  • Patent number: 6781980
Abstract: A wideband code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system overlayed on an IS-95 network generates two or more digital bit streams from a group of wideband digital data streams, each digital bit stream spread to form a CDMA component signal. Each CDMA component signal is combined with a corresponding IS-95 digital bit stream to form a composite CDMA signal, allowing a base station to share transmitter subsystems between the wideband and IS-95 systems. For up to three carrier frequencies, up to three composite CDMA signals are employed. A digital bit stream for a group of summed user conversations in the IS-95 system modulates a respective RF carrier frequency to generate a low-power RF signal. The CDMA component signals of the wideband CDMA system are generated so each has a chip rate identical to the chip rate of the digital bit streams of the IS-95 system.

  • Patent number: 6778539
Abstract: A method of using routing tables. In this method, routing differs from ordinary table routing in that the part of a destination address (e.g., DestinationID) used for a table lookup is variable. Networks using the full address space of a network node can be made by partitioning the network topology into several levels, such as a top topology and any number of sub-topologies. With a DestinationID of N−1 bits, a routing table of 2n entries is sufficient to support topologies using the full address space, wherein n<N−1.

  • Patent number: 6778540
Abstract: A facility is provided to allow for dynamic configuration of data routing between TCP/IP stacks of multiple partitions of a multi-partition processing system and a network adapter such as a local area network (LAN) gateway for the multi-partition processing system. The facility includes a command for automatically providing the network adapter with information that a particular partition of the processing system is to function as a router; and using the information at the network adapter to forward data received across the network to the partition when the data is to an unregistered HOME internet protocol (IP) address. The forwarding of data to the router partition occurs without any conventional IP processing.

  • Patent number: 6775238
Abstract: In an image forming device management system and method, a failure in any of a plurality of image forming devices on a first LAN is detected by a management apparatus. A failure message is transmitted from the management apparatus to a center system via a public switched telephone network when the failure is detected, the failure message including a failure code provided to identify the failure. The failure message, transmitted by the management apparatus, is received at the center system. A database of the center system is accessed by using the failure code of the received failure message so as to produce results of the accessing at the center system. A service department ID is extracted from the database based on the accessing results. A service request message is transmitted from the center system to a service department indicated by the service department ID.

  • Patent number: 6775253
Abstract: Active packets are utilized by a mobile terminal in a wireless network to set-up a wireless call via a signaling process, and for mobility management via a mobility process as the mobile terminal moves from one cell to another in a subnet. Active packets instantiate an agent in the fixed network to handle signaling between the mobile terminal and the fixed network, and then instruct the agent to negotiate setup of an open channel between the mobile terminal and the destination device. Moreover, active packets foster the handoff of the mobile terminal as the terminal moves from one cell to another in a subnet. Finally, the signaling process and mobility process are coordinated so that lost active packets are mitigated during roaming by the mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 6771631
Abstract: In telecommunications networks, various kinds of information transfer occur where transmission periods are not transmitted. As a result of this, parts of the information packets contained in the concerned transmission periods are lost and the probability of loss of these information packets increases considerably. With the method according to the invention, the quality of information transfer is ensured in a telecommunications network where the information packet is coded and interleaved into at least two transmission periods. According to the invention, the method is characterized in that therein the transmission power of at least one transmission period related to the transmission of the same information packet is increased, when at least one transmission period is not transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6771644
Abstract: Program insertion in real time IP multicast enables the seamless insertion of a secondary program within an IP multicast session of a primary program. A primary content provider transmits its multimedia stream to a first proxy that transmits the data to a destination multicast session. A secondary content provider interested in inserting a program into that destination multicast session sends a request through a second proxy to the first proxy requesting a time slot to insert secondary program. The request includes the duration of the secondary program. The first proxy responds with a time slot or a denial of the request depending if a time slot is available. Assuming an available time slot, at the appropriate time the first proxy transfers control of the destination multicast session to the second proxy which transmits the secondary program. Upon completion of the secondary program the second proxy returns control of the session to the first proxy.

  • Patent number: 6771622
Abstract: An example application of the invention is directed to a mobile receiver searching pilot signals in a CDMA-based radiotelephone communications system. The receiver processes received pilot signals by first decimating those pilot signals that have a search window length that is greater than a threshold number of chips, into a plurality of sub-windows. The other pilot signals and the sub-windows are then searched using a common prioritization criteria. More specific implementations of this approach permit each search of this type to take a fixed amount of time, thereby making scheduling calculations easy to implement. Moreover, such implementations provide for all pilots to be searched equally often irrespective of window sizes, and for less likely candidates for idle handoff (pilots with longer window sizes) not to be given precedence over more likely idle handoff candidates.

  • Patent number: 6771653
Abstract: A system for providing prioritized queue management within a data transmission network node that supports different types of data frame traffic is disclosed herein. The system includes a frame buffer for storing an incoming frame that has an identifiable frame type. A queue is pre-associated with the frame type of the incoming frame such that upon arrival of the frame at the network node, the queue stores a location address at which the frame is stored within the frame buffer such that the frame is maintained within the queue. The queue that contains the frame is stored within a frame table. Processing means are provided for determining a time at which the queue forwards the frame from the frame buffer in accordance with a pre-determined sub-queue priority list. The system further includes time metering means associated with the frame for temporally assigning the frame to a virtual sub-queue among multiple virtual sub-queues that are associated with the queue.

  • Patent number: 6763039
Abstract: A method for locating a synchronization sequence S having a length s in a serial bit stream, and an arrangement for the implementation of such a method make use of the fact that the synchronization sequence S is composed of a plurality of individual words A, B, C having respective lengths a, b, c. The search in the serial bit stream relates only to a word length a, b, c and not to the entire length s of the synchronization sequence S. When a word A, B, C has been recognized, the expected value for the search for the next word A, B, C is set by a controller. The expected values for the words A, B, C to be searched are programmable and thus can be freely defined for each application, so they can be selected in an application-specific manner. The words A, B, C to be searched can be characterized by two auxiliary bits Z whose formation is exactly inverted relative to that of normal data words A, B, C. This guarantees an unambiguous and dependable recognition of these words A, B, C.

  • Patent number: 6762996
Abstract: A traffic policer is coupled to a network buffer. A cell stream is supplied to this traffic policer. When a frame has a mix of tagged and non-tagged cells, the distribution of tagged and non-tagged cells is determined. Based on this distribution and some predetermined criteria, a decision is made to tag all cells of the frame or to set all tags to non tagged in the frame. Exiting frames only exist of all tagged cells or all non tagged cells. Entire frames are discarded in case of congestion.
