having isocyanate-reactive groups, (c) catalysts and optionally (d) blowing agents, (e) chain-extending and/or crosslinking agents and (f) auxiliaries and/or additives to afford a reaction mixture and reacting the reaction mixture to afford polyurethane. The polymeric compounds having isocyanate-reactive groups (b) are a polyesterol (b1) obtainable by polycondensation of an acid component with an alcohol component. The acid component includes malonic acid and/or derivatives thereof and the alcohol component includes an aliphatic dialcohol having 4 to 12 carbon atoms. The present disclosure further relates to a polyurethane obtainable by such a process and to a method of using in enclosed spaces.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a semi-crystalline mixture of polyester polyols which recrystallises upon melting and which can be obtained by polycondensing a reaction mixture comprising one or more dicarboxylic acids selected from saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acids having an even number of at least 8 methylene groups, and one or more diols selected from aliphatic diols which have at least one ether function. The invention also relates to a polymeric material which is obtained from the chemical modification of the mixture of polyester polyols with organic compounds which contain at least one isocyonate group and/or epoxide group. The mixtures and materials according to the invention are characterised by relatively low melting enthalpies, while the melting temperature can be set in a range of ?30 to 60° C., meaning that it is possible to obtain easily fusible formulations containing the mixtures and materials according to the invention.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a thermoset omniphobic composition (such as an omniphobic polyurethane or epoxy composition) which includes a thermoset polymer with first, second, and third backbone segments. The first, second, and third backbone segments can correspond to urethane or urea reaction products of polyisocyanate(s), amine-functional omniphobic polymer(s), and polyol(s), respectively, for omniphobic polyurethanes. Similarly, the first, second, and third backbone segments can correspond to urea or beta-hydroxy amine reaction products of polyamine(s), isocyanate-functional omniphobic polymer(s), and polyepoxide(s), respectively, for omniphobic epoxies. The thermoset omniphobic composition has favorable omniphobic properties, for example as characterized by water and/or oil contact and/or sliding angles. The thermoset omniphobic composition further has favorable barrier properties, for example with respect to water vapor and oxygen transmission as well as water absorption.

Abstract: One-component, moisture-curable polyurethane adhesives exhibit excellent handling strength before being fully cured, and excellent creep properties after curing. The adhesives include an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer made from polyols that include a crystalline polyester and hydroquinone bis (2-hydroxyethyl) ether, and a polyoxazolidine compound.
Abstract: The present invention is based, in part, on the discovery that the polymeric materials described herein produce polyurethane copolymers with advantageous optical properties. In particular embodiments, polyurethane copolymers comprise repeating units of isosorbide and a difunctional linker where the difunctional linkers can be diisocyanate, diisothiocyanate, dicarboxylic acid, and other monomers. Some of the advantageous optical properties of these polymeric materials include a refractive index of about 1.5 and an Abbe value of at least about 50. Also described are methods for producing these polyurethane copolymers.

Abstract: An adhesive tape including an adhesive layer is provided. The adhesive layer has a biobased content of 50% or more by mass. The adhesive layer contains a reaction product of a urethane resin (A) and a cross-linking agent (B). The urethane resin (A) contains at least a structural unit derived from a biobased polyether polyol and a structural unit derived from an aromatic polyisocyanate. The adhesive layer has a gel fraction of 10% or more by mass and 80% or less by mass and a stress of less than 50 N/cm2 at 100% strain in a stress-strain curve.

Abstract: A thermoplastic polyurethane resin suitable for melt spinning is formed from a reaction mixture via a polymerization reaction. The reaction mixture includes an isocyanate component and a polyol component. The polyol component includes a first polyol that has a first number average molecular weight and a second polyol that has a second number average molecular weight. The first number average molecular weight is between 1,000 g/mol and 1,500 g/mol, and the second number average molecular weight is between 2,500 g/mol and 3,000 g/mol. One resin component formed by the first polyol via the polymerization reaction is defined as a low melting point segment and correspondingly has a first melting point between 170° C. and 185° C. Another resin component formed by the second polyol via the polymerization reaction is defined as a high melting point segment and correspondingly has a second melting point between 195° C. and 210° C.

Abstract: A continuous process for producing a polyurea concentrate or powder. The process includes combing at least one amine and an isocayante in the presence of a liquid diluent or a base oil in a rotor stator mixer. The concentrate comprises a polyurea in a base oil wherein the concentration of from about 20 weight percent to about 50, or 40 or 35 or 30 weight percent of polyurea based on total weight of grease thickener. The powder has particle size of 2 to 400 microns. This concentrate or powder can then be formulated by grease manufacturers to the desired final properties without the need for handling of the isocyanate and amine raw materials.

Abstract: A method of making an isocyanurate polymer is disclosed. An isocyanate including at least one of an aromatic isocyanate and an aliphatic isocyanate is provided. A trimerization catalyst including at least one of an amine catalyst, an organometallic compound, and an imidazole compound is provided. A reaction mixture that is substantially free of reactive hydrogen is formed by mixing less than about twenty percent by total weight of said reaction mixture of an epoxide with said isocyanate. The trimerization catalyst is mixed with the reaction mixture. The reaction mixture is cured to produce a polymer composition including a reaction product of two or more isocyanates.
Abstract: Polythiourethane polymer networks that can be processed and/or recycled are provided. Also provided are methods of forming the polythiourethane polymer networks using excess thiol and/or a dual catalyst system and methods for reprocessing and recycling the polyurethane polymer networks. The polythiourethane polymer networks are based on thiourethane dynamic chemistry.
