  • Patent number: 6606502
Abstract: In a cellular telecommunications network, a method and system allowing a Message Center (MC) to receive an indication of the periodic broadcast SMS capability of co-operating Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) when a periodic broadcast SMS is initiated. According to the invention, when a periodic broadcast SMS request is sent from an MC to one MSC for broadcast to the Mobile Stations (MSs), the MSC detects its own capability to handle the periodic broadcast SMS request. Therefore, an indication of the MSC's capability is sent back to the MC. If the MSC accepts to handle the periodic broadcast SMS request on its own, the MSC records the message and periodically broadcasts it to the destination MSs. If not, the MC periodically sends a regular broadcast SMS request along with an instruction for delivery to the MSC, which in turn forwards the SMS body message to the destination MSs.

  • Patent number: 6606492
Abstract: A keyless entry system includes a controller that operates in one of two modes. When an authentication signal is received from a passive signaling device, the controller operates in one mode that permits more convenient access to a user. When an authentication signal is not received from the passive signaling device, the controller requires another mode of operation from a manually operable signaling device. In one example, the manually operable signaling device is a numeric keypad. When an authentication signal from the passive signaling device is received, any single key can be manipulated to gain the desired access controlled by the system. When no authentication signal is present from the passive signaling device, then the controller preferably requires a specific sequence of key activation before access is permitted.

  • Patent number: 6606481
Abstract: A system provides interactive control of broadband services. There are today systems which offer distributive services, for instance analog cable-TV, analog satellites and acting terrestrial TV-networks. A paradigm shift, however, has been initiated in connection with that digital transmissions have started, which make possible a more spectrum efficient transmission. This means, for instance, that a broadband service such as digital transmission of video channels can be developed by making it interactive. One solution can be to use the GSM-system. For example, services which require low capacity in uplink can utilize the SMS-function is GSM. At larger demand of bandwidth GSM's data services can be utilized, which however prevents calls when the telephone is used for interactive communication. The invention solves this problem by interactive traffic between the transmitting and receiving equipment being managed by an interactive center (IC) which is arranged to execute wanted broadband service.

  • Patent number: 6603748
Abstract: The invention provides a power control methodology that increases the performance and the throughput of wireless communication systems. In particular, the invention provides a reverse jamming prevention process that efficiently utilizes power resources in a communication system such as CDMA. The invention advantageously prevents reverse jamming due to link imbalance that results from differences in forward and reverse link coverage. According to the invention, an evaluation set (e-set), which is a super set of the active set of base transceiver stations serving specific users, is determined to prevent the negative effects of reverse jamming. Excessive interference problems in the reverse link, particularly in high-speed wireless systems, are thus avoided.

  • Patent number: 6603753
Abstract: A base station of a code division, multiple access (CDMA) telecommunications system employs scheduling of data transmission signals to corresponding user transceivers in down-link channels of a data network. One or more user transceivers may be in communication with a base station within a cell, and each user may have a minimum data rate requirement. In accordance with the present invention, the scheduling of user data transmission follows the constraints that 1) each base station transmits to user transceivers one at a time, and 2) the base station uses full available power for the down-link channel when transmitting (for data networks only). Given a data network of users, the method of scheduling and data rates may be modeled in accordance with a linear programming problem optimized according to a predefined criterion. In addition, the present method may be employed in a hybrid CDMA/time-share system to reduce power of data channels in communication with user transceivers near the base station.

  • Patent number: 6600911
Abstract: If a local oscillation wave of a frequency approximately half the received signal frequency is input to a low noise amplifier 2, a dc offset voltage caused by the nonlinearity of the amplifier is produced, thus degrading reception sensitivity. This problem is resolved by disposing before the low noise amplifier 2 a filter means, such as a bandpass filter 12, band-elimination filter 13, or high pass filter 14, with characteristics for passing the received wave and suppressing a frequency band at approximately half the received wave frequency, thus preventing a radiation wave at substantially the same frequency as the local oscillation wave from being input to the low noise amplifier 2. A filter circuit 15 is also provided in the low noise amplifier 2 as a means for eliminating a radiation wave input to the low noise amplifier 2.
