  • Patent number: 6867354
Abstract: Various kinds of members are located on the body of an electric guitar, and strings are supported by the members at predetermined positions along the longitudinal direction. The strings are adjusted by a fine-tuning element and a harmonic tuning element. A base plate is pivotally supported on the guitar body. Each of saddles is rotatably coupled to one of saddle holders, the position of which can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction of the strings, and corresponds to one of the strings. Each saddle contacts the corresponding string at a predetermined point. Each string holder, which is located in one of the saddles, holds the corresponding string at a part that is below the contact point of the string. The fine-tuning element fine-tunes each string by changing the rotational angle of the corresponding saddle without actually changing the contact point of the corresponding string. The harmonic tuning element adjusts the position of each saddle holder in the longitudinal direction of the strings.

  • Patent number: 6864659
Abstract: An HVAC system has at least one variable speed controller for an AC induction motor, especially of the Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) type. The variable speed controller provides switched power via a modulating triac to the main coils of the motor and constant power via an on/off triac to the auxiliary coils during operation. A large value capacitor is placed in line with the auxiliary coils to reduce power consumption and current draw over that of known systems. Power to the motor can be turned off to provide for motor speed sensing through monitoring the frequency of a generated voltage when the power is turned off. Frequency-based motor speed sensing is accomplished by shutting off all current to the motor and measuring zero crossings on the generated voltage of the decaying magnetic field. The controller can be easily retrofitted onto existing motors. An optional controller bypass is provided to run the motor at rated speed in case of controller failure.

  • Patent number: 6863152
Abstract: A symmetrically loaded, shallow suspension speaker with stiff diaphragm having a minimum dimension that is greater than the diameter of the magnet that drives the diaphragm thus allowing the suspension of the diaphragm to extend nearly to the bottom of the speaker basket on the maximum inward excursion of the voice coil and diaphragm such that the suspension operational depth is not the limiting factor of the overall height of the speaker. The elements of the suspension system are designed to maximize the spacing between the inner and outer portions of the suspension, thus minimizing the possibility of wobble in the speaker. The speaker design maximizes air movement in a given mounting depth with a configuration that optimizes the operation of the moving parts that complements the fixed mechanical structural configuration of the non-moving parts in either an overhung or underhung configuration. The design also accommodates user replacement of the voice coil or cone.

  • Patent number: 6852916
Abstract: This invention relates to a lute comprising a body-shaped sound box and a neck attached thereto. The sound box is made up of a domed rear section and a cover. The aim of the invention is to provide a lute which can meet the needs of modern concert performances and be used by contemporary guitarists, whereby the excellent sound qualities of the lute are retained and the instrument can be used in a modern-day orchestra. This is achieved by providing the cover and the string-holder with a outwardly curved shape; a surface that is devoid of any transverse beams is arranged on the underside in an approximately symmetrical position with respect to the string holder and said surface is configured as a strip-free surface or fitted with strips which are symmetrical with respect to the center axis.

  • Patent number: 6852917
Abstract: An associated method of construction and fabrication of organ windpipes and wind musical instruments utilizing composite materials. The fiber reinforced composite construction is a combination of fibers and resinous material. The fibrous material, maybe Carbon fibers, and/or Kevlar fibers, and/or Fiberglass fibers, and/or Wood Veneer(s) and/or core material, or any combination thereof, which is oriented and layered to create a laminate. The fibrous material can be pre-impregnated with a resinous material or impregnated with a resinous material. The acoustical resonance properties of the fiber reinforced composite wall material or laminate resonates with the generated pressure wave of the wind musical instrument, thereby providing improved tonal and acoustic performance. The lightweight fiber reinforced composite wind instrument, produces richer and more brilliant tones, as well as multiple harmonics.

  • Patent number: 6846977
Abstract: Magnetically receptive guitar pick stickers are disclosed. These stickers can be adhered to synthetic guitar picks so that the picks can be magnetically held against an object, such as a thin magnet. Each sticker is sized to fit within a perimeter of a guitar pick and is relatively thin so as to be mostly unnoticeable when the guitar pick is gripped. A sticker sheet includes an adhesive backing sheet on which the stickers may be initially carried. Each sticker has a magnetically receptive layer (such as metal) and an adhering layer formed between the magnetically receptive layer and the adhesive backing sheet. Advantageously, a guitar player's preferred guitar picks may be magnetically carried by the thin magnet which is attached to a guitar or a guitar case.
