  • Patent number: 6846532
Abstract: A laminate packaging material for use with food products, and a retortable pouch comprising that material, are disclosed. The laminate material includes an outer polyethylene terephthalate layer, a nylon second layer, and a polypropylene inner layer. A solventless adhesive is used to bond the layers together. The solventless adhesive includes surface-modified exfoliated montmorillonite clay platelets. The platelets lie generally parallel to the plane of the laminate, and overlap to form a barrier to oxygen and other volatile materials. The retortable pouch is formed by heat sealing the edges one of more sheets of the laminate such that the polypropylene layers face inward and are welded together. The pouch and its contents can then be pasteurized by heat-treatment without degradation of the laminate or the heat seal.

  • Patent number: 6833170
Abstract: A flexible food package with a wall comprised of thin film layers, one of which has a reduced permeability characteristic that reduces absorption by the package wall of oils associated with the food product in the package. The reduced permeability characteristic is achieved by an enhanced orientation or enhanced crystallinity of the polymers forming the thin film layer. Reducing the amount of oil absorbed by the package wall reduces the amount of swelling, puckering, and disfigurement of the package.

  • Patent number: 6830794
Abstract: Insulated intravenous administration tubing is disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention includes a single medical solution or I.V. tubing manufactured of a polymeric material having good flexibility and comprising an insulation polymer or having an insulation medium applied to the inner or outer surface of the tube or blended into the tube during or after forming, with Mylar being an advantageous insulation material. The present invention may also consist of a long tubular-like structure which consists of two concentric channels, an inner channel and an outer channel. The inner channel accepts and encloses the tubing in which warm fluid flows. Three key functions are, achieved: the inner channel is centered within the outer channel; this provides for maximum insulation efficiency/properties with the minimum of separating space, transparency may be provided; i.e. the more transparent the insulation the better the ability of the user to see the quality of the warm fluid flowing within, i.e.
