  • Patent number: 11828540
Abstract: A closed-cycle thermal energy storage system includes a thermochemical reactor [400] containing a solid thermochemical material, a heat exchanger [402], a fan [406] for creating forced convection of an air/water mixture circulating around the closed cycle, an evaporator/condenser [408], and a pressure control system that includes a pressure sensor [422], a controller [424], and a pump [404]. The pressure control system actively controls the pressure of the air/water mixture to produce a desired temperature difference across the thermochemical reactor [400]. The adjustable pressure control system controls the pressure of the air/water mixture to a first pressure (e.g., between 10 mbar and 1 bar) during a hydration phase and a second pressure (e.g., between 1 bar and 10 bar) during a dehydration phase.

  • Patent number: 11828501
Abstract: Improved heat exchangers according to several embodiments are provided. The heat exchangers provide improved heat transfer for air flow in wet and dry operating conditions, while minimizing pressure drop across the heat exchanger in some applications. According to one embodiment, an improved heat exchanger includes a plurality of metal foam fins between adjacent heat exchange conduits, the heat exchange conduits being arranged parallel to each other to define parallel flow paths between an inlet header and an outlet header. The metal foam fins occupy a cross-flow region between adjacent conduits, the fins having a fixed angular orientation or being rotatable in unison to vary the thermal capacitance of the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 11828548
Abstract: The present invention discloses a two-phase immersion-cooling micro-grooved boiler, which is mainly used for heat dissipation of heat generating objects. The boiler comprises a heat transfer member and a capillary layer positioned in tight contact with a surface of the heat transfer member. The capillary layer has an array of micro-grooves which divides the capillary layer into a plurality of heat dissipating units. The bottom surface of the micro-grooves is coated with a thermal resistance layer. While the boiler operates, the working liquid can flow into the heat dissipating units from the sidewall of the micro-grooves without being blocked from contact with the heat transfer member by boiling-triggered bubbles. As a result, dry-out of the heat transfer member can be avoided, thereby improving the heat exchange efficiency of the boiler and the flow-back rate of the working fluid.

  • Patent number: 11821696
Abstract: A header for a heat exchanger and method for cleaning a heat exchanger in a loop without disconnecting loop components is provided. The header is in flow communication with the heat exchanger for distributing fluid through a plurality of adjacent channels. The header is connected between a main heat exchanger inlet nozzle and a channel flow distributor. A filter element is disposed within the header between the nozzle and channel flow distributor. Under normal operation, the filter element removes particulates and fouling material from the main flow stream before it enters the heat exchanger channels. During the cleaning process, fluid is injected on or through the filter element to remove particulates and fouling material through at least one outlet port. The header arrangement allows the filter element to be ‘cleaned in place’ without draining the system and disconnecting the heat exchanger or other components from the flow loop.
