  • Patent number: 6700865
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a diversity receiver having an excellent anti-multi-path fading characteristic in a further simple structure. A diversity receiver according to the present invention measures a reception level, delay spread and a phase of a burst OFDM modulates signal received by a plurality of antennas. • Patent number: 6697386
Abstract: In a synchronous multiplex network including a plurality of multiplex transmission apparatuses, an overhead is passed through intervening multiplex transmission apparatuses such that administration and maintenance operation information is transmitted and received through the overhead between arbitrary multiplex transmission apparatuses. The multiplex transmission apparatus receives a multiplexed signal comprising a payload having a plurality of main signals multiplexed therein and overhead bytes including a plurality of administration and maintenance operation information, performs termination processing for the administration and maintenance operation information and transmission processing for the payload, thereafter converts the multiplexed signal into a different multiplexed signal comprising a payload which has been processed for transmission and a plurality of administration and maintenance operation information, and transmits the different multiplexed signal.

  • Patent number: 6693904
Abstract: A unique trace word is assigned to each incoming signal routed by a sliced switch fabric having two or more parallel switches. The unique trace word is encoded into each incoming signal following an overall format that ensures that each sliced trace word (i.e., the subset of bits in the overall format routed by each parallel switch) also uniquely identifies each incoming signal. In this way, the present invention ensures that the switch configuration of each and every parallel switch can always be verified. As such, any improper switch configuration can be detected, including those misconfigurations in which all but one of the parallel switches are correctly configured as well as those misconfigurations in which all of the parallel switches are identically, but incorrectly configured.

  • Patent number: 6693897
Abstract: A Call Alerting and Control System is provided in a communication environment to allow an Internet user (“user”) approximately real-time monitoring of information about an incoming call from a calling party while maintaining a connection with the Internet. The monitored information can include the calling party's name and telephone number. The system could also allow the user to provide an answering machine-type message to the calling party and the user to listen to the calling party's response to the message while still connected to the Internet. The system can further allow the user to reroute, answer or otherwise treat the incoming call while, at the user's discretion, either maintaining or disconnecting a connection to the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6665319
Abstract: To provide a high bit rate link between telecommunication network users, HDSL modems are installed on the user premises and at corresponding subscriber line termination units in an exchange. The modems in the exchange are connected to access units of the exchange which include networks of add and drop multiplexers interconnected in a ring and connected to a drop port. It is shown that it is a simple matter to organize dynamic switching between users connected to the same access unit or neighboring access units in the same exchange. Other calls are routed to other exchanges.

  • Patent number: 6654349
Abstract: A bus protocol is checked automatically during design or manufacture by connecting a bus protocol monitor to the bus and monitoring signals applied to the bus. The response to those signals is then compared with a predetermined desired response. A signal is generated to alert the protocol designer or manufacturing controller if there is an improper response that indicates that the protocol is in error. The invention is particularly useful as applied to check an LPC bus protocol.

  • Patent number: 6646996
Abstract: To determine a network communications device type, (switch or router) without reference to internal information within the network communications device, two packets having preselected, differing sizes (e.g., 64 bytes and 1500 bytes) are sequentially transmitted from one network node to another through the network communications device. The difference between the transmission start times for the two packets, determined by time references set up based on internal data processing system high resolution counters and placed in the IP packet payload, and the difference between the receipt stop times—that is, when the last portions of the two packets are received—are compared. If the two differences are substantially the same, the network communications device is classified as a switch. If the two differences are unequal by an appreciable amount, the network communications device is classified as a router.

  • Patent number: 6639900
Abstract: Round trip time, bottleneck link speed, and hop count information from one node to the remaining nodes within a network is collected and processed by an adaptive resonance theory (ART) neural network to classify the nodes by physical location or site group. For each site group, round trip time from one node to the remaining nodes is then collected and processed utilizing an ART neural network to classify the nodes into one or more physical groups. The resulting breakdown of site groups within the network and physical groups within the site groups forms a model which may be employed by networking and system management applications. No private or proprietary vendor specific information from communications devices within the network need be employed to develop the model, only publicly available information regarding communications parameters.

  • Patent number: 6628628
Abstract: An integrated communication system includes a CDMA network and other network such as a private cordless phone network which operates under a communication protocol different from that of the CDMA network. The CDMA network receives a GPS time signal from a GPS satellite and transmits a GPS-synchronization signal in synchronism with the GPS time signal. When a cellular phone receives an output request signal such as a position registration request signal from the other network, it transmits an output signal such as a position registration signal to the other network at a time synchronized with the GPS-synchronization signal. The other communication network responsively corrects a time of synchronization of its operation time based on the received output signal.

  • Patent number: 6606306
Abstract: A device for supporting a plurality of media conferences includes digital signal processors (DSPs) and a system resource management (SRM) module coupled to the DSPs. Each DSP receives input data packets from conference participants and processes the input data packets to generate output data packets. Each DSP determines whether the media conference is set to an active mode and communicates the output data packets to the conference participants in response to determining that the media conference is set to the active mode. The SRM module allocates a media conference to a first DSP and a second DSP and sets the media conference to the active mode in the first DSP and a stand-by mode in the second DSP. The first DSP communicates output data packets associated with the media conference in response to the SRM module setting the media conference to the active mode in the first DSP.
