Patent number: 6144408Abstract: An electronic imaging device employs black pattern correction for dark current in a charge transfer image sensor. The sensor is composed of image pixels having a characteristic black pattern of dark current in which the amplitude of the dark current for each pixel is dependent upon exposure time. A reference dark frame exposure is captured from the image sensor in the absence of light and dark frame pixel values are obtained. An exposure section regulates the exposure time of image light upon the image sensor and provides a corresponding plurality of image frame exposures; the image sensor thus generates a corresponding plurality of image frames each comprised of image frame pixel values. A processor then generates a correction factor from the dark frame pixel values and applies the correction factor to the image frame pixel values for the plurality of image frames to obtain corrected image frame pixel values that are modified for the black pattern.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1997Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Steven D. Patent number: 6139197Abstract: A method and system are provided for delivering video from a server to a client over a communication medium with a limited bandwidth. An initial image quality that allows the video to be displayed in real time at the client is determined based on a predetermined frame rate and the limited bandwidth. Video having the initial image quality is transmitted to the client. The client sends to the server a snapshot request that specifies both an image in the video and a destination. In response to the request, the server generates a digital representation of the image that has a higher quality than the initial image quality. The server transmits the snapshot to the specified destination. The specified destination may be a destination other than the client, such as an image processing facility, thereby allowing the client to log off without waiting for delivery of the snapshot.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1997Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: Seeitfirst.comInventor: Jerry J. Patent number: 6005600Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for enabling a user to view a moving picture with synchronized audio using a workstation connected to a digital network. The user may change both speed and direction, as well as jump between arbitrary points in the movie being played. According to the present invention, digitized movie data may be accessed from different sources (e.g., network servers, local disks). These sources vary in speed and response time as a result of their capabilities (e.g., limited I/O bandwidth) and transient events (e.g., resource contention). The present invention adapts to these varying conditions in order to maintain a stable output.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1996Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Silcon Graphics, Inc.Inventor: Ralph D. Patent number: 5956076Abstract: A network which is suitable for the distribution of signals such as video and audio is disclosed. A second network is overlaid on an existing LAN to provide audio and video functionality, without further loading the capacity of the LAN. Switching of the video and audio signals is provided by a switchbox, controllable from the LAN via the server. The second network may be a simple UTP arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1996Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Megavision International Pty. Ltd.Inventor: Rudie Joseph Hoess

Patent number: 5856852Abstract: A method for providing recording-reservation data to a VCR using a TV, and the TV and VCR adapted to the method are proposed, in which broadcasting signals are received via a receiving section of the TV, and teletext data consisting of plural informations is detected from the received broadcasting signal via a detecting section of the TV. The detected teletext data is stored in a memory of the TV by a controlling section of the TV, and at least one information required for recording reservation of the VCR in the stored teletext data is transmitted to the VCR. A controlling section of the VCR stores transmitted at least one information in a memory of the VCR as the recording reservation information.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1996Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventor: Chung Hyoea Huh

Patent number: 5844619Abstract: A system and method for eliminating flicker in an interlaced video-display image using an input-video processor, a feature-video processor, a frame buffer, an RGB-output processor, an output-video processor, a control processor, and a synchronized-clock doubler. An input video signal is processed as processed component video information and written to a video memory at a horizontal-scan rate and a vertical-scan rate. Based on the input video signal, a vertical-scan synchronization pulse and a horizontal-scan synchronization pulse are generated and then harmonically doubled. The processed component video information is read from the video memory, responsive to the harmonically doubled synchronization pulses, at a harmonically doubled horizontal-scan rate and a harmonically doubled vertical-scan rate, reading in an interlaced format, with each frame being contiguously read twice in a proper odd-even order as when normally read to generate four fields of video information per frame which may be interlaced.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1996Date of Patent: December 1, 1998Assignee: Magma, Inc.Inventor: Jimmie D. Patent number: 5844624Abstract: A television receiver includes a picture-display-region discriminating means for discriminating whether or not any picture is displayed on a specific region on a screen of the television receiver, by utilizing a luminance signal of a composite video signal which is received by the television receiver and corresponds to the specific region. A signal in a frequency band which is unnecessary for the video signal is eliminated, and then it is discriminated whether or not any picture is displayed on the specific region, by utilizing the luminance signal and a carrier chrominance signal contained in the video signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1996Date of Patent: December 1, 1998Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Kenzo Nakai, Yukihiko Yamamoto

Patent number: 5841468Abstract: A system and method for isolating data messages received from subscribers in a CATV system are disclosed. The system includes a spectrum parallel router which receives data messages in the return spectrum of a service line at a service site. A switch at the service site directs data messages to service lines coupled to the site which have destination addresses corresponding to one of the service lines. Data messages not having a destination address corresponding to one of the service lines are provided to a transmitter for transmission to the next higher level of the CATV network over a return cable. Each service site has its own return cable which may be coupled to a distribution hub or a headend. At the distribution hub and headend, a switch is provided for each return cable and the switches are coupled to one another. At a distribution hub, data messages having a destination address corresponding to one of the other switches at the hub are routed to the corresponding switch.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1996Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Convergence. Patent number: 5835134Abstract: In a computer system, a system video adapter and an add-on video adapter generate video signals according to different dimensional characteristics. The dimensional characteristics of the system adapter are calibrated by a calibration unit so that the video signals can simply be merged. The calibration unit comprises a comparator for detecting pixel signals of calibration lines generated by the system adapter at predetermined horizontal and vertical positions of a display device. The comparator, in response to detecting the pixel signals exceeding a predetermined reference signal, cause a latch to store counts of a counter. The counts represent the horizontal and vertical positions of the detected signals. The counts are presented to the add-on video adapter as calibration parameters. The add-on video adapter can use the calibration parameters to generate video signals which can be directly merged with the video signals of the system video adapter.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1995Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventor: Charles P.
