Patent number: 5324114Abstract: A device for monitoring the temperature and pressure of a liquid coolant in a cooling system having a sealant which seals around a needle from a pressure or temperature probe and re-seals itself upon removal of the needle. The sealant is fitted within an axial bore within the monitoring device. The needles of the pressure and temperature probes puncture the sealant and are adapted to be in communication with the cooling system. The monitoring device further includes a pressure relief probe for rapid decrease of the cooling system pressure. The invention may be for testing a closed pressurized system using the pressure probe with a valve or other orifice for pressurizing the system.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1992Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: Waekon Industries, Inc.Inventor: Peter Vinci

Patent number: 5323729Abstract: A crush indicating device is disclosed which is designed to be attached to an object or a container for the purpose of indicating whether the object or container subsequently is subjected to excessive force, acceleration or shock. The indicator device has a contrasting agent reservoir filled with a contrasting agent, an absorbing wick and a compressible wall. The compressible wall extends between the wick and the reservoir, holding them in a fixed apart relationship while the wall is uncompressed. Application of force to the device compresses the wall and brings the wick into contact with the reservoir. The wick absorbs contrasting agent from the reservoir, resulting in a marked visible change in the wick which signifies that excessive force has been applied to the device. A base is located at one end of the wall, supporting the reservoir and providing means to attach the device to an object or container. A transparent cover sheet is located at the opposite end of the wall.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1993Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: Media Recovery, Inc.Inventor: Ulyss R. Rubey

Patent number: 5317987Abstract: An indicator for attachment to objects to display elapsed times and/or changes of state, in which a visible display is brought about by color change of the indicator upon reaction of chemical substances and with destruction of a barrier preliminarily separating the chemical substances. The barrier is a separating or covering layer that can be penetrated by selective pitting by a chemical substance preliminarily enclosed by the barrier. An embodiment of the invention includes selective pitting of the barrier member with a resulting visible change of the indicator. Another embodiment of the invention includes initial separation of two chemical substances that can react with one another with visible change, of which at least one reacts chemically with the barrier for the latter's penetration.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Badische Tabakmanufaktur Roth-Handle GmbHInventors: Hubert Muller, Bruno Langenfeld

Patent number: 5313909Abstract: The invention provides novel, improved wear indicating brush filaments and novel, improved coextrusion process for their manufacture. Essentially, the filaments of the present invention are coextruded filaments which include a longitudinal surface providing a boundary about the cross-sectional area of the filament and the longitudinal surface and/or the cross-sectional area presents a two colored region adapted to provide a visual signal indicative of wear in response to filament use. The filaments can be natural or synthetic materials. In filaments of the present invention, the colored region provides an initial color or color intensity viewable to the user. As wear is produced by continuing use of the filaments, the intensity of the colored region changes to a point which signals the user that the filament no longer provides the requisite performance characteristics for effectively performing its assigned function.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1992Date of Patent: May 24, 1994Assignee: Gillette Canada Inc.Inventors: Mingchih M. Patent number: 5311834Abstract: A numerical device (10) for recording and display of individual numbers, symbols and other indicia. The display can incorporate an infinite number of indicia in rows, columns and the like to represent thousands, hundreds, tens, and single digits and the like. The normal length of each column would be up to a maximum of ten numbers. The numerals are encapsulated in a plastic containment housing (12) having chambers which contain a fluid. By depressing a particular number at a particular location, the fluid is displaced from that location and the contrasting color at the rear of the liquid containment area becomes visible after the opaque liquid has been displaced from that particular location. Each column of numbers, e.g., tens, hundreds etc. would be separately contained on, or adjacent to, one common fluid access compartment. Adjacent numeral chambers are joined by a connecting tube (32). The device (10) would normally be overcovered with an overlay membrane-(54) of paper or the like.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1991Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Inventor: Gregory E. Ross
