  • Patent number: 4987757
Abstract: A locking mechanism for the trunk lid of a motor vehicle has a component which assumes a first position when the trunk lid is closed and locked. The component may or may not project outward from the trunk lid in its first position. The component is capable of assuming a second position when the trunk lid is released. In the second position, the component projects outward from the trunk lid to such an extent that a portion of the component which is recessed in the trunk lid in the first position is now exposed. This portion of the component may be gripped in order to manipulate the trunk lid.

  • Patent number: 4987756
Abstract: A key-manipulatable switch for a motor vehicle ignition system having a housing and a cylinder mounted within the housing for rotational and axial movement with respect thereto includes cooperating components which prevent the rotation of the cylinder counterclockwise from a first rotational position to a second rotational position unless the cylinder is in a preselected axial position with respect to the housing while permitting unrestricted clockwise rotation of the cylinder to any of several rotational positions. In one embodiment, the cylinder includes a spring-biased stop member which cooperates with a lug-like projection defined by the housing.

  • Patent number: 4987758
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lock (3) on the inside of a door, wherein the lock can be actuated from outside the door. The lock is connected to a locking device (14) on the outer side of the door by a coupling rod (12). In order to increase protection against burglaries, the coupling rod (12) is to pass through a channel (22) with which a channel closure jaw (28) is associated. The jaw is supported on the coupling rod (12) and is under spring-load in the direction of closure. Removal of the coupling rod during a burglary attempt results in a closure of the channel with protection of the lock from tampering by the jaw.

  • Patent number: 4986708
Abstract: A separable fastener includes a fastener body having a head end and a shank nd. The head end defines a generally cylindrical open ended cavity in which a cylindrical punch is disposed. The cavity is sealed and closed by a gas generator that develops an increasing fluid pressure against the punch. The punch is restrained within the cavity by a retaining ring which yields once a preselected gas pressure is reached. The release of the punch causes it to rapidly accelerate in a short distance to impact the shank end of the fastener body. The shank end is thereby sheared from the body with the void created in the body being sealed by the impacting punch.

  • Patent number: 4982586
Abstract: A combination lock has a pivoting bolt for engaging and disengaging a hasp. The hasp, which is disengaged from the bolt when the lock is on-combination, may be re-engaged with the bolt, even if the lock is off-combination. A first spring resiliently biases the bolt to an unlocked position. A second spring resiliently restrains movement of the bolt beyond a locked position in order to prevent disengagement of the hasp in response to application of a shock force to the lock.

  • Patent number: 4982585
Abstract: A low current drain timer for bank vaults is easily settable to limit opening of the vault to a predetermined time, irrespective of the time of closing the vault. Three thumb wheels having corresponding indicia are set to designate the elapsed time necessary for reopening. A timer is activated by a reset switch and the manual repositioning of a mechanical latch, which latch permits later closure of a vault door. Either of sequentially operating solenoids at the lapsed time permit opening of the vault door. A backup battery power source renders the timer unaffected by failure of a conventional electrical power source.

  • Patent number: 4979381
Abstract: To prevent theft of an outdrive unit by removal from a bell housing mounted on the transom of a boat, a padlock holds together a pair of bent bars. The bars are made of a heavy stainless steel. Each bar hooks around an edge of the bell housing, wraps around one side of the bell housing and outdrive unit, and then crosses in front of the outdrive unit. When held together by the padlock, the bars cannot be unhooked from the bell housing and the outdrive cannot be pulled off the mounting studs projecting from the bell housing.

  • Patent number: 4977766
Abstract: A universal lock mount for use with a variety of different types of safe locks. It includes an integral resin structure having a bushing portion and a mounting plate portion. The bushing portion supports lock components, and the mount also includes a retaining cap which is fused to the outer end of the bushing portion to hold the components as an independent assembly. Resin spacing washers minimize wear and provide for smoothness and consistency in the movement of the lock assembly components. Use of the mount permits the lock components to be preassembled, tested and adjusted prior to installation so that the resulting assembly functions as an independent lock element. The universal mount also facilitates security of the safe. Because the assembly is independent of the spindle/driver mechanism used to position its components, removal or destruction of the spindle/driver mechanism does not affect the components supported on the universal mount, and the safe remains locked.

  • Patent number: 4977768
Abstract: An axial split-pin tumbler lock having a rotatable operating element and a fixed element configured to define a shear plane therebetween, and wherein aligned bores extend in the two elements on opposite sides of the shear plane, with specially configured code pins and drive pins slidable in the bores in the elements across the shear plane, the specially configured code and drive pins being so constructed that they will bind or hang up in the respective bores in any number of axial positions during an attempt to pick the lock, thereby giving multiple and differing false readings of an unlocked condition of the lock and rendering it pick resistant.

  • Patent number: 4977765
Abstract: A delay action time lock having a lock housing in which a spring action bolt is movably connected. A retracting cam is provided for engagement with a bolt retracting lever for retracting a locking end of the bolt in the housing by means of a key inserted in a key cylinder and after an electronic timer has initiated a first preset time delay count. A motor actuated support cam is provided for normally supporting the retracting lever in a disengaged position with the retracting cam. After the preset time delay count, the bolt retracting lever is liberated to be engaged by the retracting cam. After a second preset time delay or upon the actuation of a microwswitch by the retracting lever, the motor actuated support cam is placed to support the retracting lever at its disengaged position so that as soon as the key cylinder is turned back to its initial position, the lock bolt is disengaged.
