  • Patent number: 5613390
Abstract: In a corner reduction device for reducing side corners of a slab with corner rolls, a pair of upper and lower corner rolls are mounted inside a unitary unit frame, and a corner roll unit housing the unitary frame which is movable in the direction of width and vertical direction of the material is formed. Vertical position of the corner roll unit is controlled by a lifting power control cylinder through a push rod and position in direction of material width is controlled by a reduction cylinder. Driving of cylinder servo valves is controlled in accordance with position set values set by position setters, load set values set by load setters, and feedback signals from position sensors, thereby controlling the corner roll positions to fixed lateral and vertical positions. The driving of the servo valves is corrected according to values detected by cylinder pressure sensors, to evenly reduce the right and left corners of the material.

  • Patent number: 5611233
Abstract: Transmission unit for driving two parallel shafts, at least one shaft being movable at right angles to its lengthwise direction, for example for a rolling mill (1). In this case each shaft (8, 11) is provided with a crown wheel (14, 15) which meshes with a cylindrical pinion (16), each pinion having a shaft (17) of which the axis intersects or crosses the axis of the shaft belonging to the crown wheel at right angles, and the rotations of the pinions being interconnected with a fixed transmission ratio. The cylindrical pinions can be fitted on one common shaft which can lie in the plane through the axes of the two shafts or at a fixed distance parallel to said plane, independent of the movement of one of the shafts or both shafts. Two pinions can be combined to form one pinion.

  • Patent number: 5606885
Abstract: A device for guiding away a cold-rolled tube from a cold pilger rolling mill that at least one of intermittently feeds and rotates the tube. The device including a constant-speed driver for drawing the tube from the rolling mill. The driver is arranged downstream of the rolling mill so that there is a buffer zone between the driver and the rolling mill. Additionally, an apparatus is arranged in the buffer zone for diverting the tube out of a roll direction by restrictively guiding the tube so that the tube describes a roughly S-shaped path in the buffer zone whereby cyclically non-uniform rolling speed of the rolling mill is compensated for.

  • Patent number: 5600987
Abstract: A rolling mill has a rolling stand having two roll standards for supporting rolls having roll pins at opposite ends of each roll with bearings interposed between the standards and the pins. A chock (10) surrounds each bearing and is releasably secured within a standard. A housing (12) is detachably secured on an outer side of the chock. The housing carries stop elements (14) mounted for movement in a direction parallel to the axis (13--13) of the roll. A first hydraulic jack (16) advances the stop elements toward a midplane (33--33) of the roll and into abutment with the roll, thereby to position the housing correctly along the roll axis. A plurality of clamping elements (21) is spaced apart about an endwise outer part (34) of the roll pin (8). A second hydraulic jack (25) moves the clamping elements into clamping engagement with the outer section (34) of the roll pin (8).

  • Patent number: 5596899
Abstract: A two-part housing assembly for a cluster mill. The housing assembly has substantially the same size, form and structure as a monobloc housing, but is divided along a horizontal plane located at or close to its horizontal center line into upper and lower mill housings each provided with a roll cavity and a roll cluster therein. The gap between the work rolls of the roll clusters is adjusted by symmetrical equal and opposite movement of the upper and lower mill housings achieved by four identical screws, one located in each corner of the mill housing assembly. Each screw has two threaded portions of opposite hand, one threaded portion engaging a threaded nut of opposite hand non-rotatively mounted in a recess in the upper mill housing and the other threaded screw portion engaging a threaded nut of appropriate hand non-rotatively mounted in a recess in the lower mill housing. Each screw supports the upper and lower mill housings.

  • Patent number: 5592845
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel method and apparatus for producing cold finished bar flats with improved bright surface condition. The bar flats are produced by a rolled method in a continuous economical process. A strip is fed to a shaving apparatus for removing burrs formed during slitting. Cold finishing rollers perform cold reduction of the strip to a predetermined thickness. Edge conditioning rollers smooth the edges of the strip and size the strip to a predetermined width. Preferably, the edge conditioning rollers alternate with the cold reduction rollers.

  • Patent number: 5592846
Abstract: Herein disclosed is an endless hot rolling method using a hot strip mill substantially composed of a roughing mill and a finishing mill having a roll bender and a roll shifter to continuously roll sequentially joined different rolling materials. The method comprises the steps of: calculating a roll shift range in an axial direction for each rolling material so as to provide a desired crown; determining a rolling sequence so as to obtain a common roll shift range for each pair of neighboring rolling materials; connecting a preceding material at the tail end thereof to the head end of the succeeding material, between the roughing mill and the finishing mill; shifting the rolls during transition from the preceding material to the succeeding material so that the roll position corresponding to the joint of the two materials is within a common roll shift range for the materials; and changing the roll bending load in accordance with the roll shift pattern so as to achieve the desired crown of each material.

  • Patent number: 5590557
Abstract: A roll stand for a pair of work rolls includes a housing with two side walls arranged on a common base plate. A cube-shaped receiving space which is open toward the top and toward two sides and is provided with guide surfaces for an insertable roll cassette is formed between the side walls. The insertable roll cassette of the roll stand includes two side plates which extend parallel to each other and are spaced at a distance from each other. The outer sides of the side plates are guided by the guide surfaces of the side walls. The side plates form guide means for two pairs of chocks which receive the work rolls with the bearings of the rolls. A pair each of interacting chocks are connected by means of adjusting spindles which absorb rolling forces, wherein the distance between chocks is adjustable so as to produce pre-adjustable passes. The adjusting spindles include adjusting collars and the side plates have adjusting pieces which are compatible with the adjusting collars.

  • Patent number: 5572892
Abstract: In a production method for silicon steel hot rolled sheets by subjecting a slab of silicon steel to a rough hot rolling through high-temperature heating and then subjecting to a finish hot rolling, rolling at the first stand in the finish hot rolling is carried out so that a relation of thickness at entrance side of the stand t.sub.F1 (mm), thickness at delivery side thereof t.sub.F2 (mm), surface temperature of steel sheet at gripping T.sub.F0 (.degree. C.) and temperature at the depth of (t.sub.F1 -t.sub.F2)/2 (mm) from the surface of the steel sheet at gripping T.sub.F1 satisfies the following equation:(T.sub.F1 -T.sub.F0)/{(t.sub.F1 -t.sub.F2)/2}.ltoreq.10+t.sub.F1 /10 (.degree.C./mm).Thus, surface defect and surface cracks can be prevented in the hot rolling to provide silicon steel sheets having excellent surface properties.
