  • Patent number: 6195882
Abstract: A method for producing printed wiring boards comprises the steps of perforating through holes at predetermined positions in an adhesive insulator sheet, filling the through holes with a conductive material such as a conductive paste or metal balls, transferring conductive wiring patterns that have been formed on surfaces of releasable supporting sheets onto the surfaces of the adhesive insulator sheet by heat and pressure. Simultaneously, interlayer via-connections are performed by means of the conductive material filled into the through holes.

  • Patent number: 6192777
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting pieces of material from a workpiece, such as a web of patterned fabric, which includes irregularities or which is misaligned with respect to a coordinate system of the cutting apparatus. The workpiece is spread on a cutting table where it is cut by a numerically controlled cutter in accord with an electronic marker stored in the cutter controller. The marker is matched to the workpiece and appropriate adjustments are made to the marker before the workpiece is cut. A laser, operatively connected to the controller, projects a match target onto the workpiece at a point corresponding to a selected point on the marker. The marker is then adjusted such that the selected point coincides with a desired location on the workpiece. Adjustment is achieved by electronically displacing the match target from a non preferred location to a preferred one. Software in the controller translates this displacement into appropriate adjustments to the marker.

  • Patent number: 6185814
Abstract: A sensor comprises a semiconductor pellet (10) including a working portion (11) adapted to undergo action of a force, a fixed portion (13) fixed on the sensor body, and a flexible portion (13) having flexibility formed therebetween, a working body (20) for transmitting an exterted force to the working portion, and detector means (60-63) for transforming a mechanical deformation produced in the semiconductor pellet to an electric signal to thereby detect a force exerted on the working body as an electric signal. A signal processing circuit is applied to the sensor. This circuit uses analog multipliers (101-109) and analog adders/subtracters (111-113), and has a function to cancel interference produced in different directions. Within the sensor, two portions (E3, E4-E8) located at positions opposite to each other and producing a displacement therebetween by action of a force are determined. By exerting a coulomb force between both the portions, the test of the sensor is carried out.

  • Patent number: 6173489
Abstract: A flip chip integrated circuit package which provides stress relief for the solder bumps of the package. The package includes an integrated circuit that is mounted to a substrate. The integrated circuit is attached to a plurality of bond pads of the substrate by a number of corresponding solder bumps. The substrate has a first layer that is attached to a second layer. An area that is located between the layers and adjacent to the bond pads is left unattached so that a portion of the first layer can move independent of the remaining portion of the substrate. The unattached area allows the integrated circuit to “float” and expand at a different rate than the substrate when the package is thermally cycled.

  • Patent number: 6173487
Abstract: A fan speed controller of an automotive vehicle air conditioning device is usually placed in an air flow duct to be effectively cooled. Thus, compact construction of the speed controller is needed to obtain a larger air flow in the air flow duct. For this purpose, various compact resistor units for the speed controller have been proposed. However, some of them are poor in durability against shocks. In view of this, a compact resistor unit for a speed controller includes a resistor block that has a flat resistor, a flat insulating plate and a flat radiation plate which are respectively positioned against one another. The compact resistor unit further includes a holder block of molded plastic on which the resistor block is mounted. The compact resistor unit also includes a plurality of metal terminals partially embedded in the holder block, where the terminals are connected to particular portions of the flat resistor.

  • Patent number: 6170154
Abstract: A novel circuit packaging structure including a combination of printed lumped elements within a multi-layer stripline architecture is provided and methods of making the same. The lumped elements are provided by printing the individual passive elements, including interdigital capacitors and spiral inductors, onto the supporting substrate and then embedding these elements into the multi-layer stripline structure. The stripline structure consists of a signal layer sandwiched between at least two ground layers separated by two dielectric substrates of equal thickness. This ground-signal-ground approach confines the electromagnetic fields within the multi-layer structure, thereby minimizing radiation from coupling to nearby components. This approach offers a unique combination of stripline technology and printed lumped elements resulting in miniaturized radio frequency and microwave circuits at operating at frequencies well below 1 GHz, up to several GHz.

  • Patent number: 6155150
Abstract: An apparatus and method for driving a ramped drive assembly longitudinally, to drive a penetrator transversely, to cause the penetrator to penetrate and withdraw from a downhole tubular element. An anchor holds the tubing punch assembly in place in the downhole tubular element. A double piston assembly drives the drive assembly hydraulically in the downhole direction, thereby driving the ramp downhole, to force the penetrator outwardly to penetrate the tubular element. Thereafter, pulling uphole on the work string shears a shear sleeve, separating the housing of the tubing punch assembly from the work string. Further pulling on the work string partially withdraws the ramped drive assembly from the tubing punch assembly, thereby withdrawing the penetrator into the tubing punch assembly.
