  • Patent number: 6283739
Abstract: A steam driven engine having a device for equilibration of propulsion forces in the bearing assemblies produced by the steam drive and equipped with steam and oil separators. The device for equilibrating the propulsion force includes a space disposed between the drive shaft and the surrounding casing, the device being connected on one side to the pressurized steam source and on the other side to a discharge pipe via a throttle channel. The clearance is situated in the casing on both sides of the drive screws and runs along the lateral surface of the drive shaft on the portion thereof opposing the direction of the propulsion force. The steam and oil separators are provided with elements for discharge of the steam and oil.

  • Patent number: 6264452
Abstract: A scroll compressor has a check valve plate assembly with a reinforcing device to increase the strength of the check valve plate. The check valve plate is stamped from a relatively thin steel reed material. Notched areas are provided during stamping to enable the formation of rolled laterally spaced pins which provide an axis along which the check valve plate may pivot. The reinforcing device is in the form of a slot rolled pin, a spiral rolled pin, or a solid pin, fitted within a bore formed by the rolled laterally spaced pins of the check valve plate. The notched areas of the check valve plate are weakened due to the reduction of the local cross sectional area of the laterally spaced pins. Insertion of the reinforcing device significantly reduces the incidence of cracking that occurs at the notched areas of the check valve plate.

  • Patent number: 6210137
Abstract: A scroll fluid machine having a lubrication pump provided between sliding contact surfaces of an orbiting scroll member and a thrust bearing in a casing. The pump has an orbiting member accommodating recess provided in the sliding contact surface of the thrust bearing. An orbiting member projects from the sliding contact surface of the orbiting scroll member into the recess. A slide plate defines a suction chamber and a discharge chamber in the recess. As the orbiting scroll member orbits, the orbiting member orbits in the recess, causing a lubricant contained in the casing to be sucked from a suction passage and delivered to the inside of a boss portion accommodating an orbiting bearing.

  • Patent number: 6179589
Abstract: A scroll compressor includes a discharge valve assembly for blocking compressed refrigerant flow from the discharge chamber through the scroll members. This blocking of flow results in an increased performance for the scroll compressor by minimizing the recompression volume due to the configuration of the value assembly and thus the elimination of reverse rotation at shut down. The discharge valve assembly includes a valve seat, a disc shaped valve member, a retainer, a spring and a stop secured within a recess formed within the scroll member.

  • Patent number: 6113371
Abstract: A scroll compressor has a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll nested with one another within a shell. The orbiting scroll has a base plate with a pair of opposed slots formed therein, and a spiral wrap extending axially from the base plate. The fixed scroll has a base plate and a spiral wrap extending axially from the fixed scroll base plate nested with the spiral wrap of the orbiting scroll. A pair of towers extends axially downwardly from the fixed scroll base plate, each tower having a slot formed therein, diametrically opposed from the slot formed in the other tower. An Oldham coupling has an annular ring with an irregular oval profile which closely follows the outermost radial surface of the spiral wraps as the scroll compressor operates. The Oldham coupling also has an asymmetric shape with respect to any vertical plane bisecting a central axis of the Oldham coupling. A pair of opposed keys extend axially from a first surface of the Oldham coupling slidingly engaging the slots in the towers.

  • Patent number: 6074185
Abstract: A scroll wall tip seal of novel shape allows the scroll wall to be machined with a single, larger concave transition corner radius, where the flank of the scroll wall blends into the scroll base plate. The tip seal covers the entire surface area of the terminal edge of the scroll wall, and has convex radiused sides that match the single radius of the scroll wall's concave transition corner. This allows the scroll wall to be machined with a single tool, all the way round, in a single pass.

  • Patent number: 6050792
Abstract: A scroll is provided which can be operated as either a vacuum pump, a low pressure compressor or a high pressure compressor. The scroll includes a housing, a fixed scroll plate having a continuous fixed involute wrap and an orbiting scroll plate having a continuous orbiting involute wrap. The wraps are of constant width and pitch. The fixed and orbiting scroll plates are mounted in the housing with their involute wraps extending toward each other to define a series of chambers. The fixed involute wrap and orbiting involute wrap each have at least a first section of one height and a second section of a second different height. Additionally, the scroll includes a first port proximate a peripheral edge of the housing, a second port proximate the center of the housing, and at least one mid-port; the mid-port being located proximate the change in height between the first and second sections of the involute wraps.
