  • Patent number: 4739741
Abstract: A method of controlling fuel supply to an internal combustion engine at the start thereof. A fuel quantity to be supplied to said engine is set in dependence on a temperature of the engine when the engine is in a predetermined starting condition, and the fuel quantity thus set is corrected to an increased value by means of a correction value which varies with a rise in the rotational speed of the engine. The varying rate of the correction value is set in dependence on the engine temperature such that the set fuel quantity decreases at a first rate with a rise in the engine rotational speed when the engine temperature is higher than a predetermined value, and at a second rate smaller than the first rate with a rise in the engine rotational speed when the engine temperature is lower than the predetermined value. The set fuel quantity is corrected by means of the correction value having its varying rate set as above while the engine is in the predetermined starting condition.

  • Patent number: 4738236
Abstract: According to the invention, a combustion chamber for internal combustion engines is constructed by forming a combustion chamber recessed in the head portion of a piston, and disposing therein a fuel injection nozzle means that atomizes and supplies the fuel thereinto in such a manner that the plural number of fuel mists formed by the fuel injection nozzle means will strike the inner wall of the combustion chamber at intervals at the outside of the swirl generated in the combustion chamber but adhere to the combustion chamber inner wall flowing in the direction of the swirl. Therefore, the fuel so supplied does not cool the combustion chamber inner wall excessively, and itself is heated by the heat of the inner wall as well as by the heat of the compressed air so to vaporize easily, so that favorable dispersion and distribution of the mixture gas within the combustion chamber is ensured, developing stabilized power output and sustaining favorable combustion while suppressing the exhaust of HC and NOx.

  • Patent number: 4736726
Abstract: In determining an optimum target fuel ignition timing in accordance with the engine operating conditions, including at least an engine load and an engine speed, the target ignition timing is determined on the basis of a corrected engine load and a corrected engine speed. The corrected engine load and corrected engine speed are obtained by making corrections, according to the engine operating conditions, to a detected engine load and a detected engine speed, respectively. In this way, the optimum target fuel ignition timing according to the engine operating conditions can be obtained without directly detecting a fuel injection quantity.

  • Patent number: 4736720
Abstract: An idling speed control system for controlling idling rotational speed of an internal combustion engine. A vacuum-operated actuator having a diaphragm defining a vacuum chamber controls opening and closing of a throttle valve in response to first and second control pressures supplied from a change-over control valve to the vacuum chamber. An electronic control unit generates, in response to an on-off control pulse signal having a period corresponding to rotational speed of the engine, one of on-period and off-period of the on-off control pulse signal having a predetermined constant value, and supplies the change-over control valve with the control pulse signal. Preferably, a detector is connected to the electronic control unit for detecting a change in the magnitude of a load on the engine and supplying the electronic control unit with an output signal indicative of the detected change in the load magnitude.

  • Patent number: 4735185
Abstract: A fuel injection control apparatus includes a booster apparatus, in which a cylinder chamber is divided into first and second fluid chambers by a piston. The operative area of the piston facing the first fluid chamber is sufficiently greater than that facing the second fluid chamber. Pressurized fuel is supplied to the first fluid chamber through a first check valve. The fluid is delivered from a second fluid chamber to a fuel injection valve via a second check valve. A fluid passage is formed between the first and second fluid chambers. A third check valve is set in the fluid passage, whereby the fuel is allowed to flow only from the first fluid chamber toward the second fluid chamber. The booster piston is located by means of a first piezoelectric device which includes a plurality of piezoelectric elements stacked in layers. When high voltage is applied to the first piezoelectric device to extend it, the piston is moved toward the first fluid chamber.

  • Patent number: 4732127
Abstract: An air/fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine having an air supply system for controlling the air/fuel ratio of mixture to be supplied to the engine, and an oxygen concentration sensing device for sensing the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. The oxygen concentration sensing device includes a pair of solid electrolyte members operating as an oxygen pump element to which a pump current is supplied, and a sensor cell element. An open/close valve is provided in the air supply system and controlled by a duty ratio control circuit which causes the open/close valve to be opened for a calculated valve open time period in each of successive predetermined cycles in response to a result of detection of air/fuel ratio. When the calculated valve open time period exceeds a predetermined upper limit, the supply of the pump current is stopped so that the blackening phenomenon of the solid electrolyte members is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4732128
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, a heater for heating an air-fuel ratio sensor provided in the exhaust gas flow passage is controlled in accordance with a parameter of a load of the engine. That is, the heater is turned ON when the load parameter is not larger than a predetermined value, and the heater is turned OFF when the load parameter is larger than the predetermined value. The turning OFF of the heater is delayed with a predetermined delay time when the engine rotational speed is lower than a predetermined value, and the turning ON of the heater is delayed with the predetermined delay time when the engine rotational speed is higher than the predetermined value. Thus, the number of times that the heater is turned ON and OFF is decreased, thereby prolonging the life of the heater.

  • Patent number: 4726342
Abstract: An airstream driven rotor assembly with a centrifugal pump forcing a measured fuel quantity through a fixed orifice in direct substantially linear proportion to rotor speed and thus to airstream volume. The ultimate fuel-air ratio is corrected for optimum operation by slightly changing, in response to measured parameters, one of the mixture constituents. In one embodiment, the fuel discharge bore (9) of a rotor (7) is dimensioned that the rotor carburetor (2) produces a lean mixture with a .lambda.-value which is constant for all operating points approximately 1.25. For fuel-air ratio correction additional fuel is brought into atomization ring (11) of rotor (7), by which the fuel-air ratio in the lean mixture is changed and at the engine operating points the .lambda.-values are adjusted to give most favorable fuel consumption, output and pollution.
