    Abstract: A process for removing free liquids from oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste. A process is described wherein a high gravity centripetal separator and low temperature thermal process are cooperatively used to enhance the mechanical and thermal separation methods, resulting in improved efficiency of the hydrocarbon and water removal process. A process is also described wherein the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste is heated to strip volatile constituents and excess water from the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings to further enhance the mechanical and thermal separation methods resulting in improved efficiency of the hydrocarbon and water removal process. A less expensive process is also described where the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste is heated to strip volatile constituents and excess water from the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings to further enhance the recoverable liquids phase during mechanical separation.

    Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for a mobile reservoir system to provide potable water to desired destinations. The mobile reservoir system includes a waterborne vessel that includes a cargo hold. A collection unit comprised of a material for safe and sterile storage of potable water is disposed in the cargo hold. One or more collectors channel rainwater into the collection unit. Each collector is a sheet of a non-porous material supported on a retractable frame and a plurality of support arms. The sheet provides a surface area for collecting rainwater. A porous material covers the collection unit and operates as a filter for collected rainwater. A retractable cover may be extended over the cargo hold to provide protection to the collected rainwater in the collection unit. A filtration system is configured to offload the rainwater as potable water.

Filtrate from the holding tank is used to backwash filter media on the disc-shaped filter members. Filtrate is discharged from the holding tank via a filtrate conduit. Bypass water is directed through a bypass conduit in the disc filter and mixed with the filtrate downstream of the filtrate holding tank. This assures that the filtrate used to backwash the filter media does not include bypass water.

The vibrating screen separator separates the spoil into spadeable fill delivered from the chute and fine slurry delivered to the slurry tank. The spoil treatment plant may also comprise a further dewatering element, such as a rotary press, that extracts water from the spadeable fill.

A pneumatic system such as an air pump, is in fluid communication with the upper part 127 of the enclosure and is configured to determine an air pressure therein. A pipe system connects the upper part of the enclosure with the pneumatic system and with a discharge structure 132. A control unit is connected to the pneumatic system. Also disclosed is a method of backwashing a filtering system. The backwashing apparatus may be used to pre-treat water.

    Abstract: A fat conditioning apparatus includes a conditioning vessel enclosing a conditioning chamber and a displacable plug. The conditioning chamber is bounded on one end by the displacable plug and has a variable volume that is a function of the position of the plug within the conditioning vessel. The apparatus has utility in a fat conditioning method, wherein the conditioning chamber contains a harvested fat emulsion. A washing liquid is injected into the conditioning chamber and mixes with the harvested fat emulsion, thereby displacing the plug in an outward expansion direction and expanding the variable volume of the conditioning chamber. The resulting mixture of harvested fat emulsion and washing liquid is stratified in the conditioning chamber into a contaminant-lean fat fraction and a contaminant-rich remainder fraction. The fat fraction, which is substantially free of the remainder fraction, is recovered from the conditioning chamber as a desired product of the method.

Each filter stage has a removable lid, which provides convenient access for replacing the filter cartridge without disturbing the thermally insulated sidewalls of the filter stage.
