Abstract: An electronic starting motor control having low voltage protection. The starting motor has a solenoid coil which when energized causes solenoid contacts to be closed to energize the motor and to move a pinion into mesh with the ring gear of an engine to be cranked. A plurality of parallel connected field effect transistors connect and disconnect the solenoid coil to and from system direct voltage. When system voltage is below a predetermined value the field effect transistors are turned off and are maintained turned off until a start switch is opened. The system will not turn off the field effect transistors when short term voltages occur that go below the predetermined value. Various other circuits are disclosed for turning the field effect transistors on and off.
Abstract: A call registering and indicating device includes a keyboard wherein calls for desired floors of destination can be entered without pressing a register key after a correct input or pressing a correction key after an incorrect call input. A call input is possible only if a proximity switch connected with the call input keyboard is activated. On deactivation of the proximity switch, a delay circuit causes the call to be automatically registered. An erroneously entered call is automatically cancelled by means of a second control circuit, where simultaneouly a second indicating element lights up in the form of a double question mark. A third indicating element, signaling the selected elevator, located on the same indicating panel, as well as a fourth and fifth indicating element, signaling the position of the selected elevator in relation to the actuated keyboard, are connected with a group control circuit by way of further control circuits.
Abstract: An electronic control for an electric engine starter that includes a cranking motor and a solenoid for moving a pinion into mesh with an engine ring gear and for operating solenoid contacts. If end tooth abutment occurs between the pinion and ring gear to block meshing of the pinion with the ring gear the solenoid contacts do not close and this is sensed by an electronic circuit connected to the solenoid contacts and to a start switch. When pinion block occurs the electronic circuit develops a signal which causes the solenoid to be deenergized and to be maintained deenergized until the start switch is opened. The electronic circuit includes means for preventing solenoid contact chatter by locking out energization of the solenoid coil if the solenoid contacts open after being closed due to, for example, low voltage.
Abstract: A system for air conditioning and generating electrical power including a fuel-fired internal combustion engine, an electrical motor/generator, and a vapor compressor/expander all interconnected. The vapor compressor/expander driven by the engine operates in one mode with an evaporator and a condenser in a generally conventional refrigeration cycle. In an alternative mode, the vapor compressor/expander is operated in reverse by refrigerant boiled in the evaporator by the rejected heat of the engine and condensed in the condenser and contributes mechanical power to that of the engine to drive the motor/generator. The motor/generator can be supplied external electrical energy to operate as a motor to drive the compressor/expander during periods of non-operation of the engine.

Abstract: An electronic starting motor control system for electric starting apparatus of a type that has a solenoid including a solenoid coil. Energization of the solenoid coil causes solenoid contacts to close and causes a pinion to be shifted into mesh with the ring gear of an engine to be cranked. The current supply to the solenoid coil is controlled by a plurality of parallel connected field effect transistors that are turned on and off. The system has a fail safe circuit which operates to cause the wire bonds of the field effect transistors to open in the event that a field effect transistor fails by shorting. The system has an overvoltage protection circuit which during an overvoltage condition shuts off the supply of voltage to the gates of the transistors and shuts off the voltage supply to a plurality of control circuits that are coupled to the gates of the transistors.

Abstract: A coaxial engine starter comprising a solenoid switch assembly including a non-magnetic sleeve disposed side by side relative to the iron-system bushing for guiding the plunger in a moving space from its return position to the position in which the plunger abuts against the front magnetic path section. An end face of the rear magnetic path section on the side of the front magnetic path section is an outwardly facing slope surface. The direction of twist of the helical spline formed on the output rotary shaft is opposite to the direction of wind of the return coil spring.

