  • Patent number: 10718732
Abstract: Electrochemical sensing of biomolecules eliminates the need for bulky optical instruments required in traditional fluorescence-based sensing assays. Integration of the sensor interface electrodes and active electrochemical detection circuitry on CMOS substrates miniaturizes the sensing platform, enhancing portability for point-of-care applications, while enabling high-throughput, highly-parallel analysis. One embodiment includes a four-by-four active sensor array for multiplexed electrochemical biomolecular detection in a standard 0.25-?m CMOS process. Integrated potentiostats, including control amplifiers and dual-slope ADCs, stimulate the electrochemical cell and detect the current flowing through on-chip gold electrodes at each sensor site resulting from biomolecular reactions occurring on the chip surface. Post-processing techniques for fabricating biologically-compatible surface-electrode arrays in CMOS that can withstand operation in harsh electrochemical environments are described.

  • Patent number: 10680129
Abstract: A solar cell for collecting solar radiation can include a barrier layer such as a dielectric barrier layer and a heterostructure including a first light absorbing layer and at least a second light absorbing layer. A method for forming the solar cell can include forming a sacrificial layer on a support substrate and forming the barrier layer on the sacrificial layer. The barrier layer is formed to have a strain gradient through its thickness. The heterostructure is attached to the barrier layer and the sacrificial layer is removed, thereby separating the barrier layer and the heterostructure from the support substrate. During the removal of the sacrificial layer, the strain gradient causes the barrier layer and heterostructure, to roll, curl, or spiral, thereby resulting in a radially stacked heterostructure that provides a light concentrating optical cavity having multiple light absorbing layers with different band gaps.

  • Patent number: 10648027
Abstract: Techniques for measuring sequences of nucleic acids are provided. Time-based measurements (e.g., forming a histogram) particular to a given sequencing cell can be used to generate a tailored model. The model can include probability functions, each corresponding to different states (e.g., different states of a nanopore). Such probability functions can be fit to a histogram of measurements obtained for that cell. The probability functions can be updated over a sequencing run of the nucleic acid so that drifts in physical properties of the sequencing cell can be compensated. A hidden Markov model can use such probability functions as emission probabilities for determining the most likely nucleotide states over time. For sequencing cells involving a polymerase, a 2-state classification between bound and unbound states of the polymerase can be performed. The bound regions can be further analyzed by a second classifier to distinguish between states corresponding to different bound nucleotides.

Abstract: A solar cell module includes: two solar cells adjacent one another across a space; an elongated light reflector extending over the two solar cells; and a front protector covering front surfaces of the two solar cells and the light reflector. In a plan view of the two solar cells, each of the two solar cells has chamfered corners and a substantially octagonal shape with linear long sides and linear or non-linear short sides, connected alternately. The light reflector, in the plan view, protrudes in the longitudinal direction from an intersection between a first long side facing another long side across the space, among the long sides, and a first short side one end of which is connected to the first long side, among the short sides, to cause light reflected by the uneven structure of the light-reflective film to reach at least one of the two solar cells.
