  • Patent number: 9916655
Abstract: The latest progresses in breast imaging using differential phase contrast techniques pose the question of how to fuse multiple information sources, yielded by absorption, differential phase, and scattering signals, into a single, informative image for clinical diagnosis. It is proposed to use an image fusion scheme based on a multiple-resolution framework. The three signals are first transformed into multiple bands presenting information at different frequencies and then a two-step processing follows: (1) intra-band processing enhances the local signal-to-noise ratio using a novel noise estimation method and context modeling; and (2) inter-band processing weights each band by considering their characteristics and contributions, and suppressing the global noise level. The fused image, looking similar to a conventional mammogram but with significantly enhanced detail features, is reconstructed by inverse transform.

  • Patent number: 9913691
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to model-based surgical planning. One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a surgical planning tool that can be implemented on a computer to be used for model-based surgical planning. The surgical tool can determine a coordinate system related to gravity from a plurality of standing images of a joint of a patient. The coordinate system can be used to plan a patient-specific arthroplasty procedure. As such, the surgical planning can include orienting a model of an implant for the joint at an optimal location in the coordinate system based on a weighting between an edge loading value and an impingement value.

  • Patent number: 9892310
Abstract: A prohibited object detection system detects prohibited objects in a patient room. An image of an object detected in a room of a patient is initially collected. The system identifies reference points on the object, for example, points along the contours of the object. The system may compare the reference points to reference points of images associated with prohibited objects. The system then determines, based on the comparison, if the object is a prohibited object. One or more designated recipients may be alerted if the object is a prohibited object. The system may also register the object in a database of prohibited objects.

  • Patent number: 9892311
Abstract: An unauthorized visitor system collects an image of a person detected in a room of a patient. The system identifies reference points on the person's face, for example, points along the cheeks, jowls, and/or brow. The system may compare the reference points to reference points of images associated with registered visitors. The system then determines, based on the comparison, if the person is a registered visitor. One or more designated recipients may be alerted if the person is not a registered visitor or if the person breaches a patient identification zone established around a particular patient. The system may also register the person in a database of visitors.

  • Patent number: 9870626
Abstract: A digital magazine server determines a dominant color present in an image using a clustering algorithm. Color components of each pixel in the image are identified used to generate vectors associated with each pixel. Based on the vectors associated with the pixels, clusters including one or more pixels are generated using a clustering algorithm (e.g., k-means). The digital magazine server generates a characteristic vector for each cluster based on the vectors included in the cluster and selects a set of clusters based on their characteristic vectors. A centroid identifying the dominant color of the image is determined from the characteristic vectors of clusters in the set.

  • Patent number: 9870615
Abstract: Locating morphology in a tissue sample is achieved with devices and methods involving storage of a plurality of feature vectors, each associated with a specific named superpixel of a larger image of a tissue sample from a mammalian body. A microscope outputs, in some embodiments, a live image of an additional tissue sample or a digitized version of the output is used. At least one superpixel of the image is converted into a feature vector and a nearest match between the first feature vector and the plurality of stored feature vectors is made. A first name suggestion is then made based on the nearest match comparison to a store feature vector. Further, regions of interest within the image can be brought to a viewer's attention based on their past history of selection, or that of others.

  • Patent number: 9846937
Abstract: Digital images, such as radiological images, are evaluated using correlative properties of information contained in a pixel and adjacent pixels. Each pixel is evaluated according to its own properties and adjacent pixels. Each pixel is identified as either satisfying a predefined criteria or not satisfying the criteria based on how many of the pixel and adjacent pixels satisfy a correlative property. A binary array is formed with the pixels satisfying the predefined criteria being nonzero and the other pixels being zero. The image being evaluated is divided into predefined blocks of pixels, and the number of nonzero pixels in each of the blocks is divided by the predefined number of pixels in the blocks to produce a ratio for each block. Image intensity is set for each of the blocks according to the ratio. Correlative information from corresponding pixels across different images of the same object can also be evaluated.
