  • Patent number: 5967571
Abstract: A vacuum actuated mechanical latch is attachable to a hermetically sealable container. The latch is attached, formed, or otherwise integral with the door of the container. The latch is easily engaged and disengaged by processing equipment. Also, the latch is designed to minimize the amount of abraded particulate and further isolate any particulate generated. Further, when the door is latched to the container, the latch is not easily overcome by jarring or bumping. The lead-in surface of the latch is angled to minimize friction when the latch is forced into a first locking position.

  • Patent number: 5964487
Abstract: A security door latching mechanism and complementary receiver are arranged to be installed within a door and a complementary door jamb. In the preferred embodiment, the installation takes place in a vehicle and the latching mechanism can be installed either in the door or in the door frame or jamb. The latching mechanism includes a plunger shaft which is arranged to extend from the door jamb into the receiver, and is forcibly maintained in the extended position until retracted by an electrical current provided to an actuator. This actuator is spring-driven to keep the plunger shaft in an extended position until provided with an electrical power to retract the plunger shaft. A wedge-shaped guide forces the plunger shaft to slide to the recess when the door is being closed. It is necessary to constantly maintain the electric power to the actuator in order to keep the plunger shaft retracted.

  • Patent number: 5961165
Abstract: An outer door handle structure is operated as a directly operating system wherein an engaging piece of an unlocking lever for unlocking a door is directly depressed by the tip portion of an operating lever mounted on an outer door handle via an arm portion, so that any transmission mechanisms such as a rod can be omitted unlike conventional indirect operating systems. The arm portion has an inclined portion on which the engaging piece of the unlocking lever can slide up when a load is applied to the outer door handle from the outside. The outer door handle may have a pair of arm portions spaced at an interval in a horizontal direction. One of the arm portions has a preset quantity of rotational stroke necessary to unlock the door, and the other arm portion has a greater quantity of rotational stroke than that of the one arm portion by forming a recessed portion in the other arm portion or the like.

  • Patent number: 5961163
Abstract: A motor-vehicle door latch has a latching fork and a release pawl engageable with the fork and pivotal between a latched position retaining the fork in a latched position engaged around a bolt and an unlatched position in which the fork can release the bolt. A coupling lever is pivotal between a coupling position connecting an actuating lever to the release pawl for actuation of the release pawl by the actuating lever and a decoupling position in which movement of the actuating lever does not move the release pawl. An inside locking lever pivotal between a locked and unlocked position is connected by a coupling to a central-locking lever also pivotal for joint synchronous pivoting thereof. A spring engaged between the locking lever and the coupling lever normally moves the coupling lever into its decoupling position on movement of the locking lever into its locked position.

  • Patent number: 5961166
Abstract: An interior door handle assembly for locking and releasing a door latch mechanism is connected to the door latch mechanism by a single push/pull operating cable. The latch mechanism has a release lever and a locking lever, the release lever and locking lever being pivotally mounted about axes which are parallel but spaced from one another. The push/pull cable is connected to the locking lever and the locking lever has a formation which, when the latching mechanism is in a latched but unlocked condition will extend into the path of the release lever so that upon movement of the release lever to release the latch mechanism, the formation will be engaged by the release lever to pull the cable. The formation is moved out of the path of the release lever when the locking lever is moved to lock the latch mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5957641
Abstract: A sealing fastener, such as a sealing rivet, is disclosed for sealing engagement with a workpiece. The sealing fastener has a head and a shank extending from a lower surface of the head. An aperture passes through the head and shank, and a mandrel and collar fit within the aperture. A sealing member, such as an O-ring is disposed between the collar and the mandrel. The head of the sealing fastener may also have a groove formed therein and may have a sealing member disposed at least in part in the groove. In use, the rivet is placed through an opening in the workpiece, and a lower portion of the shank is collapsed so to form a lower head and so that the upper and lower heads engage the workpiece. The sealing member is compressed between the collar and a wall of the aperture, and the collar and mandrel are placed in locking engagement to maintain the sealing member in a compressed state.

  • Patent number: 5953940
Abstract: An easily operable combination padlock includes: a casing, a shackle having a long leg member and a short leg member respectively lockable with a pair of locking shuttles slidably held in the casing, a plurality of dials and sleeves rotatably mounted on a bolt longitudinally held in the casing, a conical head portion formed on a top of the bolt tangentially engageable with the two shuttles, and a combination-changing device formed on a bottom portion of the bolt and the casing for resetting a new combination when the padlock is unlocked; whereby upon an outward extending of the two shuttles as urged by the conical head portion of the bolt to engage the two leg members of the shackle, the shackle is locked for locking the padlock; and upon unlocking of the padlock, the conical head portion on the bolt is downwardly depressible without retarding an inward retraction of the two shuttles, the shackle will be upwardly pulled by retracting the shuttles for unlocking the padlock.

  • Patent number: 5951068
Abstract: A lock for the locking of a sliding closure. The lock includes a housing (10) with a pair of hook shaped locking elements (11) which are mounted for counter-rotation within the housing. A handle (26) is mounted for rotation on the housing and is coupled to a gear wheel (23) which meshes with a pair of rack elements (30,32) which are located for sliding movement in the housing (10). A projection (34) from each rack element (30,32) engages in a curved slot (35) of the locking element (11). Consequently, rotation of the handle (26) results in a sliding movement of each of the racks (30,32) which causes the locking elements to move between a first position where the locking elements are substantially retracted in the housing (10) and a second position where the locking elements can latchingly engage with a strike.

  • Patent number: 5947535
Abstract: A latch mechanism which includes exterior and interior handle assemblies connected by a bar with a cammed surface such that the latch mechanism can be actuated by pushing, pulling, or turning a handle. Pushing or turning the exterior handle causes the bar to contact a cam follower on a receiver whose edge will rotate a lever to retract a bolt. Also, pulling or turning the interior handle produces the same result. Once the bolt is retracted, and the handle is released, a spring biases the bolt back to the extended position.

  • Patent number: 5944368
Abstract: A door holding device for catching and holding a door in an open position against an adjacent wall is provided. The door has a magnetically attractive door knob mounted thereon. The device comprises a mounting base mounted to the adjacent wall at an elevation substantially equal to the elevation of the door knob. A magnet is secured to the mounting base for coacting with the door knob of the door, wherein upon the door opening from a closed position to a point nearingly adjacent the adjacent wall, the magnet means coacting with the door knob thereby catching the door knob and holding the door in the open position.