Abstract: A pinion stopper arrangement for a starter motor comprises a motor output shaft having a circumferential projection and a coaxial pinion shaft rotatably supported on the output shaft. Two shafts are connected by an over-running clutch having a clutch outer member connected to the output shaft by helical splines and a clutch inner member directly connected to the pinion shaft. An elastic stopper ring is snap fitted between the clutch outer member and the circumferential projection on the output shaft, so that the elastic stopper ring, in cooperation with the circumferential projection on said output shaft, restricts the axial movement of the over-running clutch and the pinion gear relative to the output shaft.
Abstract: A booster unit for diesel electric locomotive having a frame-mounted diesel engine, a main traction generator and a series of traction motors connected to said generators is disclosed. It is comprised of a gas turbine mounted on the frame adjacent to the diesel engine, a high speed alternator connected directly with the turbine and a series of rectifiers connected at the output of the high speed alternator. The alternator and rectifiers form a high speed electric generator. A load control means connected at the output of the alternator is provided for controlling the output power thereof. The high speed generator is connected in parallel with the main traction generator such that the traction motors can be supplied with extra electrical power when required.
Abstract: An engine starter comprises a hollow armature rotary shaft having a plurality of cam surfaces of an over-running clutch mechanism and having at one end a reduced-diameter portion on which a sleeve member is press fit and at the other end a stopper. The sleeve member has a rolled portion on its outer circumference on which an armature core is secured by press fit so that the armature core is firmly held by the sleeve member and the stopper on the armature rotary shaft. The armature rotary shaft may have a polygonal cross-sectional outer configuration so that the armature core can be firmly press-fit onto polygonal armature rotary shaft. A method for concurrently brazing and magnetically annealing the armature core comprises heating the armature assembly between 780.degree. C. and 850.degree. C.
Abstract: An elevator self-diagnostic system monitors the operative status of various elevator components and upon sensing an error initiates action to bring the elevator car to a safe operating state. The system then logs the error. The diagnostic system then analyzes the error and the conditions prevailing at the time the error occurred and, if necessary, a corrective action is then taken to resolve the error. This allows the elevator system to be brought back into service more quickly than would otherwise be possible. Specifically, a number of tests are serially performed on various elevator components, such as the motor drive, the position sensors, etc. When an error, or fault, arises in a system component, a selt-diagnostic system logs a preselected error level which has been assigned to the particular fault. A preselected action is then taken according to the particular error.
Abstract: A starting apparatus includes an engine for driving a device such as a compressor, a starting motor by which the engine is brought into operation and a rectifier supplying a high DC voltage to the starting engine during operation thereof and supplying a low DC voltage to one or more electric components in the device while the starting motor is not in use. Thus, excess DC is prevented from being supplied to one or more components which operate under a low DC voltage, thereby preventing damage thereto.
Abstract: A method for increasing the transportation capacity of elevators in a building involving dividing the elevators (2-7) into two or more groups, each comprising one or more elevators, in such manner that in certain loading situations the groups will temporarily serve different zones (11, 12) of the building (1). Upward peak traffic conditions are detected and the boundaries between zones (11, 12) are determined and maintained by the steps which include:(a) detecting by a peak traffic condition, mainly on the basis of elevator loading time and/or the number of people arriving in an elevator lobby (9) of the building (1).(b) calculating an initial optimal zone boundary value mainly on the basis of traffic statistics and existing transportation capacity.(c) effecting transition of elevator operation to sub-zoning during upward peak traffic.

Abstract: A field coil is divided into the plural number, and each of these field coils is connected in parallel in relation to a battery at the time of engine starting, and in series during the generation of the electric current after engine starting, so that sufficient field electromotive force can be maintained in the event of a battery voltage drop during engine starting, and also a necessary, sufficient field electromotive force can be produced with little current at the time of voltage recovery during generator operation. Consequently, the amount of copper to be used for the field coils and a winding space can be decreased; therefore the present invention is effective to provide a light-weight, small and unexpensive engine starting and charging device.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for improving the command performance of distance controlled positioning drives, as well as the positioning performance in the region of the destination, responds to different interferences, such as changing load and friction conditions, which act from travel to travel on the positioning drive. A distance control is periodically optimized to a constant set of standardized operating parameters and the position errors caused by interferences are eliminated during every travel. The control is a cascade control with fourfold forward correction by direct bias of the generated desired values of the jerk, the acceleration, and the velocity. A distinction is made between predictable deterministic interferences and not predictable stochastic interferences. Deterministic interferences are detected quantitatively by a start up test during the first phase of jerk in a measuring means.
Abstract: A speed trimming integrated drive generator 18 includes a differential 24 having inputs coupled to a prime mover 20 and to a wild frequency generator 48, the output thereof being coupled to a main generator 14. In order to control main generator speed, and thus the frequency of the power generated by the main generator 14, resistive load management for the wild frequency generator 48 is utilized. Particularly, a generator control unit 58, responsive to the main generator frequency, selectively couples resistive loads 56 to an output 52 of the wild frequency generator 48 to provide trimming power. Fine tuning of the trimming power is provided by controlling the output voltage from the wild frequency generator 48 responsive to sensed frequency.
Abstract: An exhaust energy recovery apparatus for an engine has an induction generator drivable by exhaust gases emitted from the engine, and an induction motor drivable by electric power generated by the induction generator. The frequency of an exciting current supplied to the induction generator and the load being the induction motor are controlled so that the operation efficiency of the turbine will be maximized.
Abstract: A starter includes a movable pinion cylinder mounted on a rotary output shaft so that the movable pinion cylinder is slidable on the rotary output shaft a by predetermined distance together with an overrunning clutch. The movable pinion cylinder has the front end portion formed into a pinion which is engaged with an engine ring gear, and the rear end portion formed into a clutch inner forming a part of the overrunning clutch. The starter further includes a cylindrical cap connected to the front end of the rotary output shaft to cover the front end portion of the rotary output shaft, a protrusion extended from the center of the end face of the cap toward the end face of the rotary output shaft, the protrusion having an air hole extended along the axial line thereof, and a hole formed in the end face of the rotary output shaft at the center to receive the protrusion.
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydraulic elevator in which the load and/or the oil temperature are detected under the running condition of a cage of the hydraulic elevator and a proper value of the deceleration delay time corresponding to this running condition is obtained to thereby control the flow of pressure-oil on the basis of the proper value of the deceleration delay time. Various values of the deceleration delay time are stored in advance in the form of table with respect to various values of load and oil temperature.
