Patent number: 4804430Abstract: Method and apparatus for the metallization of support members, such as paper sheeting and other cellulosic products. A metallic film is transferred to a preheated paper support from a plastic sheet carrier and adhered to the paper by a thermoplastic material. The carrier is typically of stabilized plastic with a releasably adhered film of metal. Separate metallic films may be transferred simultaneously from opposite sides of a preheated plastic sheet carrier to separate, preheated paper supports. Pressure is applied to the composite which is cooled, desirably by chilling, and the carrier stripped away to leave the desired metallic layer on the receiving surface of the paper support. This transfer procedure overcomes the objections associated with metal foil laminates and is particularly suitable for metallizing support members, like paper, which are difficult to metallize directly because they release significant amounts of vapor during conventional vacuum metallization.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1984Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard G. Patent number: 4795124Abstract: An article extracting means which is mounted on a carriage means which in turn is slidably mounted on the side of an article forming machine having two members movable relative to one another to form an article between them. A pivoted extractor arm in mounted on the carriage means to pivot in a vertical plane toward and away from the forming machine. An upper portion of the extractor arm carries an independently pivoted arm which may move in the same vertical plane as the extractor arm between at least two 180 degree opposed positions related to positioning gripping members carried thereby between an article gripping and an article release positions. The gripping members feature a construction wherein opposing jaw members are moved in a parallel direction toward and away from one another. Patent number: 4794028Abstract: A method of continuously producing an elongated strip-like fastener member is disclosed which facilitates highly efficient formation of the fastener member with a great multiplicity of resiliently flexible hook-like projections. The method comprises the formation of an extrusion of plastic material which is shaped between a pair of coacting first and second rollers. Notably, one of the rollers defines a plurality of hook-forming cavities about its periphery within which the hook projections of the fastener member are formed. The forming roller is suitably cooled so as to effect substantial reduction in the temperature of the molten plastic extrusion from which the fastener member is formed. In this manner, the fastener member may be removed or stripped from the forming roller without opening of the hook-forming cavities, thus promoting highly efficient formation of the fastener member without resort to unduly complex equipment or processes.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1986Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 4793786Abstract: A reconstituted banana product, which is formed primarily of banana puree with the addition of ice cream ingredients, is extruded by a horizontal extruder. As the extrudate stream is deposited on a moving product plate of a conveyor, which moves in the same direction as the extrudate stream, the extruder is moved transversely of the direction of movement of the extrudate stream and conveyor. After a product of the desired length is deposited on a product plate, a hot wire cutoff device slices the extrudate stream into separate products which by virtue of the transverse movement, are arcuate. In order to simulate the appearance of banana seeds, an auxiliary nozzle tube, within and centered in the main nozzle of the extruder, extrudes an extrudate of a darker color. The auxiliary nozzle tube has a closed end and slots extending from the closed end. Baffles at the base of the slots deflect the extrucate from the main extruder as the extrudate of darker color is extruded.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1986Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Perfect Products, Inc.Inventors: Eugene Greenhouse, Richard E. Patent number: 4781565Abstract: Apparatus for producing low cost, high purity solar grade Si wherein a reduction reaction, preferably the reduction of SiF.sub.4, by an alkali metal (Na preferred) is carried out by jetting a spray of reactants into a reaction chamber at a rate and temperature which causes the reaction to take place far enough away from the entry region to avoid plugging of reactants at the entry region and wherein separation in the melt is carried out continuously from the reaction and the Si can be cast directly from the melt. The melt separation is provided by openings in the reaction chamber wall between about 2 to about 3.5 millimeters in width. The Si is retained within the reaction chamber due to its surface tension.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1986Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: SRI InternationalInventor: Angel Sanjurjo

Patent number: 4781568Abstract: Molds are mounted on a front platen and a moving platen. A plurality of ball screws are mounted between the front platen and the rear platen at equal distances from centers of the molds and at predetermined angular intervals. Ball nuts threadedly engaged with the plurality of ball screws, respectively, are mounted on the moving platen. A servo motor drives to move the moving platen in the axial direction of the ball screws through the ball screws and the ball nuts. A mold clamping force is generated by a stress occurring in the ball screws when the molds are closed.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1986Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Fanuc Ltd.Inventor: Yoshiharu Inaba

Patent number: 4780072Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for fabricating an internally coated pipeline for transporting corrosive and/or erosive materials in which the pipe sections are joined by welding. The pipe sections are first internally pre-coated to the exclusion of a length at each end that is affected by the heat of welding the sections together. After the weld has been made between adjacent pipe sections, an expansible and retractable mold is positioned in the area of the weld joint to define an injection cavity between the pre-coating ends. A coating material is injected into the cavity. The mold can then be retracted and moved to another weld joint where the process is repeated.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1985Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Inventor: Robert W. Burnette

Patent number: 4778364Abstract: In the manufacture of a foamed confection such as foamed chocolate, a confection in liquid form is mixed with carbon dioxide under pressure. The mixture is discharged from the depositor through annular outlet orifices which are opened and closed in turn by associated valves so that at any one time some of the orifices are discharging the mixture, and the number of orifices which are closed does not vary. Each annular orifice has a length which is not greater than its diameter. Each valve has an annular valve seat and a valve member movable into and out of engagement with the valve seat.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1986Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: Cadbury LimitedInventor: Brian T. Patent number: 4778370Abstract: A changing device for the screw cylinder of an injection molding machine. The screw of the screw cylinder is in releasable coupling connection with a drive unit of the machine. For releasing and uncoupling the coupling connection, the screw cylinder including screw can be displaced relative to the injection molding machine essentially transversely of the longitudinal direction of the screw cylinder. Two hydraulic cylinders are arranged spaced apart next to each other symmetrically and parallel to the longitudinal center plane of the injection molding machine. The two cylinders are connected to each other by means of a transverse member. A free space extending forwardly from the drive unit is defined by the two hydraulic cylinders and the transverse members. The free space forms an alignment seat which is open towards the front and towards the back and a longitudinal side. In the coupled position, the screw cylinder is fixable and lockable to the drive unit in this alignment seat.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1987Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: Battenfeld Kunststoffmaschinen Ges. m.b.H.Inventors: Friedrich Heindl, Rudolf Reiser, Harald Bleier
