  • Patent number: 9927038
Abstract: Pressure control in fluidic systems is generally described. In some cases, a system comprises a fluid-permeable (e.g., liquid-permeable) medium and a pressure regulator. The medium and the pressure regulator can be positioned between a first fluidic channel and a second fluidic channel. The medium is arranged, in certain cases, such that fluid (e.g., liquid) can be transported from the first fluidic channel, through the medium, and into the second fluidic channel. In certain cases, when a first pressure within the first fluidic channel is below a sum of the permeability pressure differential of the medium with respect to the fluid and a second pressure within the second fluidic channel, the fluid is substantially prevented from being transported through an outlet of the first fluidic channel.

  • Patent number: 9919092
Abstract: Blood separation systems and methods are provided for detecting lipids in plasma that has been separated from a plasma-containing fluid, such as blood. Plasma is separated from a fluid in a blood separator, with at least a portion of the separated plasma being removed from the blood separator via a plasma flow path. Blue and/or ultraviolet light is passed through the separated plasma in the blood separator or in the plasma flow path, with at least a portion of the light being received after passing through the separated plasma. A signal is generated based on the amount of light passing through the separated plasma, with the signal being indicative of the lipid content of the separated plasma. Determining the lipid content of the separated plasma involves comparing the difference between the signal and a reference signal that represents receipt of all or a pre-selected amount of the light.

  • Patent number: 9861911
Abstract: One or more dilution tubes for increasing the dilution of pulp as it enters a thickener are provided. One or more pipes, referred to here as dilution tubes, can be added to sides of a feed pipe of a thickener. One end of a dilution tube can open to a tank of the thickener, and the other end can open into the feed pipe. As pulp flows through the feed pipe, low pressure suction can be created that pulls water from the tank, through the dilution tube, and into the feed pipe. The water pulled in through the dilution tube can increase the dilution of the pulp. A highly diluted pulp can contact a flocculent efficiently and lead to a high settling rate in a thickener. Accordingly, the use of dilution tubes can increase the efficiency of a thickener.

  • Patent number: 9833731
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure could generally provide a relatively easily squeezable beverage bottle that allows control of the flow rate of the liquid being dispensed to the user. The bottle could provide sufficient radial rigidity—or resistance to squeezing—to return to its original shape (or “bounce back”) at a suitable rate without experiencing permanent deformation or denting and to withstand the rigors of filling, shipping, transporting, dispensing, etc. The present disclosure generally provides a beverage bottle filtering system that provides adequate filtering of water taken from the bottle at a suitable rate. In one embodiment, the present disclosure could include a support system to adequately secure the filter media within a filter housing while ensuring a sufficient compression fit and seal of filter media within filter system to eliminate “bypass flow” (i.e., water that might leak past filter system) and prevent consumption of unfiltered water.

  • Patent number: 9832939
Abstract: This disclosure describes a system for recycling and reusing water from sprinkler systems to water or irrigate a yard or an area of land. The system includes a water reclamation tank that stores water captured from beneath the area of land. When it is time to water the area of land, the sprinkler system draws water from the water reclamation tank. A portion of this water is then recaptured and supplied back to the water reclamation tank for further storage until the next time the sprinkler system is activated. This cyclical process occurs repeatedly and enables a significant reduction in the amount of freshly supplied water used to maintain the area of land.

  • Patent number: 9795905
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering water has an interface and a filtration/purification canister removably mountable thereon. Connecting the canister to the interface automatically opens a check valve in the interface to permit water to flow from the interface into and through the canister, and then back to and through the interface to an outlet port. Disconnecting the canister from the interface automatically closes the check valve, stopping the flow of water. An end cap may be substituted for the canister to permit fluid to flow through the interface when the canister is not mounted on the interface. The outlet port may be directly connected to an appliance that uses water, to eliminate possible contamination that may occur when water is brought indirectly form the outlet port to the appliance instead. A flapper valve is provided in the canister to prevent back flow of fluid from the inlet port of the canister when the canister is not mounted on the interface.
